Dungeons

Should we replace the link to Dungeons with a link to Copy Abilities? I cannot remember any dungeons in the Kirby series and the Copy Abilities seem more integral to the games to me. - Edofenrir 21:10, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

good catch.. I just made minor tweaks to what we have at ZW. Axiomist

Official names

I played CS and I remember pretty much of it, the problem is, I would add all stuff I know, but I cant remember any official name.... SHould I create them under a cconjectural name?? The Tuck

I suppose that could work, you could port over ZW's conjectural title template. Aren't you in skype too? We could probably use your SMW knowledge of templates and policies to help here. Axiomist 16:45, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Affiliates banner

Perhaps we can have one in the Main Page, I really like ZW's one. The one with circles and the page names. --Tucayo 04:35, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I think that would be great! We should ask around to see who's willing to affiliate from just the site owners we personally know until after our official launch. Which will be after Valentine's Day sometime. ;) Axiomist 08:40, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Coming soon?

Whats coming soon? More articles? On an unrelated note, I will create the special power ups articles tomorrow, exams are over :D --Tucayo 02:54, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

I would say pretty much everything. Of course, it would be wise to set up all the important stuff up [Ex: Featured Content, which I think it nearly done], and such important pages could be listed. Austin (NIWA Operative) 02:59, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Whoops

Just made my account, and realised I wanted to be called LuKirbio. (I hate it when that happens!) Can an admin please fix. I'll be a frequent user, as I have all DS kirby games and the First NES one. LuKirbio 18:37, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Fraid not. We don't have the Rename User extension, yet. If you'll wait it out for a bit, though, I'll request that we install it._Neo(U) (T) (C)(Home) 20:39, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Cool name choice, as soon as we get it installed, you get to be our test run :P Thanks for joining and editing! Axiomist 05:55, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Ball

I tried creating the article for the copy ability and Kirby's form in Canvas Curse, which had its links at "ball". However, when I tried creating it, this message showed up: The title "Ball" has been banned from creation. It matches the following blacklist entry: [Bb][Aa4][Ll1][Ll1]. What is that blacklist entry and should the links be moved so that the article can be created? ナエトル A or Turtwig A My talk and my contributions 22:12, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Whoops. The blacklist is used to prevent people from creating obscene articles and such. Ball is blocked from creation because it's one of those things. Just hold on a bit and we'll get an admin to remove it from the blacklist so the page can be made :)_Neo(U) (T) (C)(Home) 22:24, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
I can see why. But what about when it is created? Wouldn't it be prone to vandalism? ナエトル A or Turtwig A My talk and my contributions 23:54, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
That doesn't matter. Everything here can be exposed to vandalism if it's not protected. If a vandal comes along, I, or another staff member will deal with him/her. Austin (NIWA Operative) 00:20, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Pictures

Can't upload them. Get message saying "This file has no extention (like jpg.)" I've tried the same file as JPG, jpeg and png, what's wrong? LuKirbio 17:25, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Could you paste exactly what your are trying in here? Axiomist 17:36, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Paste? You mean with photobucket or something? I'm 11, can't go on that. LuKirbio 17:37, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
I mean, thisimage.png or whatever it is your are trying to add. Axiomist 17:43, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

*SNAPS FINGERS* Oh no big mistake! Forgot to add .png to the new location URL. Sorry. LuKirbio 18:13, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

.png is used for images that have transparency and are small, .jpg is for photos, and so on... I'll ask Steve to create the page defining which is best for what type of image. But they aren't all the same, bc the wrong file type could blur the images. Axiomist 18:22, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Already uploaded, and it requires transparency done to it, but I can't do that. Can someone do it for me. Just need the words, Kirby and the cake. It's at File:YumCake.png thanks. LuKirbio 18:25, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Super Smash Bros. series

Should the games in the Super Smash Bros. series get articles? They are related to the Kirby series; Kirby is in all three while Meta Knight and King Dedede are in SSBB. If so, should the modes get articles? Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 02:21, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Smash content should be minimized, bc a spill over is likely, so only the Kirby related stuff in a single article should suffice.
  • Introduction
    • Games info
  • Kirby Characters in Smash Bros Games
    • Kirby-games with him in it, descriptions of his moves etc..
  • King Dedede
  • Same deal with Kirby (and so on for others)
  • Kirby Stages
    • Name/Description
  • Kirby related trophies/items
    • Name/Description

etc, so no Link information, Zelda information, Mario, Snake, etc...And we should have a nice article that would get to stay here forever. I have an addition to infoboxes in mind for articles like this to link to our associated wikis. But that's on a long list of things to do.. Axiomist 05:38, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

I agree. Our SSB coverage should only pertain to the Kirby related stuff, with the sole exception of the article introduction, which should give a short summary of what the game in general is about. - File:KNiD E BroomHatter.png Edofenrir( talk) 06:51, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
By games, do you mean events? Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 23:20, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
I meant Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Smash Bros. Melee" etc. That would be a good start and if you have ideas for other stuff we could hash it out later. I'm not sure about BP and MW, but ZW for sure would be ok with the image copying for SSB. Best thing to do is credit where you pulled the image in the summary if you go forward with that. But we certainly don't want to copy from Wikia. Axiomist 23:36, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Mobile view

Okay, this page looks horrid in mobile browsers (things are cut off and disjointed.) I'll provide pics later so we can see what to do about._Neo(U) (T) (C)(Home) 13:35, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Proposals

Shouldn't Wikirby have proposals like Zelda Wiki and Bulbapedia?? 68071 (Talk)

We have several places where anyone can give us ideas: If you want to suggest something and put in on the wiki, please put it here. You can also be added to the Skype chat (WiKirby All Stars), and talk to other WiKirby editors as well as staff about some suggestions and have fun all at the same time. Austin (NIWA Operative) 01:03, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land levels' doors

How should each door in the levels of Kirby's Adventure and its remake be handled? Should they each have a separate page or be put in the level's article? Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 22:20, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

I guess we can do it as a section on say the Vegetable Valley page, then as it expands take it out or something. I'm hoping to be able to get images from the game on this pc soon.Axiomist 03:53, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I don't think the areas behind the doors have enough content to fill an article, so they should be collected on the level article. If images are an issue: I have the game 100% completed, so I could make screenshots of every area if needed. - Edofenrir( talk) 21:52, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Idea

On a game article, maybe we can show the ablitys and enemies in that game? I think its a good idea Joey 7:45 PM, 25 May 2010.

On my page, I am making a temporary list that compares what abilities are in what games. I was going to post it when I'm done. Not sure about the enemies though. Got any sugestions for my list? Ember Incubus 23:57, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
I should suggest needle Kirby, and the combo ablitys from Kirby 64. KirJoey 3:47 PM, 26 May 2010
All the Kirby 64 Copy Ability pages will hopefully use the K64Power template, which lists all the abilities in the game. Austin (NIWA Operative) 19:57, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm actualy making a seperate table for KDL2, KDL3, and K64 abilities. Ember Incubus 02:09, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I finished both of the tables and put them under the Copy Ability‎ page. -- կրակ (խոսել) -- 00:41, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Another Idea

Maybe this will help make the NIWA co. known, why maybe make a youtube account and put reviews, game walkthroughs, and more! And it could be for any franchise that is nintendo! Whadda think, good or bad?

I think it is a good idea. Infact, we should make walkthrough videos too. -- կրակ (խոսել) -- 23:41, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
I think Bulbapedia has already started videos. You might want to bring this up on the NIWA site forums. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 01:32, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
I had been considering creating a Youtube account for WiKirby so we could control our own videos. The main reason I haven't done it is the obvious one, :P at this point we have so much to do and it may be unwise to take up another burden. Right now we're really lacking in still images, articles, and references. On that note, I was thinking we could consider compartmentalizing; at least temporarily. To elaborate on that, this is where I've been pulling images. it'd be cool to have someone who's WiKirby position was to mine images, source them, clean them up, transparent, compress, upload, and place in as many articles as possible.

Axiomist (talk) 06:19, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

I can help with the image situation, but I can't use transparancy. I think we should divide up the users into different asignments. That way a few could do youtube, a few can make templates/charts, a few can make articles, a few can do uploads, and a few can double check everything. -- կրակ (խոսել) -- 06:31, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
If you want to jump in there and get started with cropping out useful images, scanning the other manuals, etc that'd be cool. I put a link to get Gimp downloaded, I only have some basic image transparent techniques committed to memory. So some of the images of Kirby in the Squeak Squad manual were impossible for me. But yeah, it seems you catch my drift with compartmentalizing. I think we could actually cover more ground that way. For instance, when I'm working on an article if I go look for an image, I find several that we could use, my article gets a backseat and I fuss with Gimp for the rest of the day. Alternatively, if we had designated people for specific tasks, then we would function something like a real office.

Axiomist (talk) 06:47, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

I can use Paint.NET, but I can not use it on this comp. This compt isn;'tcompatible with transparent images for some reasons. I have a laptop that can make transparent images, but it would be atleast a week before I can. What I really want to do it templates. Do you have any templates you think we need that I can make? -- կրակ (խոսել) -- 06:57, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Well we have no userboxes, edit count template, and i wanted a userbox for people to say they primarily use Nintendoland.com, Kirby's Rainbow Resort, Unseen 64, Zelda Wiki, NIWA, Bulbapeia, Mario Wiki, UserOwnsGameName etc. Tho they don't seem important I think some user page flair helps retain people,

Axiomist (talk) 07:17, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Just out of curiosity, do we plan to do text based walkthroughs similar to Bulbapedia? Or are the games too simple for that to be necessary? --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 03:42, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I think we should take an aproach similer to Zelda Dungeon. THey had a text walkthrough along with a video walkthrough. That is one technique that I always felt Zelda Wiki lacked. (Maybe becuase t already existed withing the masterminds.) But, I also think there should be that on Wikirby. There are not very many other kirby websites that arn't spriter kirby sites except Kirby's Rainbow Resort. And even they do not go into walkthroughs. I might eventualy make a walkthrough of KAM, I can do others too but I don't have a non-ROM of those. Can anyone try doing some video walkthroughs? -- կրակ (խոսել) -- 04:11, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I MIGHT be able to do a Kirby 64 Video Walkthrough. I just need to know how to organize it, and where to put it. --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 16:00, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
I have awesome news for us. Strategy Wiki is willing to partner with us for guides and walkthroughs. This is a very awesome accomplishment, since only Zelda Wiki and Bulbapedia are currently partners. Many of their guides are undeveloped, so there's still room to create. We'll have to prepare our pages for the increased traffic from them, I think we can have infoboxes with links and external links to them in the game articles, location articles, and subgame articles. Plus I think a good addition to user pages would be some links to walkthroughs you created there. I haven't fully discussed it with them, but I'm going to say it's ok for WiKirby's images and videos to be used there too. So let's say I run through a level and record it, upload it to Youtube, place it on an article here, I'll place it there too. Our articles will document the levels themselves; whereas their articles will be walkthroughs.

I actually hadn't thought to seek out a partnership with them until I saw the messages here, just so you know I'm listening to anything I can address. I just hope you guys trust that this is the best possible way forward. We get a huge new partnership (which always helps to bring in new members), some of the walkthroughs are done, so it's not going to overwhelm anyone, and you still get to create new guides from scratch. Axiomist (talk) 05:17, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Well....

I seem to find out about there is a other Wiki about Kirby with a lot more info, althougth im sticking to this Kirby wiki, maybe we should see if they want to support us.

Don't worry. Wikias may seem profesional but they never last over a mounth. There may be some people visiting it and making it populer, but it will die out faster than it takes for the old man from Tell-tale Heart to rest in peace. =P It has only existed for 13 days so far. -- կրակ (խոսել) -- 18:43, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

When I checked everything in a mounth of its recent changes, I only got 13 days worth of info, not over a year. Besides, once again it is a wikia, nobody goes to those. We shan't worry about making enemies. Lets just try and improve our wiki. By the way, sign your messages. ~~~ Is just name. ~~~~ is name and time. ~~~~~ is just time. Atleast sign your name. But, they have been on since 07. User Talk: KirJoey

Several of the Kirby Wikia admins have signed up here, Starman, Blue NinjaKoopa, and GameFreak75. They are helping to make sure nothing is copied from their wiki and hosted here. I'll admit, I like these guys much more than I like the Zeldapedia staff. The Kirby Wikia staffers have been respectful, and Ember, you have to click some options on the Recent Changes such as show the past 500 edits in the past 30 days to see more activity level. The sad truth about Wikia is that the parent company draws in more people that want to write on talkpages, blogs, and userpages than people that want to work on articles and the wiki project itself.

I knew about them before I started this wiki, but I also knew someone would have to create a Kirby wiki for NIWA. See there's so many Kirby references in Zelda games that ZW needed someone to link to for further Kirby reading. Our choices were Wikipedia and Wikia, Wikipedia will link back to Wikia (Zeldapedia) for the corresponding Zelda information in a Kirby article, and so would the Kirby Wikia. So we'd send traffic down a one way street, what makes it worse (as evidenced by Bulbapedia's recent news) is that Wikia's owner is out to buy and delete wikis that aren't on their network. The best thing to do was to create our own Kirby wiki, and unite the independent gaming wikis. This way when Mario Wiki.com, Bulbapedia, Zelda Wiki.org, and now WiKirby insert a link for more information on another series, they'll have one back. This also helps expand our knowledge pool. I often check on the other wikis to see if they need help with anything.

We may not be as old as the Kirby Wikia site, nor have as much content, but I think WiKirby is becoming a wiki worth being respected in its own right. With enough work, one day someone will call it their favorite website! I've already gotten compliments on our Main Page and some of the articles here! Axiomist (talk) 23:03, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Also, wouldn't our domain providers have a say to what Wikia will try to do? --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 23:20, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Domain providers? Could you elaborate on that?

Axiomist (talk) 23:29, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm kind of confused by what you mean also. If you mean it in a pride sence, like why would steal info, I think that is pretty much established. Whether or not this wikia ffects us at all, we should still try to ignore it and continue as if we never had this conversation. P.S.: I did use both 500 and 30 days. I think the reason I only got 13 daies is because they had more than 500 edits in 13 days. -- կրակ (խոսել) -- 23:33, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Don't we have another group who is providing us with our website? Whatever, I agree with Ember, and let's ignore it. --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 23:38, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Hello, I saw this conversation so I decided to drop by, but it seems Axiomist has already solved the problem. Yeah, and Kirby Wikia has been around since 2007 like Kirjoey said.Gamefreak75 (Talk)
Ah ok, I usually determine the age of a wiki by the first main page edit. Usually the Main Page is automatically created. I don't think any of us want to steal content, some younger newer members might not realize it's inappropriate so it's something we have to look out for. Kirby Wiki.org is being squatted basically, and there's a Kirbypedia which is rather decent, but runs on Media Wiki 1.6 no extensions, and no one is allowed to edit. We somewhat sorta have support from the Kirby Rainbow Resorters, a few of their members have edited here, but I haven't been able to get ahold of Kindar Spirit, that wiki's owner. I'll try emailing her again.
Remino, there were some brief talks with Bulbapedia about WiKirby being on their host, but I opted not to and paid for the domain and hosting from my own money. I didn't want to risk being a burden on BP's server or tech team. I paid for both for a year, and will renew in January. I think the renewal fees will be cheaper than the startup ones. But I gave Adam access to everything. So if by chance I'm not around to keep it going, he likely will be. By sharing all of that, I think we're prepared for even worse case scenario.

First of all, to sign something with a custom Signature page, you write {{:User:KirJoey/sig}}. (But you haveto make the page first.) Second of all, I don't think we should advertise for free like that. It is the equivalint to spamming. -- կրակ (խոսել) -- 19:39, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
This ad isn't so bad, we all know KirJoey from the Recent Changes! He's been a highly active user! We know he's not an advertising spammer, and his message is about advertising WiKirby and NIWA. I'm interested. I'm barely going to have any time this week, But I'd still like to hear about it.

Appearance sections

(Didn't really know where to put this, as it deals with multiple articles and I could not find any other place to discuss general issues like this; feel free to move this somewhere else if there's a better place for it.) I have noticed that some of the enemy/character articles on the Wiki have an "Appearance" section while others don't, which looks rather unprofessional. There should probably be a standard. In my personal opinion, these sections are not really needed, as most of them only contain one or two relevant sentences, which could just as well be put into the article introduction or another section; sections that are longer than this, like the one in the Rick article, tend to include information that has nothing to do with physical appearance (in the example, the Appearance section sums up the character's appearance in a single sentence, then proceeds to cover his in-game abilities). The second problem with these sections is that enemies/characters often change in look between individual appearances, so we would have to point out all the changes the subject has undergone in the Appearance section, which in my opinion seems a bit illogical as we already have different sections for the individual appearances of an enemy/character either way, so we could simply mention these changes in those. I would like to hear what others have to say on Appearance sections.--Vellidragon 15:53, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. Sections like that are good whenever there's a need to break up the information. I've noticed many many stubs were created with 1-4 sentence statements divided into multiple sections. Such very short articles could contain things into a paragraph until someone really creates in-depth articles. I've been trying to lay some ground work down for basic pages, ok, mostly Sub Games bc I love em! I have an on-going WordPad draft for Rainbow Run, (references, details, details, and details) as soon as that's done I'm hoping to delve into some enemy page expansions. But don't wait on me guys! The best thing to do would be to find an enemy that has minimal appearances and a great article, we can stick it on the Main Page (to replace Meta Knight) and people could use it as an example on how to craft great articles for even small topics. Well I gotta get to sleep, but feel free to use your intuition and discretion for dealing with those pages for now. If you guys agree on any policy while I'm gone, I'll support it.

Grammar error at the bottom

Nothing major: "It's can be a real life saver" needs to be "It can be a real life saver". BNK [E|T|C] 23:28, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Thank you, it's been fixed :3 (Now I just hope that wasn't the intentional sort of mistake xP)--Vellidragon 23:53, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Main Page Formatting

I don't know if I'm the only one experiencing this, but in Firefox with a resolution of 1024x768, the boxes that are supposed to be on the right (like the News box) are too wide to be displayed next to those on the left, and thus are instead displayed below them. I had not noticed this earlier as I had accidently set my zoom to less than 100% on the Main Page tab; it works then, and it also works with higher resolutions, but 100% zoom and 1024x768 screen resolution messes it up. I don't know all that much about formatting, so I'm pointing this out so someone with more knowledge in this area can perhaps fix it; 1024x768 is quite a common screen resolution, so the page should look normal when viewed that way.--Vellidragon 20:48, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

okey doke. We were discussing in the NIWA skype chat recently on possibly designing all of the niwa wiki's main pages for that exact same res. It's the #2 most used for WiKirby according to Google Analytic. We're supposed to have a fluid width, so that the boxes shrink their width as the page is shrunken, but expand their height. One thing that might be botching it is the Image section, as images need to be set to a certain pixel size. I've never tried setting an image size as a % instead, but will look heavily into reworking the main page with those considerations and any others this weekend. Thanks for pointing this out. Axiomist (talk) 04:38, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
All fixed, it was a min-width thing. My monitor now shows a huge gap under the niwa bar and beside the video template. Big enough to put something there. Everyone is welcome to suggest something Axiomist (talk) 19:11, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Minor trouble with formatting again; on 1024x768, the scroll bar in the news box prevents the header images from fitting (the second wing image is displayed on the next line). Also, in the KEY announcement box, the top part of the text overlaps with the image a little (the topmost stroke of the "F", for instance, is near invisible unless the text is highlighted because it's in front of a similarly coloured portion of the image).--Vellidragon 12:06, 19 October 2010 (CDT)

Repairs made! I was actually in that res trying to get the bottom to line up, I overlooked the rest of the page :p. Well, lesson learned. While we're on the subject, I've tried thousands of times with different images to isolate any good KEY buttons for template flair, and if anyone wants a pattern made into a div class to work the KEY theme a bit more, lemme know. Axiomist (talk) 23:36, 19 October 2010 (CDT)

"Random Image"

Shouldn't "Random Image" be "Featured Picture"? It's not really 'random', since it's voted on, and the link at the bottom says "Have you voted for the next Featured Picture yet?" Moydow 23:34, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Well so far nothing voted on went up, I just picked the last 3 images out of the blue, and didn't want to say Featured Image, since there's currently none, and if we had at least one, it could say Featured Image while it's up and Random Image when we just throw something else there to not have a stale main page section. Same with the article section. I now think I was too hasty in creating a Featured Content presentation scheme since groundwork is still kinda ongoing. The voted question is meant to drive some attention to those pages, but I'm thinking until we have a decent library of eligible images and articles, we should just mix things up. Also, I was never happy with the word "Random". I'd love to get some ideas and help on implementing a system here similar to the trivia and video that would cycle automatically. Axiomist (talk) 04:38, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
The StrategyWiki main page rotates through the featured guides each time the page is loaded. It uses a template involving #switch. It's located at sw:StrategyWiki:Featured Guide/2007-08. The videos on the main page here seem to rotate daily. I guess it depends on how often you want them to rotate. Moydow 15:22, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
Ah, we did something like that for the Link article at ZW. There was a dispute on which image should be in the infobox, and the solution was to use them all. Refresh the Link page several times to see different images. I'm hoping we can do that for articles that get a lot of images here too. One reason I like daily and weekly rotations is that it works independent of a person's cookies, so if they saw something but didn't have time to read, it'll be there later on, rather than cycling at every pageload. But I think in articles that's an awesome tool to make a page interesting. Axiomist (talk) 05:30, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

List of Game Staff

Do you guys think we should have a list of staff members for each game like Bulbapedia? This crossed my mind and I think it would be a nice addition for the wiki. --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 02:17, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Do they do it as a separate article, subpage, or all in the same page? It's information, and information is what we want. So I think it would be good.Axiomist (talk) 05:36, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
It would be a Subpage, linked to the Game Page, just like BP. :) If that would be the case I would request to change the Game Info Box as well. --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 16:18, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Sorry if I am interrupting, but it is on a separate page, titled "Staff of <game>", not as a subpage, on bulbapedia. For example, here is the Emerald staff page. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 17:39, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Woops, alright then. That's the plan then? --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 19:14, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, first we need a list of the consisting staff in each of their corresponding game... then just make the page similar to how Bulba did. Ex: Staff in Kirby:Canvas Curse. Austin (NIWA Operative) 19:18, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Does that include the NOEDITSECTION and the NOTOC at the top, which prevents both editing sections and seeing the table of contents? Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 22:40, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
I would guess, as it would look horrible otherwise. Austin (NIWA Operative) 22:44, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Clever use of markup can eliminate the need for those. Bolding and br tags would do it, but I think after the list is complete, it becomes one of the few pages that are static, since we couldn't just add up staff members to expand the article one day, so protecting the page upon completion may be needed. Axiomist (talk) 04:09, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Bulbapedia links the staff page from the Game Infobox, can someone code that in the Template? I honestly don't know how to. lol I just patrol. --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 20:13, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
I can. I coded some of one of Bulbapedia's infoboxes. I am recoding part of the game infobox for ease of putting pictures right now anyway. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 20:52, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Slightly Off-Topic* Now that you mention it, are you planning to make the corners of the template round? Templates are mixed between have straight or round edges, and I think we might as well make round the standard. --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 21:07, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm not planning to nor do I know how to with these infoboxes, but I will try to if you want it to be round. Thing is though, all infoboxes on this wiki rely on the infobox template template, while bulbapedia's infoboxes, which I am more used to, are manually coded. I only know how to make them round by use of manual coding. But on the heading topic, I didn't see the staff part in bulbapedia's current game infobox, so where do you want the staff part to be placed in it?Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 22:13, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm... I see it on their Red and Green page. :/ Anyway, I guess the bottom would do fine. --Stupid Name Guy, Remino52 22:38, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
That makes sense, I was looking at Yellow version and Colosseum only. But back on topic, I managed to put both of my tests (image without putting [[File:<filename>]] and putting staff link in infobox. check it out at the bottom. The only downside is that I had to replace my entire userpage with a | for file names. Without it, with pipe will simply be counted as another parameter. I'd suggest, if not already done, making a template that merely displays |, like template:! does at bulbapedia. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 00:36, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Main Page

Out of curiosity, why isn't the main page on the Main Page? Malake256 04:15, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

If you looked at its history, you would of seen the following:

(moved Main Page to Kirby Wiki: SEO strategy)

Austin (NIWA Operative) 05:33, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

yeah, The move helps WiKirby show up in search engines. After all, who searches "Main Page"?Axiomist (talk) 22:49, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
Out of boredom and curiosity, I did. Number one result is Wikipedia. But if you Google 'Kirby Wiki', we're in at number four, behind two entries from the Kirby Wikia, and the WP article on Kirby. Moydow 01:12, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
Lol! I guess it worked. I'm still amazed that WiKirby's Alexa rank is in the 1,200,000 range, since I haven't done a comprehensive SEO campaign. It's another one of the many many things I need to get working on. Axiomist (talk) 01:37, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
Wow we're [Metroid Wiki] at 2 million. Haha. Awkward considering we have a hundred more articles. Dang, the baby niwa wikis need some collective advertising. Malake256 06:08, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Agreed, I've been thinking we should pick one NIWA member whose "job" would be to advertise the wikis. But that's a discussion for that forum. I only have basic SEO knowledge but since "Kirby" is also people's last name, company names, street names (in my city anyway), etc, and "Metroid" pretty much only applies to the game series; the two names alone would have differing values to search engines. And one other tip, Article count can hurt your wiki's rank if they are mostly undeveloped. I've been focusing on trying to get each new article I create to as fully developed as I can; rather than creating as many as I can. This sorta slows me down, but I think it's best to sacrifice quantity to quality. Axiomist (talk) 14:11, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah that's Metroid Wiki's biggest problem, most of our articles are stubs. But we're doing the same, we're working on it. An anti-stub crusade seems at hand :] . Most of those stubby articles were formed before MW had an ample staff, so they're better now that we do have a good staff. So now they are getting much better :]. I hope Wikirby's doing well too. Another problem is, though, the number of editors. Which advertising would solve. As for the NIWA member, that would be a nice thread. Oh hey, that's what the suggestions thread is for I guess. Melchizedek will start an SEO campaign as well for MW. Lets hope it works just as well. And advertising can be pretty hard even with our friends in NIWA Malake256 05:07, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

New kirby game for DS

As seen in Joystiq under this article:http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/kirby-pokemon-typing-on-the-way-to-regular-old-ds/

And at position 3:00 in the DS video of this page:http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/29/footage-of-nintendos-3ds-ds-and-wii-lineupss/

I think that it will be a puzzle game where you get ten Kirbies to the end of a stage or something like that. In any case, it sure is newsworthy.-- Static 12:11, 29 September 2010 (CDT)

Oh this is exciting news! I'll have a post tonight! Just need to make an article for what's known about the new game.Axiomist (talk) 17:45, 29 September 2010 (CDT)

Featured Article

Is there a particular reason the link at the bottom of what I presume is the featured article box goes to WiKirby:Current events instead of the Featured Article Nomination page, or is this just a mistake?--Vellidragon 14:44, 3 October 2010 (CDT)

"Did you know that..."

There is an error within the first fact... actually, not an error, but the main information is missing. It's supposed to say that while Kirby calls for help from his mirror counterparts or his warpstar and has the UFO ability, a small satellite dish will be used instead of the phone. BNK [E|T|C] 16:21, 22 October 2010 (CDT)

Thanks for pointing that out, I had been wondering what was up with that bit for a while because it didn't seem to make much sense, and I didn't know what it was supposed to say. The Did You Know section uses a template, btw, which is not locked afaik, so if you spot another mistake, feel free to fix it yourself :3 --Vellidragon 17:38, 22 October 2010 (CDT)

Import

Where is your import and export option? Kirby Wikia has several articles that you don't have that I'd like to import.--Megatron1 20:52, 24 October 2010 (CDT)

Skin suggestion

I would of switched to Vector skin to solve this but.. could someone add "Special:SpecialPages" onto the sidebar? Would make it much more convenient for me. HavocReaper48 21:42, 18 January 2011 (CST)

Done. Anything else? I'm always eager to implement ideas to improve the wiki. Axiomist (talk) 18:48, 20 January 2011 (CST)

Happy Birthday, WiKirby!

Just wanted to say "congratulations on making it for one full year, WiKirby!" I hope you're proud of it, because you should be. I'm glad I helped out and I'm glad to see this site prosper. Best of luck in the next year to both Ax and the site!_Neo(U) (T) (C)(Home) 02:32, 24 January 2011 (CST)

May this site continue to prosper. Good luck on your second year. Gamefreak75 (Talk)
Thanks to both of you for the past contributions and future well wishing! Since most of our first year was all about laying groundwork and setting precedent where possible-more than article/template creation; I think its safe to say we'll have a lot more articles created and snazzier templates over the rest of this year! With the small amount of work we've done so far, many a wiki staffers and editors came around and found inspiration to bring back to their home wiki. So imagine what great creations we'll have when we actually have more time to focus on those.Axiomist (talk) 23:13, 24 January 2011 (CST)

A late birthday present

[1] HavocReaper48 21:48, 28 January 2011 (CST)

Best birthday present ever for a fansite! Also we were discussing on skype how cool it is that Kotaku referred to it as the new "Wii Kirby" (which should sound exactly like "WiKirby") instead of "Kirby Wii". I'm guessing it shows that WiKirby has definitely come a long way in a year. Axiomist (talk) 23:34, 30 January 2011 (CST)

A Error

In the new games section, I see Kirby's Epic Yarn. The thing is, it was released in Oct. 2010, which is already passed by. Maybe take it off the template? --Joey

It's actually not an error, Only the US and Japan have Kirby's Epic Yarn. The rest of the world gets it later this month. Axiomist (talk) 12:46, 5 February 2011 (CST)

Oh, I forgot. XD --Joey

Wikia

Actually, I've been getting lots of my Kirby knowledge from Wikia.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Kirby-140 (talkcontribs) . Please always sign your comments by typing ~~~~!

That's fine as long as you don't plagiarise their information and don't rely on it without doing your own research. A lot of the information on the Wikia is just plain incorrect and/or not thoroughly researched, and we don't need that on here.--Vellidragon 20:13, 12 April 2011 (CDT)

News - Kirby DS

I noticed that KRR posted an article about a Famitsu section for the unknown Kirby DS game! Full Story Famitsu Scan

WAIT A MINUTE.

If Josh is comfirmed dead, then whos gonna be owner of Wikirby? --Joey

The way things look at the moment, Tacopill is going to be paying for the hosting, if you mean that (Adam is currently paying for it until Taco gets everything set up, as far as I'm aware). As far as an "owner" who does stuff to the site other than hosting it goes though, I suppose I'm currently the closest thing to that which WiKirby has at this moment, being the only admin and also currently the only staff member left (apart from Adam, who always mainly did behind-the-scenes work); I am aware that's not a very pleasant prospect :p In any case though, don't worry, the site won't be going down anytime soon and it won't be abandoned (any more than it already is), although a lot of things are progressing more slowly or have pretty much come to a halt at the moment.--Vellidragon 15:38, 13 May 2011 (CDT)
Woot! A *insert age here* female from Germany as a owner! Jk, though you are rather nice n' serious, like me in real life. :) --Joey

A small question

Does Wikirby prefer the British/Commonwealth spelling convention or the American-English one? I noticed Kirby (series) used 'instalment', but I was too hesitant to change it. --Chickasaurus 02:43, 21 July 2011 (CDT)

We prefer both! We use Template:UserLang (and, for common words, pre-made templates; look at Category:Personal settings templates for a list of what we have at the moment and feel free to make more if you predict they're going to be needed) to make words appear in British or American spelling depending on user preferences. I'm sorry about the instalment thing, I forgot that word had two spellings when I wrote that bit; it should of course be replaced with Template:Installment.--Vellidragon 09:48, 21 July 2011 (CDT)
Oh that's awesome! Thanks for clarifying, and don't worry about it. --Chickasaurus 06:28, 26 July 2011 (CDT)

Great Anime Artwork!

I found a great place for artwork for just about everyone in the anime: [2]. I uploaded some artwork of the main characters, but someone needs to upload it all and there is too much for me! Can everyone with spare time help out? --Triple D is awesome 09:59, 5 August 2011 (CDT)

I think Kirby's Rainbow Resort is already rather well known as pretty much the only source for Kirby artwork. If more artwork is uploaded though, please make the backgrounds transparent and save the pictures as PNGs before uploading (or ask someone else to do that, if you don't know how). If all else fails, I'll have to eventually make these transparent myself, but given that I have other things to do as well, I would greatly appreciate if they were already transparent when they're uploaded :\ --Vellidragon 10:15, 5 August 2011 (CDT)

aww, give us one chance to prove my/ourselves and well wow you! c,mon! please!--Fishhooks500 16:42, 17 August 2011 (CDT)

I was just making clear to anyone wanting to sign up that it hasn't been approved by the site staff so they don't hold me responsible for anything resulting or not resulting from that; I wasn't trying to forbid what you are attempting to do, sorry if it sounded like that, although I'm also still not sure what it actually is you are trying to do. I'm not currently planning to assign someone I don't know and who has no history of contributions to manage the news on the main page, so I'm sorry if that's what you were hoping to accomplish (and if there is going to be a whole team managing the news, I would rather appoint it myself, though this is unlikely to happen in the near future in any case, given the sparseness of actual contributors). None of the news stuff is top priority at the moment, though, and I don't want to say anything definite at this time.--Vellidragon 17:14, 17 August 2011 (CDT)

"Kirby Wii"

On the main page, you need to rename "Kirby Wii" to "Kirby: Return to Dream Land" …—Preceding unsigned comment added by Elikirby42 (talkcontribs) . Please always sign your comments by typing ~~~~!

Somewhat minor error

There is an error on the navbox for Kirby's Return to Dreamland. The third level says "Onion Oceans", but it should just be "Onion Ocean." I thought I'd point this out before trying to make the level's article again. Star Light 19:46, 2 February 2012 (CST)

I believe you should be able to fix that yourself, actually... I don't think template editing in general is limited to user groups and I'm fairly certain none of the navboxes are protected, but I might be wrong. The Return one is here: Template:KirbyRtDL--Vellidragon 20:07, 2 February 2012 (CST)
Oops, you're right. Thank you! Sorry about that. Star Light 20:13, 2 February 2012 (CST)

Annoying cursor bug

Funny things happen to the cursor in IE8. When you hover over a link, the cursor remains in its click-finger form as you move it around the page until it leaves the window or hits a text box, where it locks into its "I" form instead. Don't know if it's important but I figured someone might want to know. Toomai Glittershine 23:10, 3 February 2012 (CST)

Easier to Reach Discussion Page

Sorry to intrude, but I've been wondering why it took so long to get to this page. There should be a special section much like ZeldaWiki's Hyrule castle. Anyone agree? Medipink-8:58, 4/27/12

I'm wondering the same; it's the talk page of the wiki's main page, so it shouldn't take long to get to; just click "Discussion" at the top of the main page. With the stunning (sarcasm warning) amount of discussions and general activity on this wiki, I don't see what good a special section would do; site issues get brought up once in a blue moon at most, so the main page talk should suffice at present time.--Vellidragon 21:40, 27 April 2012 (CDT)

Oh. that explains the whole mess. Anyways, If that thing about not many discussions is true, then there must not be much traffic. Clearly, we need to recruit new members, whether by word of mouth or by other means. Yours, Medipink 10:44 pm, 28 April 2012

New game

Kirby's Dream Coloection is a new game coming out. Shouldn't that be in the Upcoming Games category? SSBBKirby (talk) 10:21, 23 June 2012 (CDT)

Dangit. I was about to post about this.

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VK2vuO2hEQ --Joey 16:17, 23 June 2012 (CDT)

I'll add it to the main page lineup tomorrow, if that's what's being asked. Also, note that we don't have an actual news person to actively research Kirby news, so if something is announced and it's not on the main page, it's likely because I (and other active staff) simply don't know about it. Sorry about that, and keep informing us of these things so we can catch up with the rest of the internet :p --Vellidragon 20:50, 23 June 2012 (CDT)

Kirby's Dream Collection Front Page Image + Other Stuff

I just uploaded the English version of the same box art shown on the front page for Kirby's Dream Collection. We should likely switch to using the English version everywhere, including the main page. Also, Kirby's Dream Collection is not yet listed in the Games box that shows at the bottom of the Games pages, nor does the box show up at the bottom of Dream Collection's page. This should probably be fixed, unless we want to wait until the game is released. I see no reason to wait, however. It makes the page much easier to navigate to. Raen 23:37, 25 August 2012 (CDT)

I realized I could fix and add the game navbox myself, so I did so. I also totally overhauled the Dream Collection page and added a lot of images. I hope it looks alright! Raen 17:50, 27 August 2012 (CDT)

Hey, thanks for the work to the Kirby's Dream Collection page and related things, it is much appreciated :3 Sorry for not responding earlier, I'm rather occupied with other things currently and can't do much site work and there aren't many other people around to take care of stuff either. I replaced the lineup image with the North American box art now, thanks for uploading that :3 --Vellidragon 19:42, 1 September 2012 (CDT)

Anybody planning on buying Kirby's Dream Collection?

So, the Dream Collection comes out this week. Is anybody here planning on picking it up right away? If so, please update the Dream Collection page with any new information, particularly from the book that comes with it! Sadly, I won't be buying it right away (the Wii I own quit reading discs, so I have to buy a new one of those first), so I can't do it myself. Raen 11:58, 11 September 2012 (CDT)

NIWA Check in request

Hello, I'm dkpat from Golden Sun Universe/NIWA. I recently made a thread on the NIWA Forums that requests that an admin from each wiki "check-in" and give an update on their wiki activity. I would appreciate it if someone from Metroid wiki could check in. Thank you. Link Dkpat

Hello.

You guys may not know who I am, but I am an established contributor on several wikis, mostly consisting of NIWA Wikis. I am here due to the recent problem the site has undertaken and am here to inform that the problem may not yet be over. The domain name wikirby.com, is apparently set to expire soon. I suggest that if we can't get ahold of Adam, we use Special:Export to back up pages and potentially use them to move the wiki before this site goes down again. I cannot host but am willing to help move things. That is all. Dr. Pain 99 02:18, 3 August 2013 (CDT)

Hallo. Thank you for your concern, that does seem like a good idea. I'll see what I can do in helping to back things up. There actually have been a few hosting offers in the past, so I don't think we would have trouble finding a new host. With the domain having to be renewed though, there's some hope that Adam will have to pay some attention around that time, though we can't rely on that of course.--Vellidragon 09:54, 3 August 2013 (CDT)
Alrite, just let me know if there's anything I can do to help Dr. Pain 99 12:33, 3 August 2013 (CDT)

Advertisements

In order to support the upkeep of the server, we're asking the sites we're hosting if they would be willing to host advertisements. We're looking to have two to three ads on each site - one at the top and bottom of the content area, and possibly one in the sidebar, but this can be negotiated. All money raised will go towards the cost of the server/hosting and domain names. This won't affect the day-to-day running of the site in any way. Please discuss this, and let me know if you're okay with ads being placed on the site. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. Thank you, Moydow 21:03, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
