"Kirby Super Star" is avalibe for download on America's VC since yesterday (Monday 17/05/10) "Hello this is AlanWarpStar"

moveEdit

I think this should be moved to Kirby series because it is referred to as the Kirby series, not as Kirby. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 14:40, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

According to Wikipedia at least, the name of the series is just "Kirby", however, not "Kirby series", which makes sense, considering "Kirby" is used in all the game names (notably some newer ones, like Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, which quite clearly uses "Kirby" as a series title). The article did make "Kirby series" bold in its entirety, seemingly indicating that "Kirby series" was the name of the series, but that has been fixed now :3 --Vellidragon 15:35, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Okay then. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 18:33, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Main series and spinoff designationsEdit

Hello. I've been quite curious about the manner in which games in the series are separated between mainline and spinoff titles. Is there a source for the manner of how these are differentiated with regard to HAL's own designations, or is the matter arbitrarily determined by some fans? Some cases of more experimental games being relegated to spinoff feels iffy to me, so knowing that there's a dependable/official guideline would be nice.

Thank you. 162.158.159.6 18:48, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

The main series is clearly differentiated by the usage of "Hoshi no Kaabii" (Kirby of the Stars) in the games' Japanese names, as stated in the article. HAL themselves considers them as such, evidenced by how for example in Kirby Star Allies Dream Friends are only from main series games, one source being this article: "The rule was to select one character from each title in the main action games over the years, the so-called core Kirby games, the equivalent to numbered sequels.". In a Miiverse post here, Triple Deluxe was called the 10th traditional Kirby platformer. These are two sources I can name from the top of my head, but I'm sure I could find more later if I searched more.
Bottom line is, the way we handle the main series vs spinoffs is how HAL has always handled them. Games like Epic Yarn and Rainbow Curse may be platformers but lack Kirby's inhale powers, so they aren't main series games, they are spinoffs. To put things simply, Japan uses "Hoshi no Kaabii" for main series games, while it uses just "Kaabii" for the spinoffs. It was never carried over for other languages for some reason, so I understand the confusion, however. - Gigi (talkedits) 19:09, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the elaboration. I suppose the most particular aspect of the matter for me was primary source citation of HAL standing behind that means of distinction and perhaps, as an aside, a way of being sure that the presence of the copy ability and inhale being determining factors and not incidental or secondary to the designation. Either way, the case is far stronger to me thanks to the anecdote in that article about Star Allies for sure. Thanks again for taking the time and providing additional sourcing for both the fact that the games are actively considered in such a way as well as something that more dependably indicates what qualifies to sit in each category.
