"Grandy" is this enemy's real name:

  • content0.game/romfs/gfx/STD/Step/Enemy/Grandy.bch.cmp (Kirby: Triple Deluxe)
  • content0.game/romfs/gfx/Step/Enemy/Grandy.bch.cmp (Kirby: Planet Robobot)

Like Waddle Dee and Carry Dee / Wonkey, the skiing variant is called "Skigrandy" in the former. AdieuLain (talk) 19:49, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Before I change this article name, you think the name 'Grandy' might be shorthand for 'Grand Dee'? --Fubaka (talk) 23:30, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
According to Kābī Wiki, its Japanese name is 「グランディ」 (Gurandi), so it looks about right; Grand Dee would be 「グランドディ」 (Gurandodi). AdieuLain (talk) 23:43, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Grandy to Grand Dee - Proposal (January 6, 2021)

It has come to my senses that Grandy is not the proper name for this article, as it is based off internal data as mentioned in the "Names in other languages" section. Grand Dee, in my opinion, makes more sense since it is already a derivative of the usual Waddle Dee, and calling it "Grandy" breaks the tradition of having most Waddle Dee variants end with Dee.

For reference, ワドルディ (Wadorudi) is Waddle Dee's Japanese name, and it would be weird if I called it something like "Waddledy", and not Waddle Dee. This should be the same case for Grandy (Grand Dee), at least. What do you think? EleCyon (talk) 09:45, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

So first of all, when starting new discussion, remember to start it in level 2 header, by clicking the "+" near the edit button or typing it manually with == <title goes here> == - no worries, I already fixed that for you. Second, I oppose the move, as it's not based of internal data, but it's already translated from Japanese. グランディ, as stated in article and by LTL just above us, it can be translated to "Grand Dee" or "Grandy", and since the game data uses the latter one, it can be used as reference for the name. It doesn't matter (at least for me) if it breaks the pattern with other enemies, if HAL made it like that, we just have to live with it. I think reading this discussion can help get where I got my general idea from. Also, in your reasonings, you say "What do you think?". This "you" baffles me a lot. Are you asking this question to specific person? If yes, who is that person? Superbound (talk) 11:15, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
Oh right, I forgot to ask "What do you all think". I was supposed to refer this proposal to everyone. Whoopsie. EleCyon (talk) 02:26, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
Personally, I'd support the move. Ending it with "dy" just sounds wrong because it is so inconsistent with other Waddle Dee names. That's fine if HAL intended it to be that way...but I really don't think they did. Internal data names do not prove this as they are not intended as official names, so it doesn't make sense to artificially create an inconsistency for that reason--though it might help if someone who has access to Triple Deluxe's internal data if other Waddle Dee variants end in "dy" as well. Both "Grandy" and "Grand Dee" are equally valid romanizations and the latter gives a much clearer idea of what this enemy actually is. --YFJ (talk · edits) 03:38, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
Going to agree with Superbound; I mentioned before that this would be a better case of using the internal data to stay consistent with the translation of the name. One thing to note is that, as AdieuLain mentioned, "Grand Dee" in Japanese would be "Gurandodi", so it's closer to "Grandy" when translated as well ("Grandee" would also work). "Grand Dee" makes more sense as a name, but it's also more speculative, versus the "Grandy" data that confirms how the developers intended to write it in English. (Note that other internal data uses the officially translated names where possible, i.e. they're "Waddle Dee" and not "Wadorudi".) So I oppose the move.
