This article is about Waddle Dees who swing on ropes. For Waddle Dees in a general context, see Waddle Dee.

Swinging Waddle Dee[Japanese title] is an enemy that first appeared in Kirby Super Star Ultra. This enemy is a Waddle Dee who is swinging from a rope in a back and forth motion. In Kirby Super Star Ultra and Kirby's Return to Dream Land, this motion is typically parallel to Kirby's plane of operation, but in Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Kirby: Planet Robobot, Swinging Waddle Dees can swing in perpendicular instead, coming in and out of the background.

Swinging Waddle Dee's rope can be cut using any Copy Ability that can cut ropes in other contexts, like a String Platform. This will cause the swinging Waddle Dee to fall to the floor, then start walking as normal. Even without such an ability, however, Swinging Waddle Dee can still be defeated by attacking the Waddle Dee directly, and can still be inhaled. Waddle Doo can also be seen swinging from a rope occasionally.

Swinging Waddle Dee was originally created for Kirby Super Star, but goes unused in that game, even though Swinging Waddle Doo made its debut there.

Game appearancesEdit

Kirby Super Star UltraEdit

Swinging Waddle Dee makes its first appearance in Revenge of the King, appearing in Illusion Islands and The Revenge. Notably, Swinging Waddle Doo appeared in Kirby Super Star in The Great Cave Offensive, but not Swinging Waddle Dee.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land DeluxeEdit

Swinging Waddle Dee debuted in 3D in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, where it now swings from a rope made of twine rather than the old ball-composed chain. The rope can be cut using the appropriate Copy Ability, causing Swinging Waddle Dee to fall to the ground and become a normal Waddle Dee.

Swinging Waddle Dees appear only in two stages in the game; those being Onion Ocean - Stage 1 and White Wafers - Stage 1.

Kirby: Triple DeluxeEdit

Swinging Waddle Dee returns in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, now with the ability to swing backward and forward relative to the stage walkways. It only appears in two stages: Fine Fields - Stage 1 and Fine Fields - Stage 6 EX.

Kirby: Planet RobobotEdit

Swinging Waddle Dee is not easy to find in this game; only appearing in Resolution Road - Stage 4 and Rhythm Route - Stage 5.
