The Star Rod is the power source to the Fountain of Dreams. Its first and main appearance is in Kirby's Adventure. It is the first Final Weapon of the Kirby series. It is a white rod encircled by red stripes with a glowing star on the tip. The Star Rod fires smaller stars to attack. According to the manual for Kirby's Adventure, the star on the tip of the Star Rod is said to be a star fragment that landed in Dream Land in the distant past.

Nightmare appearing on the Fountain of Dreams after Kirby returns the Star Rod

In the backstory for Kirby's Adventure and its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, the Star Rod was stolen by King Dedede, who broke it into seven pieces. He kept one piece for himself and gave the remaining pieces to each one of the six bosses. Kirby goes on an adventure to recover the pieces and repair the broken Star Rod.

After going through seven levels and defeating six bosses, Kirby faces King Dedede at the Fountain of Dream. Once Kirby defeats Dedede, he puts the Star Rod back onto the Fountain. He realizes that King Dedede did not have bad intent and that he was trying to hide the Star Rod from the Nightmare.

When they are discovered by the Nightmare, King Dedede inhales both Kirby and the Star Rod and sends him off to fight Nightmare. During the battle, Kirby must use the Star Rod as a weapon against Nightmare. The Star Rod can shoot out smaller stars to attack Nightmare, who eventually gets defeated.

At the end of each level in Milky Way Wishes, as well as in the opening cut-scene, the Star Rod can be seen in the background on the Fountain of Dreams.

Super Smash Bros. series

In the Super Smash Bros. series, the Star Rod appears as an item players can use in battle. Here, it can be used either to hit the opponent directly, or to shoot stars at the opponent. In contrast to the item's infinite power in the Kirby games, the Star Rod only has enough power in it to fire 16 stars. After all 16 stars are used, the item can still be used to strike opponents, but can no longer fire stars. Also, when the item is used by Captain Falcon, the Star Rod releases five stars at once, and if used by Sheik, it fires two.
