All of the food in peaceful Dream Land has been stolen! This must be the work of King Dedede!

Spring Breeze is a main game in Kirby Super Star and its remake. It is essentially a remake of Kirby's Dream Land, albeit with some changes. It is the first mode playable, and is designed to introduce new players to the game. For example, the first level starts out with a tall cliff that can't be passed with a simple jump. Kirby needs to fly over it, teaching the unknown reader how to use the Hover technique. The first two Copy Abilities Kirby can get are Beam and Cutter, two of the most basic and common abilities throughout the series. Spring Breeze has four stages, each with a boss at the end. Mid-Bosses - namely Poppy Bros. Sr., Mr. Frosty, and Kracko Jr. - are also encountered, one being found in each stage apart from the final one.

Plot

King Dedede has stolen all the food in Dream Land for an unknown reason, prompting Kirby to set out towards the King's castle on Mt. Dedede to get it back. Along the way, he must fight Dedede's minions and recover the stars they are guarding. After eventually defeating King Dedede in his castle and retrieving the fourth and final star, Kirby uses the power of the stars he has obtained to inflate to an enormous size, becoming bigger than the castle itself and carrying it all over Dream Land, dropping the food back in its rightful place. Although Kirby eventually deflates to his normal size again, the four stars keep the castle in the air as a crowd of grateful citizens cheers for Kirby.

Differences from Kirby's Dream Land

Although Spring Breeze is in many ways based on Kirby's Dream Land, a number of changes have been made from the original game:

  • Castle Lololo has been mostly removed, although parts of it were merged into Float Islands. Lololo and Lalala are now the bosses of the aforementioned stage, replacing Kabula, who was also removed.
  • Copy Abilities, which were entirely absent from the original game, have been added.
  • Various types of enemies have been removed, while others were added.
  • Kirby Super Star's gameplay mechanics are now used:
    • Kirby can now Dash, Guard, Slide, and use the Water Gun and Suppin Beam.
    • Kirby now possesses a life meter instead of discrete life bars; enemies likewise possess health rather than being defeated instantly by all attacks.
    • Kirby can be assisted by Helpers.
  • Various stage design changes were made, mainly resulting in considerably smaller, less complex stages.
  • Mt. Dedede is now no longer a boss-rush style stage, instead, Kirby immediately fights King Dedede.
  • The graphical fidelity and sprite/background detail has been greatly improved (including adding colTemplate:Our), as Super Star and Super Star Ultra are on more powerful consoles, the SNES and DS, respectively.

Trivia

  • Revenge of the King in Kirby Super Star Ultra is similar to Spring Breeze, but much harder.
  • Although Dedede supposedly stole all the food in Dream Land, plenty of food items can still be found throughout the stages.
  • Several characters from the Super Mario series can be seen in the audience during the fight with King Dedede.
