A Sparkling Star,[1] also known as a Twinkle Star,[2] is a magical item that is collected at the end of each level in Kirby's Dream Land. There are five of them in total — one held by each Boss — and they hold the power to distribute food among the people of Dream Land.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby's Dream Land[edit]
In Kirby's debut title, King Dedede and his goons come down to Dream Land from Mt. Dedede and steal the Sparkling Stars from the sky — robbing its denizens of their power source[3] — as well as all of their food. Without them, the Dream Landers are unable to collect more food,[4] and begin to starve, prompting Kirby to go and get them back.
At the end of each level, Kirby battles a Boss, who drops one of the stars upon defeat. After besting King Dedede, Kirby is able to collect the last one, and he uses them to turn himself into a giant hot air balloon, and carry Dedede's castle — along with the food inside — back to Dream Land. From there, it can be presumed that the stars were returned to their rightful position.
Kirby's Block Ball[edit]
Once again, King Dedede stole the five Sparkling Stars and hid them in his castle. After defeating King Dedede, Kirby collects the Sparkling Stars and uses them to break the castle down to uncover the fountain that it had been built over.
