The Smash ability is one which allows Kirby to perform a multitude of attacks which were featured in the Super Smash Bros. series. It is obtained by swallowing Master Hand or Crazy Hand. It can perform all of his Special Moves, save for Inhale since Kirby can naturally do this. Instead, it can perform two moves from Fighter. Next to Master, it is the second most powerful ability of the game. Its name comes from the "Smash" part of the series's name. This ability first appeared in Kirby & the Amazing Mirror and appeared again in the New Challenge Stages mode in Kirby's Dream Collection.

Smash would later return with an updated moveset in Kirby: Planet Robobot, unlocked by scanning Kirby's Smash Bros. series amiibo into the game or finding a Copy Pedestal in certain hidden locations. The move here is formally known as Smash Bros.

Trivia

  • When using the Hammer on the ground, Kirby swings it upward rather than downward, to mimic the way he attacks in the Smash Bros. series.
  • Kirby retains his Hammer Spin in more recent move-sets, despite not using that move in Brawl or Smash 4.
  • The shield in the Planet Robobot version of the ability resembles the bubble shields used in Super Smash Bros, though in this case, it won't break.
    • Additionally, the Smash Kick and Hammer Flip can be charged for even more damage and/or reach, just like in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U.
