Shiver Star is the fifth planet out of seven visited by Kirby and Ribbon in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. The planet's surface is covered with snow, with an underlayer of ice that can be seen through. However, it is not completely frozen solid as there are patches of holes in the ice which Kirby can go into in order to get a Crystal Shard in stage 5-1. Stage 5-2 resides on the clouds, which is reached when Kirby is shot to the sky by a Zebon. In this stage, Kirby has to dodge flying enemies, electrical shocks, and the jaws of Maws. Once Kirby's sky adventure is over, he discovers stage 5-3, a twelve-story shopping mall filled the with enemies on every floor. Kirby must find a way to survive each floor and climb to the top to reach the end of the stage. It should be noted that each floor has different types of enemies; such as electrical or spike, and that they do not appear on other floors; except for Glom, which appears on two floors. The second to last stage is 5-4, an underground factory with many Wall Shotzos and vertically-moving walls which try to crush Kirby. He must carefully navigate through the factory and past the traps inside in order to move on to the planet boss, HR-H.

Like in all worlds of The Crystal Shards, the first four stages within the Shiver Star hide three Crystal Shards, while the final stage rewards only one after the defeat of the boss. Nevertheless, all shards within one level need not to be collected before Kirby is granted access to the next; Kirby must simply complete the level.

Stages

Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. Defeating HR-H and HR-E is necessary to move on to Ripple Star. For more information about a particular stage, click on the link to the stage's page in the table. For a full guide on how to obtain the Crystal Shards, see the Crystal Shard page.

Boss: HR-H/HR-E

HR-H appears on the scene to dispose of the pink threat.

Kirby finds himself on a thin platform out in a dark cityscape. Here, the giant robot HR-H appears and attacks. It will either attempt to strike at Kirby with both arms at once, creating inhalable rocks on impact, or it will shoot out missiles , then attempt to swipe with one of its arms. The missiles can also be inhaled, but they don't provide any abilities when swallowed.

After this form is defeated, HR-H falls back, then lands on the platform as HR-E. Here, it chases Kirby down, and attempts to snip at him with its pincer arms. It will also shoot missiles in this form, and attempt to land on Kirby. When it is defeated in this form, HR-E powers down and stops moving, releasing the crystal shard for Kirby to collect.

Ending Cutscene

Out in the snow, the crystal opens up to reveal the last world - Ribbon's home of Ripple Star. Seeing the sorry state it is in causes Ribbon to despair, but she is reassured by the rest of the party. Kirby calls for everyone to go in, and runs forward, but trips and falls to the floor. Everyone else tramples him in the process. Ribbon then has to carry the battered Kirby through the portal.

Trivia

File:ShiverStarEarth.jpg
Earth's likeness seen on the Shiver Star.
  • The connection between the Shiver Star and Earth in terms of appearance has been quite the popular topic of conversation within the Kirby fandom, and rightly so, as one can see from the image apparent outlines of Earth's continents in white upon the face of the Shiver Star. However, it is unclear what the developers of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards had in mind when creating such a star in Earth's likeness.
  • The stage select theme for Shiver Star would later be reused in the Last Land hub in New Challenge Stages.
