"Dark Meta Knight"[Japanese title] is Dark Meta Knight's boss battle theme, first appearing in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.

CompositionEdit

The four Kirbys are up against Dark Meta Knight.

The original version from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror is composed by either Hironobu Inagaki or Atsuyoshi Isemura, sound designers from Dimps Corporation.

The track is composed in 6/8 time signature, with a BPM of over 200 providing a short and intense theme. The track opens with a set of menacing chords. From here, the bassline starts descending continually from a D-flat/C-sharp, snapping back upward just after the start of each measure. Simultaneously, the ARR1 synth slides between two haunting tones. After this, a different version of the intro chords play, with each phrase separated by a measure of the bassline on its own, which is now descending various octaves. Finally, a short build-up brings the track back to the ARR1 slide.

Game appearancesEdit

Kirby & The Amazing MirrorEdit

In Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, the theme plays when fighting Dark Meta Knight in both Radish Ruins (as ???, disguised as Meta Knight) and the Dimension Mirror. It can be found as Music 13 in the Sound Player.

Kirby: Triple DeluxeEdit

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Dark Meta Knight returns in Dededetour! and The True Arena, named Dark Meta Knight's Revenge. While "Revenge of the Enemy" is used in the first phase of the fight, his own theme plays in the second phase, now rearranged by Jun Ishikawa and titled "Shadow Strike". This version utilizes modern sound effects, featuring keyboard, brass instrumentation and electric guitar. It can be found as Track 123 in the game's Jukebox.

Kirby Star AlliesEdit

Dark Meta Knight appears as a playable Dream Friend in Kirby Star Allies. When he is summoned by the Dream Rod or when he is selected on the title screen of Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go!, an arrangement of the introduction of "Dark Meta Knight" is used for his jingle. This version is arranged by Yuuta Ogasawara, and can be found as Track 136 in the Jukebox as of version 4.0.0. On Kirby Star Allies: The Original Soundtrack, it is named ダークメタナイト…現る! (Dark Meta Knight… Cometh!).

Kirby Fighters 2Edit

In Kirby Fighters 2, parts of "Dark Meta Knight" are incorporated into Shadow Kirby's Very Hard/Final Chapter battle theme, which is a medley of Kirby & The Amazing Mirror music. It is titled 決戦!やんちゃマインドを超えてゆけ (Decisive Battle! Overcome the Naughty Mind) and was arranged by Yuki Shimooka.[1]

Kirby's Dream BuffetEdit

"Decisive Battle! Overcome the Naughty Mind" from Kirby Fighters 2 returns in Kirby's Dream Buffet as one of the themes that can play in Races and the Free Rolling mode. It is automatically unlocked if the player has a save data from Kirby Fighters 2 on their Switch and completes their first Gourmet Grand Prix.

Other appearancesEdit

The theme was performed live at the Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Festival as part of "The Knights' Revenge Medley", along with "Revenge of Meta Knight: Title", "VS. Meta Knight", "The Greatest Warrior in the Galaxy", and "Morpho Knight".
