Rising Break is a notable attack associated with the Fighter ability. It involves the user performing a powerful uppercut with their arm while jumping upward in an arc. This move is capable of dragging opponents caught in the attack up with it, and deals a considerable amount of damage. It can also be used in the air to gain additional height.

Overview

Rising Break can be performed by both Fighter Kirby and by Knuckle Joe (enemy or ally). It first appeared alongside the ability in Kirby Super Star, and is performable in every game that features the Fighter ability, regardless of other changes to the move-set. To execute this attack, the player simply has to hold up on the D-pad/circle pad/analog stick and then hold down the attack button until the move begins.

Kirby: Right Back at Ya!

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, this move is often performed by Kirby when he has the Fighter ability, shouting the name of the attack as he uses it. Rising Break is usually used as the finishing blow on monsters.

Super Smash Bros. series

In the Super Smash Bros. games starting with Brawl, Rising Break can be utilized by Knuckle Joe as an Assist Trophy. He has a chance to use this attack after his third or fourth Vulcan Jab as a finisher, and will send opponents flying almost directly upward with a lightning effect for 20% base damage (as of Ultimate).

Trivia

  • Rising Break appears to be heavily inspired by the Shoryuken attack from the Street Fighter series.
  • Rising Break is localized with the thunder element in various languages. This is possibly because both ライジン and 雷神 ("thunder god") can be read as raijin in Japanese.
