Red Canyon is the fifth level in Kirby's Dream Land 2 and belongs to the Rainbow Islands. As the name implies, the level is set in a dry red-colored canyonland area. The boss of this level is Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright.

Cut-scene

Coo is sleeping on a rocky outcropping, as Rick and Kirby roll on rugged terrain toward him using the Stone ability. When Rick crashes into the wall, it causes Coo's outcropping to crumble on Kirby's head. Kirby transforms into stone form just in time to avoid being hurt, as Coo flies down onto Kirby's head after being startled awake. The two animal friends sigh as Kirby returns to normal.

Stage 1

Kirby and Rick navigate the crumbling bridges in Stage 1.

Room 1 - The stage begins in a flat plain, as a Bouncy Ty approaches Kirby. The terrain gets decidedly more treacherous as the path continues. Along the way, a side-passage can be found which leads to a room where the Mid-Boss Master Green can be fought for the Spark ability and the freeing of an Animal Friend. The path continues past perilous crumbling platforms with items that Kirby can collect if he is brave.

Room 2 - The door leads to a long rocky tunnel, patrolled by Gordos and Flamers. A secret chamber can be accessed in this room, which contains two Propellers, an Energy Drink and a 1-Up. The main path snakes around, then down a very perilous shaft filled with Gordos and crumbling platforms, then out into the open air, where Kirby will have to contend with more flying menaces amidst skinny platforms and a doorway in mid-air.

Room 3 - This room takes place in a tunnel with Voids intermittent. Kirby has to dodge more Gordos, Shotzos and other things as he works to reach the stage exit on the other side. A 1-Up can be collected near the beginning in case tragedy were to befall our pink hero. A Blade guards the exit, the first of its kind that Kirby encounters.

Stage 2

Kirby and Coo fly up the tunnel steps in Stage 2.

Room 1 - The stage begins in the highlands, with columns to stand on in the background. The path continues to the right up and down hills, across bridges and down steppes to reach the door to the next area.

Room 2 - In the woods, Kirby faces off against the Mid-Boss Waiu for the first time. Defeating him yields the Cutter ability and frees an animal friend from its bag, which defaults to Coo. In the next area, Kirby will have to traverse a quickly auto-scrolling tunnel filled with enemies. Items can be collected along the way if Kirby is quick. At the end of the long and dangerous road, the stage exit can be found encased in Star Blocks. Some 1-Ups can be collected on the other side of the blocks, but collecting them may be a futile endeavor, especially if Kirby has no ability.

Stage 3

Kirby and Kine swim under a floating rock isle in Stage 3.

Room 1 - The stage begins with three doorways in a small area. Each doorway is situated in a different environment. Taking the left door leads to a room where Kirby must contend with Masher. Defeating him reveals Kine from the bag, and allows Kirby to move on to the next room. The middle room is much the same, but has Butch guarding Coo. The right room has Blade guarding Rick.

Room 2 - All three paths lead to this room, which continues to the right past bridges and cliffs hanging over voids. The door to the next room can be found on a rather skinny platform to the right.

Room 3 - The door leads to another open area with plenty of water amidst islands. This leads to a tunnel which bears a side-passage leading to a dark room with three ability-providing enemies. Defeating these enemies causes another door to appear which leads to a room with Small Stars and 1-Ups. Taking the door that appears will only allow Kirby to collect the stars, but a hidden path can be found to get the 1-Ups instead. Back on the main path, the tunnel continues until a door is reached at the end of it.

Room 4 - The door leads to a rocky area leading upward past several enemies. The stage exit can be found at the top of the area, guarded by Gordos and Scarfies.

Stage 4

Kirby deals with a horde of Bronto Burts in Stage 4.

Room 1 - The stage begins in an open canyonland area with carefully-balanced rock platforms and flying enemies about. The door to the next area can be found on the rightmost platform.

Room 2 - Kirby faces off in a room with Captain Stitch, the last of the Mid-Bosses to be introduced in Dream Land 2. Defeating him yields the Needle ability, and free the animal friend from the bag (defaults to Rick). From there, the next area is a very windy path with loads of enemies in the way. A secret room can be found along the way which contains a lot of spikes and three Small Stars.

Room 3 - This room takes place in an underwater tunnel with loads of current pipes. This then leads to a dry tunnel with pipes that create wind currents. At the end, two Gordos guard the stage exit.

Stage 5

Kirby and Rick ascend the scrolling vertical rise in Stage 5.

Room 1 - The stage begins in a rocky tunnel leading up and around past Sparkys and other miscreants, in and out of the water. Two doors can be found t the end of the path, right next to each-other. The left door leads to a dark room which contains a Blipper and a Maxim Tomato. This room has a hidden door which leads to an island area filled with Small Stars

Room 2 - The right door leads to a vertical tunnel which auto-scrolls upward. Kirby will have to be quick to not get caught by the Void at the bottom as the tunnel is eaten. Along the way, items can be collected, but enemies must also be avoided. At the top, there are two doors, one above the other. The upper door leads to a room containing a Rainbow Drop, which is blocked off by blocks that can only be destroyed with the Spark ability. Even at this, it might be tricky to deal with all the blocks without the help of Rick as well.

Room 3 - The lower door leads to an area with a long drop past Star Block formations and enemies. The stage exit can be found at the bottom, among rocky outcroppings.

Boss: Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright

File:Red Canyon Boss.jpg
Kirby contends with the bothersome celestial bodies once more.

The fight with this tag-team boss duo takes place on a flat arena. This fight is much the same as in Kirby's Adventure, but with a few caveats. Firstly, each foe takes 4 Star Bullets to defeat, and secondly, the two can perform a special eclipse attack, where Kirby has to hide in the shaded area, or take damage.

Defeating these two opens the path to the sixth island, Cloudy Park.
