Rainbow Resort - Stage 7 is the final stage of Rainbow Resort in Kirby's Adventure and its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. This stage pits Kirby against King Dedede, whom Kirby must defeat to obtain the final piece of the Star Rod and advance to the final level; The Fountain of Dreams.

OverviewEdit

Main article: King Dedede

This fight takes place in a simple flat arena in front of the iconic Fountain of Dreams, albeit still missing its Star Rod. Kirby appears up in the air on the left, with his foe King Dedede down below on the right. King Dedede's battle strategy is nearly identical to how it was in the previous game - Kirby's Dream Land, though he now sports the ability to Hover by taking in air and chase Kirby around while puffed up. Aside from this, his attacks include swings from his hammer, attempting to inhale Kirby, using his Head Slide, and performing his famous Super Dedede Jump. His hammer attacks and jump create Dropped Stars upon execution, which Kirby can inhale and spit back at the king to counter.

Once King Dedede is defeated, he stands shocked for a moment, and then crashes to the ground, his foot twitching. Unlike the previous boss fights, Kirby is not seen collecting the Star Rod piece, but in the next level, the intro cutscene begins with Kirby possessing the fully formed Star Rod, implying it was reassembled off-screen.

Differences between versionsEdit

Unlike the other boss fights, there are a few key differences between Kirby's Adventure and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land aside from graphical changes. In Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, King Dedede is made much larger, and somewhat slower, which can be seen to make the fight easier in some respects than the Kirby's Adventure counterpart, although he does take up more of the screen, making his attacks larger as well.

In addition, the background music changes from the standard boss fight theme from Kirby's Adventure to a new track in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, based on the Gourmet Race theme used in Super Smash Bros Melee in the Fountain of Dreams stage.

LegacyEdit

This particular battle would be later referenced directly by the Kirby Fighters Deluxe stage Fountain of Dreams, where Kirby has to contend with Team DDD, consisting of a bunch of tiny King Dededes followed by the real King Dedede and two 'Combo' Dededes. When facing Team DDD 64, the stage takes on its appearance from Nightmare in Dream Land as well.

This battle was also the first one to show King Dedede's ability to hover, a technique he would retain for the remainder of the series. Later sources - such as King Dedede's trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee - state that he trained to be able to do this after being defeated by Kirby in Kirby's Dream Land.
