"Rainbow Falls", named "Theme from Rainbow Falls" in the British English version, is a theme from Kirby's Epic Yarn and its remake that plays in the stage with the same name, as well as Sweets Park. It was composed by Tomoya Tomita.[1]
Composition[edit]
"Rainbow Falls" is a cheerful orchestrated theme in B-flat major and 4/4. It features a double intro: the first is a violin, piccolo and glockenspiel trio in two descending scale-like passages with dotted rhythm, while the second serves as its resolution in a tonic seventh chord. For the carefree first section, they are joined by a subtle piano accompaniment, as well as a clarinet counterpoint. The melody itself is a lively iteration of "Big-Bean Vine". A harp glissando leads to a horn solo with violin and piccolo responses similar to the intro. As these remarks transform into triplets, the horn solo repeats with support from the piano. The second section peaks at a syncopated solo of muted trumpets, which resolves similarly to the intro.
The third section entirely reprises the third, and the first part of the foirth imitates the second while omitting the violin and piccolo responses. It modulates to B major (C-flat major), where new minor harmonies add to its color and grandeur. The violin rejoins and seconds the motif, and a short alteration of the trumpet section leads to the conclusion. A tutti in this key plays a climactic variation on the first section with harp glissandi and bassoon remarks, then a truncated second section with glockenspieal responses, and a triumphant resolution of the first section with an added syncopated trombone. The horn, harp and trumpets continue with a transition combining traits from both sections and help modulate back to B-flat major for the track to loop.
