"Project K-64"[derived from Japanese] is the staff credits theme from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. It was composed by Hirokazu Ando.[1]

Composition[edit]

A self-portrait in the adventure's album.

"Project K-64" is a lively theme in Mioxlydian G and 4/4. Its light brass and percussion intro sets the syncopated accompaniment in motion. Fitting with the game's theming, the lead instruments are crystal-like bells, which play a descending melody in parallel thirds and sixths. The melody is further developed by new instruments, including new syncopations and passing notes. The second section drops the brass and features a smoother and higher-pitched natural G major melody in wave-like motion. The third section repeats the first with minor changes in instrumentation and new counterpoints, while the fourth is transposed up to B-flat major with brief violin remarks, adding to its delicate character. The original melody continues in B-flat major but soon fades away.
