Poppy Bros. Jr., also spelt Poppy Bros Jr. (singular: Poppy Bro Jr.[1]) is a commonly-reoccurring enemy in the Kirby series, first appearing in Kirby's Dream Land. He is a small humanoid figure who wears a clown suit with a cap similar to that of Sword Kirby's, though Poppy Bros. Jr.'s outfit is usually a pale blue in colTemplate:Or.

Poppy Bros. Jr.'s role has varied greatly throughout the Kirby series. In his oldest appearances, he provided no Copy Ability and was typically seen riding on Grizzos or balancing on Apples and Maxim Tomatoes. Starting with Kirby Super Star (and perhaps following in the footsteps of his older relative, Poppy Bros. Sr.), Poppy Bros. Jr. could be seen tossing bombs, and providing the Bomb ability when swallowed. This game also had Poppy Bros. Jr. throw boomerangs, with this case resulting in Kirby gaining the Cutter ability from him instead. In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards and every subsequent 3-D Kirby game, Poppy Bros. Jr. consistently provides the Bomb ability, having become the mascot for said ability ever since.

Game Appearances

Kirby's Dream Land

Poppy Bros. Jr. first appeared in this title. His main job is to ride on Apples and Grizzos, though he can be seen on his own. He is worth 400 points when defeated.

Kirby's Adventure

Poppy Bros. Jr. appears in this title, and can be seen balancing on Maxim Tomatoes as well as apples. He provides no ability if swallowed.

Kirby's Dream Land 2

Poppy Bros. Jr. reprises his role in this game, acting the same as he did in Adventure.

Kirby's Block Ball

Poppy Bros. Jr. appears as the pre-boss enemy in Stage 4 and is worth 5000 points on defeat.

Kirby Super Star/Template:KSSU

This was the first game in the series to give Poppy Bros. Jr. weapons to use against Kirby. He can be seen with either a bomb or a boomerang, providing the Bomb ability in the former case and the Cutter ability in the latter. Poppy Bros. Jr. can also come in many different tunic colTemplate:Ors.

Poppy Bros. Jr. can be called as a Helper, gaining the move-set of Bomb Kirby and an Infinity Jump. He also appears as one of the selectable characters in Helper to Hero.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

Poppy Bros. Jr. appears in this title, though he behaves like he did in Dream Land 2 and still provides no ability when swallowed.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

This was the first game in the series to have Poppy Bros. Jr. consistently give Kirby the Bomb ability when swallowed. His bombs can also be swallowed for this ability.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble

Poppy Bros. Jr. appears in this game, though not in his usual role. He rides along a bouncy ball in half-pipe areas moving back and forth, and will bounce Kirby if they collide. There are two varieties, with blue Poppys traveling in a smaller arc, and red ones covering the whole width of the half-pipe.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Poppy Bros. Jr. appears in this title, once again providing the Bomb ability consistently. He comes in various sizes, and tosses his bomb in a consistent arc at Kirby and his friends.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe & Kirby: Planet Robobot

Poppy Bros. Jr. acts much as in Return to Dream Land, though now, he gains the ability to toss bombs between foreground and background.

Kirby Star Allies

Poppy Bros. Jr. gains his biggest role in this title, as well as a re-design. He is the first enemy who Kirby befriends, appearing in the cut-scene as the enemy Kirby first charms using the Friend Heart. As an ally, Poppy Bros. Jr. has all of the same moves as Bomb Kirby, an Infinity Jump, and the ability to receive a Power Effect.

Poppy Bros. Jr. also has a slot in Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go!, with his adventure given the name 'Guest Star Poppy Bros. Jr. Bombs Away!', and can be selected in The Ultimate Choice.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U trophy description

"Sometimes riding on Grizzos, other times balancing on apples or Maxim Tomatoes, this little clown clearly has some skills. Unfortunately, his job isn't to make people laugh--it's to get in Kirby's way. As you might expect from the "Jr." in his name, there's also a Poppy Bros. Sr., and he's a slightly bigger nuisance."

Trivia

File:Picture 4.png
Poppy Bros. Jr. in Helper to Hero.
  • Poppy Bros. Jr.'s alternative colTemplate:Oration in Kirby Super Star Ultra's Helper To Hero game is a purple suit and hat.
  • Poppy Bros. Jr.'s bomb (in hand) blows up in 5 seconds unless thrown.
  • Poppy Bros. Jr. initially had different eyes, which resembled black dots with wedges in the middle like a more classic cartoon. In newer titles, his eyes look more like Kirby's, though they are slightly wider.
  • Poppy Bros. Jr. is the first Friend that Kirby makes in Kirby Star Allies. His befriending is meant to teach the unknown reader how to use the mechanic.
