This article is about the first level of Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. For the planet in a more general context, see Popstar. For the second level of Kirby Star Allies, see World of Miracles - Planet Popstar.

Pop Star is the first level in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, and the home world of Kirby. It is distinguished by its verdant forests and grasslands, and its ancient castles. Ribbon finds herself here after Dark Matter shatters the Crystal, and happens to bump into Kirby, who agrees to help her get the shards back. Its name is likely a pun on "pop star", a type of musical celebrity, just as the following world, Rock Star, is a pun on "rock star".

Overview

Being the first level, Pop Star is a relatively simple affair, consisting of only three primary stages and a fourth boss stage against a familiar wooded adversary. Unlike in subsequent levels, each primary stage has Kirby fighting a mid-boss at the end with cut-scenes spaced between them, each foe being a friend who has been possessed by Dark Matter. Once these are defeated, they will be freed from Dark Matter's influence and will join Kirby on his quest. Given that these mid-bosses become friends, Kirby is not able to fight them again if he revisits the stages they appear in.

Each stage takes place in a temperate green climate, whether it be an open grassland or a deep forest. In stage 2, Kirby has ready access to every base ability in the game, making it a useful place to obtain and/or try out the Power Combos. The third stage has Kirby delving into one of King Dedede's spare castles in search of the crystal shards. The shards themselves are usually either out in the open or barricaded behind a basic obstacle. The third shard in each standard stage is held by the character Kirby must fight.

Stages

Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. Defeating Whispy Woods is necessary to move on to Rock Star. For more information about a particular stage, click on the link to the stage's page in the table. For a full guide on how to obtain the Crystal Shards, see the Crystal Shard page.

Stage Mid-Bosses Notes
Stage 1 Big N-Z, Waddle Doo
Stage 2 Big Bouncy, Adeleine
Stage 3 King Dedede
Stage 4 N/A Completing this stage unlocks Rock Star.

Ending cutscene

Kirby and co. find themselves out in the grassy field with the growing crystal floating in front of them. It shakes, then transforms into a portal, revealing the next world - Rock Star - where more of the shards were scattered. Ribbon flies immediately into the portal, prompting the rest to follow. Once all of them are in, the portal closes, and the Crystal flies off into space toward the planet in question.
