Point Stars are basic items which can appear in stages. They will confer an extra life upon Kirby if enough are collected. Point Stars have taken on a number of different appearances through the series, but in the modern titles (starting with Kirby's Return to Dream Land), they are simple 5-pointed stars which either float or fall to the ground and spin slowly in place. They can be found out in the open, inside Treasure Chests, or from defeated enemies and destroyed objects.

Overview

The number collected to earn a 1-Up varies depending on the game: seven in Dream Land 2, 30 in Dream Land 3 and Kirby 64, 50 in Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, and 100 in the most recent games, starting with Kirby: Canvas Curse.

Starting with Kirby's Return to Dream Land, point stars come in various colTemplate:Ours and sizes, with each type worth a different number of points:

  • Yellow - 1 point
  • Green - 5 points
  • Red - 10 points
  • Blue - 30 points

Blue stars have additional decorations on them, being given a white line drawn on its surface which traces its shape partway in from the edge.

In Kirby's Dream Land 2, they are called Small Stars, and in Kirby's Dream Land 3 they are called Star Pieces. Strangely enough, both games re-use the exact same sprite for these objects, despite being vastly different in graphical style otherwise.

Bonus Chance

The object of the Bonus Chances in Kirby's Dream Land 2 is to collect the point stars that appear from the Bosses of that game. Collecting them all will result in a 'perfect' performance, which will award 1-Ups to Kirby.

Aesthetic changes

In certain Kirby titles, the shape of point stars can change when certain Extra Games are played. Examples include the following:

Despite the aesthetic differences, they are still worth the same amount and still serve the same purpose.
