The Ordeal theme[conjectural title] is one of the main motifs of Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash, heard during Ordeal Quests. It was composed by Hirokazu Ando.[1]

Composition[edit]

Team Kirby's ordeal.

The "Ordeal" theme (as heard in its original orchestrated version) is a dramatic and energetic theme in A minor. The intro immediately sets the pace and tone with a variation of this theme's upcoming melody. As the intro motif transforms into a piano accompaniment, the brass melody itself appears. Its intonations are similar to the second section of "Green Greens", albeit with more drastic falls and rises in its latter half. The melody proceeds more similarly to the intro, played by a flute and the previous brass. The second section brings in a minor version of the "Town" motif, played by a violin and trumpet in succession. It ends in the style of the later "Town" themes before moving on to an extended, climactic intro. The track loops after this.

Game appearances[edit]

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe[edit]

In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, two different "Ordeal" themes appear:

  • "Save the Kingdom! Ordeal":[derived from Japanese] orchestral version, plays during the Kracko, Whispy Woods and Pyribbit Ordeals and the Tougher Quests against Blocky, Miasmoros, Mr. Frosty, Kibble Blade, King Doo, Ice Dragon, Telepathos, Gigant Edge and Bonkers.
  • "Save This World! Ordeal":[derived from Japanese] electronic version, plays during the Tougher Quests against Whispy Woods, Pyribbit and Kracko.

The "Ordeal" motif is also present in most of the "Town" themes from this game.

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

In Kirby Star Allies, both themes return for specific battles in The Ultimate Choice:

  • "Save the Kingdom! Ordeal": battle music for Kracko on Soul Melter. This could be a reference to how Kracko is the first ordeal boss in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe.
  • "Save This World! Ordeal": battle music for Twin Kracko and Parallel Twin Kracko on Soul Melter and Soul Melter EX. This could also be a reference to Kracko being one of the last bosses to be fought in the Empyrean before the Decisive Battlefield is unlocked.

Super Kirby Clash[edit]

In Super Kirby Clash, the themes from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe are remixed. They appear in the following Story Quests:

Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

In Kirby Fighters 2, the Team Kirby Clash Deluxe version of "Save This World! Ordeal" plays in The Empyrean Battle Stage. A new remix can be unlocked for this stage at Fighters Rank 93.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, "Save This World! Ordeal" from Super Kirby Clash, named "Super Kirby Clash: Memorial Song 1" in-game, can be unlocked at Gourmet Rank 49 for use in Races and Free Rolling.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, the "Ordeal" motif plays in two tracks from Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler: "Mistilteinn, Tree Crown without a Ruler" and "Crossing into the Parallel with You", foreshadowing Magolor and the Gem Apple Tree sapling's fate.

Other appearances[edit]

Starting from Kirby Fighters 2, the Super Kirby Clash arrangement represents its game of origin in the Past Adventures menu.

The Super Kirby Clash arrangement of "Save This World! Ordeal" accompanies the game's Tetris 99 Maximus Cup, used when 50-11 players remain.
