Orange Ocean is the sixth level in Kirby's Adventure and its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. It contains seven regular stages, with a boss fight against Meta Knight at the end. The stages bear a largely oceanic theme, with lots of swimming sections, ships and shipyards, and a few iceberg areas in the later stages. This level's Arena contains Fire Lion, and the Museum contains the Wheel ability.

Intro cut-scene

The intro shows Kirby looking around with a spyglass on the edge of a wooden ship. He loses his balance and falls into the water, where a shark appears and starts chasing him. After Kirby frantically swims off-screen, he appears in the background, still trying to swim away from the shark.

The intro is the same in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, except now Kirby gains a pirate's hat.

Overview

Orange Ocean is one of the longer and harder levels in the game. Each stage revolves heavily around watery environments, with many tough enemies to contend with. The icy areas in later stages also naturally feature slippery platforms, which makes reacting to the quickly-moving enemies more difficult. Orange Ocean is also noteworthy for its numerous optional paths within its stages, including two optional mid-boss fights. Many of the puzzles which Kirby must solve to access the Big Switches are quite difficult, most notably the Fuse Cannon challenge in Stage 5.

Hub

Although the hub of Orange Ocean becomes quite large like the previous hubs, most of the doorways are kept near the bottom of the area, with a handful above being exclusively optional areas. Given the presence of a Big Switch in every normal stage, all optional rooms need to be unlocked using these. Pressing the Big Switch in Stage 1 opens up the Museum containing the Wheel ability. The Big Switch in Stage 2 unlocks the Arena which pits Kirby against Fire Lion. The Big Switch in Stage 3 unlocks the first sub-game (Crane Fever in Adventure, Bomb Rally in Nightmare in Dream Land). Pressing the Big Switch in Stage 4 unlocks the second sub-game (Egg Catcher in Adventure, Kirby's Air Grind in Nightmare in Dream Land). The Big Switch in Stage 5 unlocks the third sub-game of Quick Draw. Lastly, pressing the Big Switch in Stage 6 unlocks the warp room.

The hub opens up to a wide ocean view, backed on the left by the mountains of Yogurt Yard and on the right by a series of icebergs. In-between are some small islands and a few wooden ships.

Stages

Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. Clearing Stage 7 is necessary to move on to Rainbow Resort. For more information about a particular stage, click on the link to the stage's page in the table.

Trivia

  • This is the only level to have a Big Switch in every regular stage.
  • In Kirby's Adventure, there is an error in the intro cutscene. When Kirby loses his balance, two spyglasses can be seen briefly before the one on Kirby's eye disappears. This was fixed in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.
