Be careful. You can't get hurt, but don't get mad if you break stuff. It's not perfect, OK?
— In-game description

The Metal copy ability is a spiritual successor to the Stone ability introduced in Kirby: Squeak Squad. However, unlike the Stone power, Kirby can move around, jump (albeit much shorter jumps), and float. While Kirby is virtually invincible in this form, he cannot revert back to normal unless the copy ability is discarded. It can only be accessed by inhaling a Metalun, a Big Metalun or by touching a Copy Pedestal.
