Magman is the fiery, glob-like boss of Neo Star in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Magman mainly uses lava-based attacks, and can also summon Magoo and Burnis to attack Kirby.

Strategy

At the start of the battle, Magman resides in the background and can only be damaged when he attacks Kirby with lava pillars. These pillars are used in a variety of ways to manipulate the platforms Kirby is standing on, such as thrusting them at Kirby, pushing the platforms to the ceiling, and creating them right next to Kirby, where they curl downwards to the floor. During these attacks, small enemies called Magoo will appear from the lava. They can be used to obtain the Burning Copy Ability, or simply inhaled and spat back out to damage Magman. After the majority of the boss' health is drained, he will proceed to appear in the foreground and chase Kirby to a solid lava platform on the right. This is the only part of the battle where Magman can be directly attacked. During this phase, he no longer uses lava pillars, but instead tries new attacks that include disappearing underground and summoning Burnis, blowing fire blasts, and summoning falling rocks. Once Kirby defeats Magman, the latter will surrender a Crystal Shard that is used to advance to Shiver Star.

Trivia

  • Magman is very similar in shape to Sandman, a minor enemy in the game who can also sink into the ground.
