Lovely is an enemy and species of flower first appearing in Kirby Super Star. They have since reappeared in Kirby's Super Star Stacker and made their last appearance in the remake of their first appearance, Kirby Super Star Ultra. Additionally, she has appeared in the the anime as a monster. If Kirby approaches a Lovely, she will enclose her petals around him, similar to the way a venus fly trap engulfs their prey.

CharacteristicsEdit

Lovely's appearance is similar to a typical taraxacum, but she also appears to have white 'cheeks' (pink in the anime), glowing eyes and are always smiling. Lovely also has large, thick vines. These are used to capture prey, but additionally serve to prevent her from blowing away in the wind, or to prevent Kirby from inhaling her. She can still be defeated by Kirby's other attacks.

Game appearancesEdit

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star UltraEdit

Lovely makes her first appearance in Kirby Super Star and its remake Kirby Super Star Ultra, where she appears as a somewhat uncommon regular enemy in stages. Lovely sits in place (as she is unable to move from her starting position) and will attempt to strike Kirby using her head, swinging it forward like a flail. If Kirby is caught directly, he will be enveloped for a moment, then spat out, taking considerable damage. Lovely cannot be inhaled, and has a decent amount of health, but is easy enough to avoid or defeat in most circumstances. If Lovely is scanned using Copy, she grants no ability and is simply atomized. In Revenge of the King, Lovely is replaced by a stronger variant called Rosely.

A pair of Lovelies appear in the opening scene for Dyna Blade next to Kirby sleeping under a tree, and do not appear to be hostile towards him. When Dyna Blade passes by, they are knocked back by the strength of the gust and lose some of their petals.

In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Lovely also appears on a card in Kirby Card Swipe.

I found it! Finders keepers!
— Lovely's dialogue from Kirby Super Star Stacker (unofficial translation)

Lovely is the third opponent in the story mode for Kirby's Star Stacker. Kirby must challenge Lovely to a puzzle match in order to obtain a piece of Mr. Star that the flower had in her possession. Once Lovely has been beaten, it is shown in the next scene that Kirby and co. had flattened her.

Nothing you can do can keep me away from Whispy! Don't you get it?!
— Lovely in The Flower Plot

Lovely appears in the episode The Flower Plot. At first, she is simply a flower that grew near Whispy Woods' trunk. As she grows, Whispy becomes infatuated with her, giving her a name and protecting her from the elements. Learning of the flower and Whispy's love of her, Kirby, Tiff, and Tuff help Whispy name and shelter her, including shielding her from harsh weather. Upon learning of this flower and wanting revenge for the events of the prior episode Beware: Whispy Woods!, King Dedede conducts a plot to steal the flower and have Night Mare Enterprises transform her into a monster. They do this by abducting the flower using a smokescreen and then taking her to the Monster Delivery System in Castle Dedede.

Not knowing what had been done to the flower, Kirby and co. enter the castle, locate Lovely sitting in a flower pot, and take her back to Whispy. Once returned, Lovely reveals her face and charms Whispy further by speaking to him. Overnight, Lovely begins to sap Whispy's strength by tapping his roots, meanwhile growing in size. Suspecting foul play, Kirby and co. attempt to dig Lovely out without Whispy noticing, but Lovely sees them and alerts Whispy, causing the old tree to apprehend them with his roots. Lovely then makes her move and turns into a giant monster, sporting razor-sharp petals which she can throw at will.

After thwarting King Dedede and snapping Whispy back to his senses, Kirby inhales one of Lovely's razor petals and gains the Cutter ability. Kirby finishes off the giant flower using a Cutter boomerang. As she falls, Lovely promises to be reborn one day, but not as a monster, later being replaced by an entire patch of small faceless Lovely flowers.

TriviaEdit

  • Lovely, surprisingly enough, is able to operate underwater, though she is not seen there often.
