Here sits the powerful commander of the ferocious Beast Pack. He's become a pawn for an invading specimen from beyond the stars, tasked with gathering food, capturing the Waddle Dees to use as a power source, and—most importantly—retrieving the lost specimen tagged as ID-F87...
— Figure description of Leongar from Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Leongar (also known as Leon) is a large anthropomorphic lion who made his debut in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and is the leader of the Beast Pack. He has orange fur with a red mane, and has giant arms with long claws on his hands, making his proportions similar to Gorimondo or King Dedede's macho form from Kirby Star Allies. Unlike the other members of the Beast Back, Leongar can speak in words and sentences to Kirby and Elfilin, having gained this ability when he was influenced by Specimen "ID-F86". This influence would also cause Leongar to fall under the creature's control, directing the Beast Pack to capture Waddle Dees and Elfilin in order to meet ID-F86's purposes. Leongar would later have his body and soul subsumed into Fecto Forgo directly, and it would later be up to Kirby and Elfilin to head into Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams to recover Leon's soul and break Fecto Forgo's influence over him.

His name comes from "leo" and the name "Leon", both referring to lions. He is voiced by Kenta Miyake, a Japanese voice actor.

Game appearances

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Leongar first appears as an apparent main antagonist in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, not showing up in person until the last level of the main story mode: Lab Discovera. Kirby encounters him in the central chamber where Fecto Forgo is being kept in stasis. Leongar is the one who explains to Kirby their motives for capturing Elfilin and the Waddle Dees, and reveals Elfilin's connection to Fecto Forgo. When Kirby does battle with Leongar, partway through, he undergoes a full possession by Fecto Forgo, gaining nightmarish power. However, Kirby is still able to best him. As a result, Fecto Forgo gives up its carefully-laid plan and subsumes Leongar directly into itself, along with several other Beast Pack members to form a hideous amalgam that Kirby must battle. After this point, Leongar is not seen again until Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams.

In the Extra Mode, Kirby and Elfilin agree to help Clawroline get Leon back by heading into Fecto Forgo's dream realm and collecting the scattered pieces of Leon's soul. Once they've collected enough, they can head to Forgo Land and attempt to revive Leon. This seems to work well at first, but Fecto Forgo's soul still has control over Leon, and they have to fight again. It isn't until after Soul Forgo (then Morpho Knight) is defeated that the rest of the Beast Pack show up and help Leon return to his original self.

Leongar is the first boss faced in Lab Discovera, and is overall the seventh and third-to-last boss of the game. Before Kirby fights him, however, he needs to deal with an ambush of Beast Pack members. This can be skipped if Kirby either attacks Leongar directly or just approaches him during this initial encounter. The battle with Leongar takes place in two phases. For the first, Leongar uses his claws, fists, and a charging attack to try and hit Kirby. His upward claw strike creates a fire effect, and his fist slam attack creates a shockwave. When Leongar is down to 40% of his health or lower, he becomes possessed and throws out three more unnatural attacks: a series of energy slash waves, an unnerving chomping attack, and breathing a large laser beam from his mouth.

Attacks

Leongar has 1,800 HP in Lab Discovera and 1,260 HP in the Colosseum. He transitions to the second phase once his health is at 40% of his maximum health or lower and takes 0.2X damage when he roars at the start of the battle and during the phase transition. He also takes 0.55X damage during the entire second phase.[1]

The following table lists all of Leongar's attacks (attack names are from page 104 of the Kirby and the Forgotten Land Perfect Support Guide). Attacks not listed in italics are only used in the first phase, while attacks listed in italics are only used in the second phase.

Leongar's attacks in Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Attack Description Variants
かぎ爪
Claw
Leongar swipes forward with his claws, doing one or two swipes in succession. Each swipe leaves behind a Drop Star.
強襲のネメアー
Nemean of Assault
Leongar charges at Kirby with rapid speed and pounces, digging his claws into the ground and creating three Drop Stars.
"Nemean" is in reference to the "Nemean lion," an almost impervious lion species from Greek mythology.
パンゲアを裂く爪
Claws Tearing Through Pangaea
Leongar extends his claws outward and then drags them along the ground toward Kirby, finishing with a big upward swipe that has a fiery effect and leaves Drop Stars behind.
"Pangaea" is in reference to a possible theory regarding a single continent before tectonic plates caused this supercontinent to gradually break apart into the seven continents Earth is known for today.
痛撃
Hard Blow
Leongar brings his hands together into a ball and then slams the ground, creating a shockwave and producing several Drop Stars.
サイコクロッシングレオン
Psycho-Crossing Leon
Leongar swipes his arms in three different motions, creating waves of energy that fly at Kirby and leave Drop Stars in their wake.
四肢の牙音
Sound of Fanged Extremities
Leongar gets on all fours and starts chomping in an unnerving manner as he claws his way toward Kirby, leaving Drop Stars as he goes. This attack can repeat as few as one to as many as seven times before proceeding to the next attack. If Leongar snaps his teeth twice before chomping, he will home in on Kirby's positioning. If not, then he'll continue chomping in a straight line until hitting an edge of the arena.
サイコハウリング砲
Psycho Howling Cannon
Leongar breathes a laser from his mouth which sweeps toward Kirby. The laser leaves Drop Stars on the ground.

The specimen tagged as ID-F86, left formless and floating after a humiliating defeat, fled to Forgo Dreams to plot their next steps: create a new army of phantom beasts, then claim Leongar's body as their own. When Kirby arrived to force them out, ID-F86 had no choice but to reveal their own phantom form.
— Figure description of Forgo Leon from Kirby and the Forgotten Land

In the last stage at the Isolated Isles of Forgo Dreams, Forgo Land, Kirby must do battle with Leon once again, though this time his possession by Fecto Forgo is even more severe. He retains most of his old attacks, but also gains some new ones and new spins on many of his previous ones. Soul Forgo also appears partway into the fight to harass Kirby while Leon is attacking him.

Attacks

Forgo Leon's battle consists of two main phases, each defined by a separate health meter. The first phase is more-or-less identical to the second phase of Leongar's fight in the main game, while in the second phase, he uses a lot of the same attacks as in the main game's first phase, but powered-up. Halfway through the second phase, Soul Forgo appears to attack Kirby alongside Forgo Leon.

Forgo Leon has 1,400 HP in phase 1 and 2,000 HP in phase 2 when fought at Forgo Land, and has 980 HP in phase 1 and 1,400 HP in phase 2 when fought at the Colosseum.[1]

The following are all of Forgo Leon's attacks (attack names are taken from page 107 in the Kirby and the Forgotten Land Perfect Support Guide). Attacks in italics are only used in the second phase.

Forgo Leon breathes a laser from his mouth which sweeps toward Kirby. The laser leaves Drop Stars on the ground. This also burns the ground around him with his aura.
憑獣の痛撃
Hard Blow of the Possessed Beast
Forgo Leon brings his hands together into a ball and then slams the ground three times in a row, creating shockwaves with lightning bolts coursing along it and producing several Drop Stars. The last strike produces more lightning bolts.
憑獣のサイコハウリング砲
Psycho Howling Cannon of the Possessed Beast
Forgo Leon breathes a laser from his mouth which sweeps outward quickly. From there, debris falls from the ceiling which Kirby needs to avoid.

強襲のネメアー
Nemean of Assault
Forgo Leon charges at Kirby with rapid speed and pounces, digging his claws into the ground and creating three Drop Stars. He can do this move up to three times in succession.
豹変のサイコドリーミーガルフ
Sudden Psycho Dreamygar
Forgo Leon throws four energy waves at Kirby in rapid succession, then finishes with a quick laser breath blast. This move starts being used once Forgo Leon's health drops to 55% or lower. He takes 0.2X damage before Soul Forgo uses its "Soul Crash" move.
ソウルクラッシュ
Soul Crash
Immediately after the "Sudden Psycho Dreamygar" attack, Soul Forgo appears near Kirby and creates a big dark energy blast that covers a large area. The attack cannot be guarded against.
ソウルキャノンボール
Soul Cannonball
At regular intervals during Forgo Leon's other attacks, Soul Forgo appears and shoots an energy ball at Kirby. When the ball hits the ground, it creates a shockwave that spreads outward.
This only starts happening once Forgo Leon's health drops to 55% or lower.
