It's time to dance! The Leaf Dance creates a gorgeous swirl of razor-edged leaves. Press A to Guard, and...huh?! You're gone!

Leaf is a Copy Ability that debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Its attacks include swirling leaves, and throwing them mostly in a vortex fashion. These leaves, like Cutter blades and similar projectiles, are able to cut ropes. In addition, Leaf Kirby also receives a unique Guard, where instead of guarding like he normally would, Kirby hides in a leaf pile, which renders him immune to all attacks. With its unique Guard and the ability to attack from medium range, Leaf is a defensive ability that cautious players can use very effectively.

Game appearances

Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Leaf debuts in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and is encountered fairly early in the game. It can be obtained from the enemies Leafan and Bulby, neither of which put up much of a fight.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

game quote

Leaf returns in Kirby: Triple Deluxe and is unchanged from its previous appearance. It is encountered much less often than in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, however.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

Be a leaf on the wind with this sharp ability. Spin up a torrent of dancing leaves to slice and dice, or activate your guard and--Hey, where'd you go?!

Leaf also appears in Kirby: Planet Robobot, serving the same purpose as before.

Move-set

Leaf move-set for Kirby's Return to Dream Land
Move Controls Details
Leaf Attack 1 Launches several leaves forwards. They swirl around Kirby in an increasing arc before flying offscreen in the forwards direction, dealing delayed damage at surprising ranges.
Leaf Swirl Hold 1 Kirby begins circling around, forming a tornado of leaves that deals continuous damage. Kirby can jump and move slowly while spinning; the move can be held indefinitely.
Leaf Scatter Release 1 during Leaf Swirl The leaf tornado from Leaf Swirl expands as its constituent leaves scatter in various directions.
Leaf Dance Dash + 1 A more contained and time-limited form of Leaf Swirl; a quick twister of leaves that hits repeatedly for a second or two.
Leaf Hide Hold A A special Guard, whereupon Kirby hides in a pile of leaves. Kirby becomes intangible, completely immune to any attacks, which pass through him without causing any chip damage or knockback; enemies likewise take no damage upon colliding with him, however. Releasing the guard causes a burst of leaves that deal minor damage to nearby enemies.
Leaf Uppercut ↑ + 1 Similar to Stone Uppercut, Kirby creates a vertical line of leaves that reaches upwards and hits targets at slightly above his level. Acts quickly and can be reasonably spammed against floating bosses.
Leaf Rain ↓ + 1 in midair Fires mutliple leaves in a fan formation downwards, looking similar to Wing's Feather Gun. Gives Kirby a small boost upwards when used, but the delay between uses makes it not feasible to float with.
