Lantern is an unlockable item which appears in the Top Ride mode of Kirby Air Ride. It appears rarely during standard races, dropping onto the course. When touched by a racer, the item activates, causing the entire course to go dark, save for a small area of light around the racer who activated it.

Blue Kirby holds the lantern item during a Top Ride match on Metal.

To unlock Lantern, the player must finish in 1st place on each Top Ride course without using items.

Lantern is activated as soon as the racer touches it. Unlike most items, it cannot be shaken off using a Quick Spin, but it can be removed if the racer is attacked or enters a stage hazard. It will also wear off after about 8 seconds.
