A four-headed dragon that sleeps on Halcandra, Landia has been revered as a protector since ancient times…until now.
— VS Landia Special Page in Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Landia is a boss that debuted in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, residing in Halcandra, and serves as the boss of the Dangerous Dinner level. He appears as a four headed orange-red dragon, where the top head of the dragon carries the Master Crown, a legendary artifact of limitless power. However, this combined form appears to be an effect bestowed by the crown, as Landia normally appears as four separate much smaller dragons.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

Landia has lived on Halcandra since ancient times, protecting the land and guarding the world’s most legendary items, but…
— VS Landia EX Special Page in Kirby's Return to Dream Land

In the story of Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Magolor commands Kirby to go and defeat Landia, as Landia attacked the Lor Starcutter, Magolor's ship, as Magolor arrived at Halcandra, along with Kirby. Upon Landia's defeat by Kirby, it is revealed that Magolor and Landia had a past conflict, which ended with Magolor fleeing to Popstar, and only enlisted Kirby's help in repairing the Lor Starcutter to defeat Landia and help him obtain the Master Crown, which would give him the power to rule the universe. Landia, now consisting of four small dragons, then assists Kirby and accompanying friends, in chasing Magolor and the Lor Starcutter when Magolor enters Another Dimension to go and conquer Popstar. Once Magolor and his mutated second form are defeated, Landia, along with the now friendly Lor Starcutter, assists Kirby in returning to Dream Land.

As a Boss

In the second phase, Landia splits into four dragons

Landia is faced as the boss of Dangerous Dinner. During the first phase of the fight, he fights as the whole dragon. During the second phase, he splits up and attacks as the four smaller dragons, and the dragon wearing the crown takes more damage than the other three. They may recombine into their four-headed form during the second phase for certain attacks.

The following lists all of Landia's attacks in the Main Mode of Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Attacks in italics are used in the second phase of the fight only.

Attacks - Main Mode
Attack Description
Fire Shots Landia fires individual fire balls from his mouths that cannot be swallowed.
Triple Spin Strike Landia flies in close and performs three rapid spins, striking with his wings and his feet. The last strike leaves stars behind.
Dive Landia dives in a maneuver that cannot be ducked, leaving stars at the lowest point of the dive.
Fire Breath Landia breathes fire with two of his heads, covering much of the stage.
Gust Landia flaps his wings, creating a torrent of wind that pushes Kirby back, and also creates sharp gusts that can do damage and can't be swallowed.
Bomber Dragons Landia re-positions and fires downward repeatedly, covering a large area systematically. The first and last shots leave stars.
Volt Transfer Landia flies into a grid formation, and starts charging electricity between his bodies. He Will either re-position or move about in a counterclockwise manner.
Quad Dive Landia dives each of his bodies across the stage, two at a time.
Fireball Toss Landia forms a large fireball and tosses it around to his other parts. It then flies into the background, and crashes on the stage, leaving stars.
*Attack names are conjectural.

In Extra Mode, Landia transforms into Landia EX when encountered. In this form, his color scheme is purple, and his attacks are generally faster and cover more ground.

Attacks - Extra Mode
Attack Description
Gust EX Landia flaps his wings, creating a torrent of wind that pushes Kirby back, and also creates sharp gusts that can do damage and can't be swallowed. Landia then circles around and performs this move again on the other side.
Triple Spin Strike EX Landia flies in close and performs three rapid spins, striking with his wings and his feet. The last strike leaves stars behind. Faster than the normal counterpart.
Dive EX Landia dives in a maneuver that cannot be ducked, leaving stars at the lowest point of the dive.
Fire Breath EX Landia breathes fire with two of his heads, covering much of the stage. Landia also moves side-to-side while performing this move. Additionally, Landia may systematically use this move, then move to a different position and use it again.
Fire Shots EX Landia fires paired fire balls from his mouths that cannot be swallowed. Many more shots than the normal counterpart.
Back Dive Landia flies into the background, then attempts to ram Kirby.
Volt Transfer EX Landia flies into a grid formation, and starts charging electricity between his bodies, while flying across the stage.
Fireball Toss EX Landia forms a large fireball and tosses it around to his other parts, while moving closer in, then back out. The fireball then flies into the background, splits into three, and crashes on the stage, leaving stars.
Quad Dive EX Landia dives each of his bodies across the stage, one at a time.
Bomber Dragons EX Landia re-positions and fires multiple shots downward repeatedly, covering a large area systematically. The first and last shots leave stars. Additionally, other dragons will perform Dives while this is happening.
*Attack names are conjectural.

As an Ally

— Another Dimension, Pause Screen

In the level Another Dimension, the stages encountered prior to the fight with Magolor are traversed riding Landia, in a side-scrolling shooter section. He is considered a Last Battle Ability, similar to the Starship from Kirby Super Star.

Landia appears as the penultimate and final boss of the Sub-Game Team Kirby Clash. He is described as a guardian angel, and has two distinct forms. The first fights more-or-less like Landia in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. The second is Landia EX like the same EX form in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Once Landia is defeated in his EX form, the Sub-Game is complete.

Landia reprises his role in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash--his attacks and role in the story undiminished from before. He has been made much tougher in all his iterations, in order to provide more of a challenge for Team Kirby.

In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, Landia EX serves as the fifth Ordeal, and defeating him rolls the first credits sequence. In Super Kirby Clash, Landia EX serves as the seventh Story Quest Ordeal, and fights identically to his previous battle.

Parallel Landia

The Landion blade and Landion Helm are the respective Rarity 9 (Rarity 11 in Super Kirby Clash) Weapon and Armor set for Sword Hero Kirby, sold at Magolor's Shoppe. Their designs are based on Landia the dragon himself.

Kirby Star Allies

Landia makes a small cameo in the "FIGHT FOR THE CROWN" and "The Shape of a Heart" Celebration Pictures. In the first one, he appears in bottom-left and bottom-right panels, while in the second, he occupies the left side.

Super Smash Bros. series

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Landia appears as an attack-type ★★ primary spirit with 3 support slots. His initial stats are 834 attack and 603 defense, but when leveled up to level 99, he has 3,372 attack and 2,442 defense. He can be obtained in five ways: summoning him using the spirits or cores of Nibbles and Fortitudo, battling him in World of Light, battling him via the Spirit Board, or purchasing him from the Shop, however the latter two methods require him to be obtained at least once before.

Trivia

  • Landia's eyes are green when first encountered, and turn red after losing half their health. After being defeated, they turn blue, and stay that way throughout Another Dimension.
    • Landia EX's eyes are dark magenta and Parallel Landia's eyes are yellow, but both gain red eyes at half health.
  • Landia EX's Special Page in Kirby's Return to Dream Land indicates Landia guards more than one legendary item. Magolor EX's Special Page also mentions he stole the Lor Starcutter from Halcandra. The Lor could be another item that Landia was guarding besides the Master Crown.
  • Landia's teeth are simply a texture on the inside of his mouths in earlier games, but in Super Kirby Clash, they are fully modeled, making them much easier to see.
  • While Landia is male in English, they are referred to as both male and female in the German translations.
  • Landia's body color for his normal and EX form closely match those of the Great Dragon from Kirby Super Star Ultra in Milky Way Wishes and Helper to Hero respectively.
