KRRR-RACKK! Dance to my deadly music, or fry like a moth! HA HA!!
— Kracko, Kirby's Avalanche

Kracko is a recurring boss in the Kirby series. He resembles a large floating cloud, but it has a single eyeball in his center and small spikes on his fringes. In every iteration, Kracko's signature attack is his ability to shoot lightning bolts, fire beams from his eye, and generate various minions from his body (usually Waddle Doos). It also has a weaker, more premature form called Kracko Jr.

Battle Style

Kracko's attacks vary depending on the game, but this table describes the recurring attacks that it uses.

All listed attack names are conjectural.

Kracko's Attacks
Attack Description
Enemy Drop Kracko animates quickly, then drops one of several common enemies, the most common being Waddle Doo. This is his most common attack in combat.
Beam Kracko shoots two harmful beam whips that rotate quickly around himself.
Tackle Kracko swoops towards Kirby across the entire screen. In some games, it may also spin twice to increase the attack's range, similar to a W-letter path.
Lightning Sweep Kracko sweeps quickly across the screen while shooting lightning at the ground. Covers the entire arena floor.
Rainstorm Kracko flies above Kirby and attempts to rain on him. This may hit multiple times in many later games. Kirby can hold an umbrella over his head to negate this.
Co-Kracko Kracko releases a smaller version of himself, a Co-Kracko, to attack.

Appearances

Kirby's Dream Land

Kracko makes his debut as the third boss of the stage Bubbly Clouds. In this stage his juvenile form, Kracko Jr. also appears as a mini-boss. Kracko himself has 6 HP, while his Kracko Jr. form has 3. Kracko summons Waddle Doos and uses a variety of Beam attacks.

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

File:Kracko NinDL battle.png
Kirby battling Kracko with the Hi-Jump ability in Nightmare in Dream Land.

Kracko appeared as the fourth boss of Kirby's Adventure and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, in the level Grape Garden. He starts out as Kracko Jr..

At the start of the battle, Kracko Jr. can be seen in the air, and a Starman appears to the right. Kirby must inhale it for the Hi-Jump ability and ascend through the layers of cloud. Kirby must be quick, as Kracko Jr. destroys the cloud layers one-by-one, and Kirby will lose a stock if he falls back down. Once Kirby reaches the top, Kracko Jr. morphs into Kracko and the fight begins.

Kracko attacks by shooting beams from his body, spitting out Starmen and swooping about, often shooting lightning in the process. To hurt Kracko, Kirby can spit the Starmen back at him, or use Hi-Jump to tackle the boss. Once Kracko is defeated, it explodes, leaving behind the fourth Star Rod piece for Kirby to collect.

Kirby's Pinball Land

Kracko appears as the boss of Kracko Land after transforming from Kracko Jr.. He attacks by conjuring Flappers and shooting lightning at the flippers to disable them. After five successful hits, Kracko is defeated.

Kracko also appears in the ending cut-scene as part of the enemy march.

Kirby's Dream Land 2

Kracko reappears in Kirby's Dream Land 2 as the boss of Cloudy Park. It is fought on a cloud platform, and begins as Kracko Jr. In this form, it can hide in the cloud platform, occasionally exposing his eye to shoot beams. After his Kracko Jr. form is defeated, the boss refills his health and turns into his true form. Both forms are able to summon Co-Krackos.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

Although Kracko does not appear in his true colours in Kirby's Dream Land 3, Ado draws the painting in her fourth phase, which can use most of Kracko's basic attacks. Interestingly, Ado is fought in Cloudy Park where Kracko himself was fought in Kirby's Dream Land 2.

Kirby Super Star (Ultra)

File:Krackokracko.gif

Kracko is a boss in Kirby Super Star and its remake, Kirby Super Star Ultra. It appears in Spring Breeze, Milky Way Wishes, the Arena, Revenge of the King, Meta Knightmare Ultra, Helper to Hero, and both The Arena and The True Arena. In Revenge of the King and the True Arena, it takes the form of Kracko's Revenge. This form is strikingly different in his colTemplate:Ouration from standard Kracko; being purplish instead of white, and bearing a red eye and black spikes. Along with Kracko's standard attacks, Kracko's Revenge can fly into the middle of the screen and shoot large bolts of lightning in eight different directions. His Star Beam attack is also larger, and his lightning attacks are more targeted.

Kirby's Avalanche

Kracko is the opponent in stage 11. He is the third-to-last enemy, and only Meta Knight and King Dedede are fought after Kracko himself is. This is the only game in the series where Kracko talks directly to Kirby.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble

File:Kracko TNT.jpg
Kracko as he appears at the end of Level 3 in Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble.

Kracko is faced as a boss twice in this title, first in Level 3, then in Level 6. Both times, he flies about the area, laying a continuous line of Gordos to attempt to box Kirby in. Meanwhile, he will be firing Co-Krackos or his signature lightning bolts at Kirby. To defeat him, Kirby must fire a continuous barrage of Air Bullets at the cycloptic cloud.

Kirby Air Ride

Main article: Kracko Orb

In Kirby Air Ride, Kracko is actually an item in Top Ride, not a boss. It selects a random opponent and strikes them with powerful lightning. This can catch other racers who run into the shock range as well. This is similar to Mario Kart's thunderbolt, but only targets one enemy intentionally.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

Kracko appears as the boss of Mustard Mountain. Unlike previous games, this is the only game to put Kracko in a place that is not in some way related to clouds. In this game, it creates Flamers; being the only game where it does this. Upon his defeat, Kracko explodes

Kirby: Canvas Curse

Main article: Block Attack

Kracko appears in the Boss Game Block Attack, specifically in Levels 2 and 3 (Kracko Jr. appears in Level 1). Kirby can ram Kracko's eye to sap his health, which can be done by removing pieces of his body first. In the meantime, Kracko will use his normal beam and lightning attacks to try and prevent this.

Kirby: Squeak Squad

Main article: Mecha-Kracko

Although Kracko himself does not really appear in Kirby: Squeak Squad, Doc appears as the boss of Cushy Cloud, and uses a mech that is made in the likeness of Kracko.

The fluffy body looks soft, but that big eye will shoot bolts that are anything but...!
— Patch Plaza description

Kracko is (surprisingly) a Mid-Boss in Kirby's Epic Yarn. It is fought three times. The first time it chases Kirby for a short distance in Cloud Palace. Much later in the level, Kracko is actually fought, using his Co-Kracko and lightning-based attacks. Kirby defeats this version with the Star Shooter transformation. A relative of Kracko is also faced as a mid-boss in Outer Rings, fittingly as Space Kracko.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

It seems Kracko has made Floralia part of his territory. He's being fed by a mysterious power source, so his attacks are stronger than ever before!
— Triple Deluxe Boss description

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kracko appears as the boss of Level 3, Old Odyssey and is fought again in Stage 2 of Royal Road. He appears after being summoned (inadvertently) by Taranza in a last-ditch effort to escape Kirby. Kracko is souped up and possesses many new attacks not seen in previous iterations. It also has a DX form which is even more powerful.

The following lists all of Kracko's attacks in Story Mode and The Arena in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Attacks in italics are used only in his second phase.

Kracko's Attacks in Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Attack Description
Enemy Drop Kracko shakes himself and drops a Waddle Doo into the arena, which can be swallowed for the Beam ability.
Beam Kracko turns grey and unleashes a swirl of blue beam whips that spiral around his body for a short time.
Tackle Kracko dives across the stage, in a maneuver that can be difficult to dodge.
It can do this in a few different ways. In the second phase, Kracko can dive between the planes.
Rainstorm Kracko turns blue and delivers a torrent of rain below him.
Lightning Sweep Kracko turns black and unleashes a flurry of lightning bolts below his body as he travels slowly across the stage.
Long Horn While in a different plane than Kirby, Kracko shoots out two giant coiled spikes on both sides of his body,
then attempts to ram Kirby with them, leaving Recoil Stars in his wake. After passing once, he will try again from the other side.
天からの災雷
Disasterous Thunder from the Sky
Kracko turns grey and vibrates violently, releasing all sorts of junk that can be inhaled and spat back, including a Parasol Waddle Dee, finishing with a cannon that Kirby can use to fire to a different plane.
After charging, Kracko inflates to a huge size and then proceeds to zap the entire stage with lightning. Kirby has to escape to a different plane to avoid getting hit, and using the cannon is the best option.
Cross Thunder If on the same plane as Kirby, Kracko charges up, then fires lightning bolts on both sides of his body, then above and beneath his body. He then fires two diagonal bolts. Any ground-hitting bolts will leave a star.
Lightning Ball If Kracko is on a different plane than Kirby, he will attempt to fire a barrage of beam shots into Kirby's plane, which spread across the floor.
It may also deliberately fly into a different plane to perform this attack. The last shot of the barrage leaves a star behind.
Super Lightning Ball While in the background and Kirby is in the foreground, Kracko shoots out his big golden spikes from the top of his 'head' and charges up a giant ball of energy, which he then tosses into Kirby's plane in an attempt to hit him.
The blast hits the ground, then splits into many smaller blasts and some stars. These smaller blasts can be inhaled as well.

Whenever Kracko's body takes a hit, a visible tear drops from his single eye. Upon his health being reduced to half, Kracko's eye and complexion become red, and he opens up with many more attacks after clearing away the background with a whirlwind, making this a factor in the fight.

Kirby Fighters (Deluxe)

Kracko appears as a Boss on his own home stage. He will attack the fighting Kirbys and can be defeated. His moves are mostly the same as those of his Triple Deluxe incarnation, though stripped down to accommodate a single-plane arena.

Kracko is encountered twice in this spinoff adventure. His moves are mostly the same as those of his Triple Deluxe incarnation, though stripped down to accommodate a single-plane arena.

Kracko serves as the first Ordeal, and defeating him unlocks the Ruins.

Kirby: Battle Royale

Kracko appears in one of the objectives in Crazy Theater. The Kirbys must dodge his shocks.

Even in the far-flung reaches of space, as long as there's a sky, Kirby's long-time nemesis Kracko can show up and cast a shadow across it. But out here, something about his energy feels...different. Stay on your guard, Star Allies!
— Kracko's Pause Screen Description

Kracko appears as a Boss in Kirby Star Allies, where he is fought in Gabbel Moon. In this game, Kracko now also summons Chillys. It would appear that Kracko has been possessed by the same force affecting the other bosses. Kracko has 4000 HP in Story Mode and Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go!, and 3000 HP in The Ultimate Choice. (For referece, a Star Bullet does 520 damage.)

Once defeated, Kracko uses his Jamba Heart star to duplicate himself into Twin Kracko and continues the boss battle.

Main article: Twin Kracko

There are also two more powerful parallel versions of Kracko in this title, known as Parallel Twin Kracko and Parallel Big Kracko. These are actually the same entity, and this entity appears more menacing than his normal counterpart does.

As Cameos

Main article: Vividria

Vividria the mid-boss can paint Kracko from her canvas to drop lightning bolts. This replica provides the Plasma ability when swallowed by Kirby.

Main article: Adeleine#Kirby Star Allies

Adeleine & Ribbon the Dream Friend can paint Kracko from the move Ado's Painter. Then, she rides this replica and attacks with Kracko's beams and lightning bolts for a limited amount of time.

In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!

In the anime, Kracko appears in episode four, "A Dark and Stormy Knight." It is much more powerful than it is in the games. Kracko is defeated when Kirby obtains the sword and cuts Kracko's body into two pieces.

Trivia

  • Kracko's relationship to Kracko Jr. is not always clear, but it is generally understood that the latter can transform into the former.
  • While Whispy Woods has served as a boss the most times in the series, Kracko has appeared in the most games of any other boss not counting King Dedede.
  • His name is a pun on "crack", an onomatopoeia of the sound of lightning striking.
  • Kracko is often referred to as male in games, as the Kirby Star Allies Pause Screen Description says, "But now, his energy is different," during his first phase.
