Kirby Fighters Deluxe is a Kirby spin-off game for the Nintendo 3DS. It is a stand-alone, upgraded version of Kirby Fighters, a Sub-Game in Kirby: Triple Deluxe. The premise of the game centers around Kirbys of differing colors battling each-other using various Copy Abilities at distinct locations from the Kirby series in a fighting game format. Using their distinct Copy Ability attacks as well as utilizing various items, the goal is to be the last Kirby (or team of Kirbys) standing.

Changes to Single Player Mode
Items
All items are carried over from the original Kirby Fighters, with the addition of one new item exclusive to Team Battles.
*Kracko is fought as a Boss in Round 5, who previously only appears as the Bubbly Clouds stage hazard enemy in Kirby Fighters.

!colspan=5|Stage items in Kirby Fighters Deluxe
**The Another Dimension stage no longer appears as well.

Rare Outfits
Alternate Costumes called Rare Outfits are added for each Copy Ability.

Rare Outfits are unlocked when completing Single Player Mode with the respective ability. They can be selected by pressing X in the ability menu.

When any Rare Outfits are unlocked, they may also appear on CPU Kirbys.

Rare Outfits don't change any aspects of the ability in core gameplay such Kirby's stamina and hitbox, or ability attack's damage and hitbox.

Miscellaneous
Team Battle
Team Battles are introduced in both Single Player and Multiplayer Mode.
A Team Battle can be 2 vs 1, 2 vs 2, or 3 vs 1. Kirbys on the same team can perform Face-to-Face to share recovery food with their partners just like in the main series.
Team Cannon
A special item called Team Cannon is also introduced, which resembles Combo Cannon from the battleship Halberd.
Besides firing small energy shots when held by one Kirby, Team Cannon can allow Kirbys, provided that they are on the same team, to stack on top of each other to shoot a large beam of energy, which deals a large sum of damage. Larger amounts of Kirbys result in a more powerful beam.
Team Cannon's charge beam attack doesn't stop the timer in Single Player Mode even though everything else becomes still apart from the Team Cannon Kirbys.
Shadow Kirby Color
Despite his removal as a boss, Shadow Kirby still appears in the game, and is now playable. Upon clearing Single Player on Very Hard for the first time, realMe is given the option to select Shadow Kirby as a Kirby color in the other modes. This also causes him to appear on the title screen.

The final battle is against King Dedede and his group of clones made by the Star Rod Hammer Dedede Custom at the Fountain of Dreams. First, realMe has to battle all of the Mini Dededes, who after jumping in from the background, are defeated in one hit, so they don't pose much of a threat. After that, Dedede and his two orange Combo Dededes appear to battle Kirby. Once the Combo Dededes are defeated, King Dedede grows over twice his normal size and attacks Kirby. Once he is defected, realMe unlocks a rare outfit for their current copy ability (if they don't already have it).

Differences from Kirby Fighters
While almost all content from Kirby Fighters is carried over into this version, new features and stages have been added, which are listed as follows:

New Stages
Six new stages are added to the original set from Kirby Fighters, bringing the total number for this game to twelve:
*Butter Building
*Fountain of Dreams (replaces Another Dimension from Kirby Fighters)
*Haldera Volcano
*Dyna Blade's Nest
*Springy Hand Land
*Waddle Dee Train Tracks (Unlocked using StreetPass data for Kirby: Triple Deluxe)

Copy Abilities
Two new Copy Abilities are added to the default roster of 10 abilities from Kirby Fighters, provided that the player has StreetPass data for Kirby: Triple Deluxe, bringing the total number of abilities in the game to twelve.
*Beetle
*Bell

Changes to Single Player Mode
Rounds
*Some rounds in Single Player Mode now have Team Battles in which the Kirbys can team up in groups of two or three.
*It is possible to encounter opponents with the Beetle and Bell abilities, regardless of whether the player has unlocked the abilities or not.
*Two new boss battles are added to the game, which are covered in the next section:

Bosses
*Kracko is fought as a Boss in Round 5, who previously only appears as the Bubbly Clouds stage hazard enemy in Kirby Fighters. It is treated as a Team Battle, with the player being accompanied by a Buddy with the same ability as them.
*The Final Round, rather than being against Shadow Kirby, is instead a battle in which Kirby fights Team DDD (the number varies in difficulty levels): King Dedede with multiple pink Mini Dededes and two medium-sized orange Combo Dededes.
**The Final Round is also fought on the Fountain of Dreams instead of Another Dimension.

Gameplay
Major changes to the gameplay of Kirby Fighters Deluxe include:

Team Battle
Team Battles are introduced in Single Player, Multiplayer, and Training modes. Team Battles can have teams of two or three Kirbys. Kirbys on the same team can perform Face-to-Face to share recovery food with their partners just like in the main series.

Team Cannon
Team Cannon

A special item exclusive to Team Battles called Team Cannon is also introduced, which resembles the Combo Cannon from Kirby Super Star. At least two Kirbys on the same team are required to charge the cannon and use its powerful laser beam attack.

Unlockable Aesthetics
All alternate colors for Kirby from Kirby Fighters are carried over to the game, and new unlockable aesthetics are added as follows:

Rare Outfits
Costumes called Rare Outfits are added for each Copy Ability. Rare Outfits are unlocked when completing Single Player Mode on any difficulty with the respective ability. They can be selected by pressing X in the ability menu.

*After Single Player mode is beaten on Very Hard difficulty for the first time, Shadow Kirby will also appear on the title screen, replacing the top-left Pink Kirby.
**If all the Rare Outfits are unlocked, the Kirbys on the title screen will don said outfits for each ability.
**On the title screen, there is a chance that the indigo colored Kirby will be briefly replaced with King Dedede, then become that Kirby again.
*According to a Miiverse post by the developers, a working title considered for the game was 大激闘!桃色武道大会 (Royal Rampage! Pink Fighting Championship). The idea behind this title was to avoid using Kirby's name, which emphasizes how many Kirbys come to fight together. In the end, they decided to go with a simple title that would clearly communicate the idea behind the game.
*Most, if not all of the moves in this game that had invincibility frames in games prior (Hammer Twirl and Hammer Swing, for example) no longer make the user invincible during regular battles, a trait that also occurs in the other Kirby Fighters games. However, the invincibility frames are retained during boss fights.
**Oddly enough, one exception to this major change is Bell Kirby's Bell Block move, which retains invincibility frames as Kirby gets out of his bell hat when letting go of the guard button, allowing him to avoid many attacks that others wouldn't after guarding.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe was released in tandem with Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe in 2014 for Japan, North America, and South Korea, and in 2015 for Europe and Australia, exclusively in digital format via the Nintendo eShop. A sequel to this game, Kirby Fighters 2, was released for the Nintendo Switch on September 2020 worldwide.

Copy Abilities[edit]

Kirby Fighters Deluxe has 12 usable Copy Abilities in all, carrying over the original 10 abilities from the original Kirby Fighters, as well as adding two extra abilities: Beetle & Bell, which can be unlocked if the player has StreetPass data for Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

Yes A close-up melee fighter who specializes in wide-area attacks and can throw out sound wave projectiles. Has a special Guard.

Stages[edit]

There are a total of twelve stages that players can select from to battle on, based on locations from various Kirby games. Six stages are carried over from the original Kirby Fighters, with six new ones added, including one stage that requires StreetPass data for Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

Stages in Kirby Fighters Deluxe
Stage New stage? Description Notes
No A basic arena with three thin floors and no additional elements. The stage uses a different song, which is the Green Greens retro rearrangement from Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
Based on Fine Fields - Stage 1 from Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
Yes Two thin floors, and six springy hands that randomly shoot out toward the screen. If Kirby is hit by the hand he loses some life and respawns back on the stage. Based on Lollipop Land - Stage 3 from Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
No A three-tiered series of hallways with thin floors allowing passage between them.
Lololo & Lalala appear and push objects through the halls.
Based on the stage from Kirby's Dream Land, though taking its design from Float Islands in Kirby Super Star Ultra.
No Six thin floors, and five holes in the trees that either Rick, Kine, or Coo will emerge from. They emerge from the tree, perform an attack on the players, and then return back through the hole. Based on Grass Land - Stage 5 from Kirby's Dream Land 3.
No One thin floor. Throughout the battle, King Dedede will appear occasionally to toss different objects at the fighters. Based on Mt. Dedede from Spring Breeze in Kirby Super Star Ultra.
No A flat arena with no additional platforms.
In the middle are three large hammers which slam into the stage in various patterns.
Based on Factory Tour from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
No A basic arena with two thin floor platforms.
Kracko appears as a stage hazard to attack the fighters.
This stage appears with a nighttime appearance as opposed to its daytime appearance in Kirby Fighters.
Based on the stage from Spring Breeze in Kirby Super Star Ultra.
Yes A small flat stage with no additional platforms.
Dyna Blade appears to attack the fighters.
Based on the stage from Dyna Blade in Kirby Super Star Ultra.
Yes A two-tiered arena with a high-up long thin floor on top.
The stage occasionally spins to the left or right, taking fighters with it.
Bronto Burts, Starmen, Laser Balls, and UFOs appear to attack the fighters.
Based on Butter Building - Stage 3 from Kirby's Adventure.
Yes A cavern split by three bodies of lava and a thin floor in the middle.
The pits occasionally spew streams of lava outward.
Based on Dangerous Dinner - Stage 1 from Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
Yes A large flat arena with no platforms or hazards. Based on the Fountain of Dreams from Kirby's Adventure, and is the place where Team DDD is fought. In effect, it replaces Another Dimension from Kirby Fighters.
On Single Player (Very Hard), the arena will change to resemble its 2D appearance from Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.
Yes An open arena with two thin floor platforms on the sides. A Waddle Dee Train regularly rides through the middle and across the stage. Based on Old Odyssey - Stage 1 from Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
This stage is only unlocked if the player's 3DS has StreetPass data for Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

Items[edit]

All items are carried over from the original Kirby Fighters, with the addition of one new item exclusive to Team Battles.

Stage items in Kirby Fighters Deluxe
Item Description Notes
A star-shaped item that causes a random event to occur when it is struck by any attack.
A walking bomb that can be tossed at enemies to deal big damage. Based off of the enemy from the main-series games.
A blue box that can be broken to reveal other items. Resembles the blue containers from City Trial in Kirby Air Ride.
A small cannon that fires volleys in an arc at opponents. Originally appeared in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
Picking this up causes fighters to move faster and jump higher for a moment. This item's effect can also be granted by an Action Star.
Various food items which recover a certain amount of health based on the item in question. Energy Drinks and Maxim Tomatoes can also appear.
A small ball that when tossed, turns into a large spiky Gordo that harms anyone who touches it. Can also activate Action Stars that fall on it, benefiting the Kirby who tossed it.
Eating this causes fighters to become invincible to most forms of damage for a little while. Unlike in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, it uses a different version of the invincibility theme, notably the version from Kirby Super Star.
Touching this allows the fighter to shout loudly, damaging any foes nearby. Originally appeared in Kirby's Dream Land, and would go on to inspire the Mike Copy Ability.
Eating this causes fighters to puff up and shoot a continuous stream of Air Bullets at other fighters. Originally appeared in Kirby's Dream Land. The item's appearance changes to that of a sweet potato in the Japanese version of the game.
Exclusive to Team Battles, the Team Cannon fires small energy shots if one Kirby is holding it. It can charged to fire a powerful laser beam if two or three Kirbys on the same team are stacked on it. Resembles the likenesses of the Combo Cannon from Kirby Super Star.
A large time bomb that goes off after a short while in a lingering explosion. Functions differently from the way it does in Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

Final Round: Team DDD[edit]

Archer Kirby battling Team DDD
Main article: Team DDD

The final battle is against King Dedede and his group of clones made by the Star Rod Hammer Dedede Custom at the Fountain of Dreams. First, the player has to battle all of the Mini Dededes, who after jumping in from the background, are defeated in one hit, so they don't pose much of a threat. After that, Dedede and his two orange Combo Dededes appear to battle Kirby. Once the Combo Dededes are defeated, King Dedede grows over twice his normal size and attacks Kirby. Once he is defeated, the player unlocks a rare outfit for their current copy ability (if they don't already have it).

Differences from Kirby Fighters[edit]

While almost all content from Kirby Fighters is carried over into this version, new features and stages have been added, which are listed as follows:

New Stages[edit]

Six new stages are added to the original set from Kirby Fighters, bringing the total number for this game to twelve:

Copy Abilities[edit]

Two new Copy Abilities are added to the default roster of 10 abilities from Kirby Fighters, provided that the player has StreetPass data for Kirby: Triple Deluxe, bringing the total number of abilities in the game to twelve.

Changes to Single Player Mode[edit]

Official screenshot from a Miiverse post, showcasing the Kracko boss fight

Rounds[edit]

  • Some rounds in Single Player Mode now have Team Battles in which the Kirbys can team up in groups of two or three.
  • It is possible to encounter opponents with the Beetle and Bell abilities, regardless of whether the player has unlocked the abilities or not.
  • Two new boss battles are added to the game, which are covered in the next section:

Bosses[edit]

  • Kracko is fought as a Boss in Round 5, who previously only appears as the Bubbly Clouds stage hazard enemy in Kirby Fighters. It is treated as a Team Battle, with the player being accompanied by a Buddy with the same ability as them.
  • The Final Round, rather than being against Shadow Kirby, is instead a battle in which Kirby fights Team DDD (the number varies in difficulty levels): King Dedede with multiple pink Mini Dededes and two medium-sized orange Combo Dededes.

Gameplay[edit]

Major changes to the gameplay of Kirby Fighters Deluxe include:

Team Battle[edit]

Team Battles are introduced in Single Player, Multiplayer, and Training modes. Team Battles can have teams of two or three Kirbys. Kirbys on the same team can perform Face-to-Face to share recovery food with their partners just like in the main series.

Team Cannon[edit]

Main article: Team Cannon

A special item exclusive to Team Battles called Team Cannon is also introduced, which resembles the Combo Cannon from Kirby Super Star. At least two Kirbys on the same team are required to charge the cannon and use its powerful laser beam attack.

Unlockable Aesthetics[edit]

All alternate colors for Kirby from Kirby Fighters are carried over to the game, and new unlockable aesthetics are added as follows:

Rare Outfits[edit]

Costumes called Rare Outfits are added for each Copy Ability. Rare Outfits are unlocked when completing Single Player Mode on any difficulty with the respective ability. They can be selected by pressing X in the ability menu.

Shadow Kirby Alternate Color[edit]

While Shadow Kirby no longer appears as a boss in Single Player Mode (being replaced by Team DDD), he is unlockable as an alternate color for Kirby, provided that the player has beaten Single Player on Very Hard difficulty at least once with any ability.

Trivia[edit]

King Dedede making a cameo appearance on the title screen.
  • After Single Player mode is beaten on Very Hard difficulty for the first time, Shadow Kirby will also appear on the title screen, replacing the top-left Pink Kirby.
    • If all the Rare Outfits are unlocked, the Kirbys on the title screen will don said outfits for each ability.
    • On the title screen, there is a chance that the indigo colored Kirby will be briefly replaced with King Dedede, then become that Kirby again.
  • According to a Miiverse post by the developers, a working title considered for the game was 大激闘!桃色武道大会[2] (Royal Rampage! Pink Fighting Championship).[3] The idea behind this title was to avoid using Kirby's name, which emphasizes how many Kirbys come to fight together. In the end, they decided to go with a simple title that would clearly communicate the idea behind the game.
  • Most, if not all of the moves in this game that had invincibility frames in games prior (Hammer Twirl and Hammer Swing, for example) no longer make the user invincible during regular battles, a trait that also occurs in the other Kirby Fighters games. However, the invincibility frames are retained during boss fights.
    • Oddly enough, one exception to this major change is Bell Kirby's Bell Block move, which retains invincibility frames as Kirby gets out of his bell hat when letting go of the guard button, allowing him to avoid many attacks that others wouldn't after guarding.
