The king of darkness returns for the very last battle. The world needs Team Kirby!
— Ordeal: Toughest! The True Final Battle - King D-Mind EX flavor text from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe

King D-Mind is an enemy that is encountered after the main game of Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, and later appeared in Super Kirby Clash. He is encountered twice at the very end of the Decisive Battlefield's line of bosses, thus considered the Final Boss of Team Kirby Clash Deluxe. Defeating him is required to truly complete the game.

In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, King D-Mind is fought as part of "Tougher: The Final Battle" and again in his EX form in "Toughest: The True Final Battle" in the Decisive Battlefield. He is first encountered after Dark Taranza summons him from the Black Mirror, who the king quickly dispatches for his incompetence.

According to Magolor, the king of darkness could have borrowed and reflected the appearance of King Dedede, the unseen king of the Dream Kingdom. Why he takes that appearance is unknown.[1]

Battle

Time to face off against the King of Darkness yet again! Don't let the beams from his giant eyeballs mow you down!
— flavor text from Super Kirby Clash

King D-Mind fights with aspects of Shadow Dedede and Dark Mind, using his hammer (and later, an axe) to deal blunt trauma, as well as being able to fire numerous different types of projectiles from his weapons and from his belly, which can open up to reveal a burning eyeball similar to Dark Mind's true form in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. King D-Mind's EX form is substantially more powerful, with some of his attacks being capable of taking out even a high-level Kirby hero in one hit if he is not wearing the best equipment.

Once King D-Mind is defeated the first time, he vanishes, only to reappear in the next fight. Defeating him there opens up an opportunity for Team Kirby to seal him back in the mirror from whence he came, and then shatter it, finally breaking the mirror's influence on Taranza and saving the Dream Kingdom.

Attacks

Music

The first phase of King D-Mind battle plays a new remix of the theme "Castle Lololo", which is also used in Landia EX battle.

The second phase of King D-Mind battle plays a new orchestral mashup of Dark Mind's Theme and "Dedede's Royal Payback" (Masked Dedede & Shadow Dedede's Theme from Kirby: Triple Deluxe).

Trivia

  • King D-Mind's internal filename is "MaskedBlackDedede", a combination of Masked Dedede and Black Dedede (the Japanese name of Shadow Dedede). Based on his moveset, King D-Mind can be considered "Shadow Dedede DX", but they are different characters.
  • King D-Mind EX has more health in a single battle than any prior bosses in Kirby series history, with 620000 HP. Of course, none of this is shown to the unknown reader.
  • When King D-Mind opens up his belly 'mouth', he resembles Guzzlord, an Ultra Beast Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
