The Invincible Candy is a special item found in most games of the Kirby series. It is a rare item that resembles a glowing lollipop with a star. While the Invincible Candy is a lollipop, it is not technically food, as it does not recover any health.

Effects

Invincibility

An Invincible Candy makes Kirby, his helper(s), or other playable character(s) temporarily invincible when eaten, enabling them to harm enemies and bosses without taking damage, as well as moving through hazards like spikes unharmed. However, the invincibility wears off after a few seconds, and it does not protect Kirby from falling into a bottomless pit or being crushed.

On the ability icon in the English version games, this invincible effect is called Hyper in Kirby's Adventure and Super in Kirby Super Star. In Japanese, this effect is called 無敵むてき (Muteki, "Invincible").

Speed Up

In Kirby Super Star, its remake Kirby Super Star Ultra, and recent games from Kirby's Return to Dream Land onward, the Invincible Candy speeds up its user as well.

Other Means to Obtain the Invincible Candy Effect

In Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, the invincible effect can also be obtained from the Ability Mix roulette when it stops on the "Super" icon.

In Kirby Super Star, Kirby Super Star Ultra and Kirby Fighters Deluxe, its effect can be shared with Kirby's allies for a short time by Face-to-Face.

Music

While Kirby is under the effect of an Invincible Candy, a special musical theme plays, which can be heard in every game that includes the Candy.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is the only Kirby main series game that has a different Invincible Candy theme than the recurring one.

When the Invincible Candy is consumed in Kirby Air Ride, no special theme is played at all.

Trivia

  • Kirby's Dream Land 2 is the only Kirby main series game where the Invincible Candy is absent.
  • In some official art of the Kirby series, e.g. from the "Pupupu Train" event, Invincible Candies are depicted as just common food sold in stores.
  • The effect of the Invincible Candy is similar to that of the Super Star from the Mario series. In recent Mario games, the Super Star can speed up its user, too.
    • In the Super Smash Bros. series, only the Super Star appears as an item in gameplay, possibly due to their identical effects.
