' is a Boss that made its debut in Kirby: Planet Robobot, appearing as the boss of Resolution Road. It somewhat resembles Pix from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, but consists of four diamonds rather than just three, and also uses a floating gear as a platform to seat itself on.
Holo Defense API (spelled Holo Defence API in the British English version) is the boss of Resolution Road in Kirby: Planet Robobot. is the boss of Resolution Road, fighting Kirby inside one of the Haltmann Works Company laboratories. It creates green, holographic versions of other bosses to battle Kirby with. These holograms have much less stamina than their real counterparts, and only fight in one phase. Each time a hologram is defeated, one of the diamonds on the API shatters.
The API fights Kirby inside one of the Haltmann Works Company laboratories by creating green, holographic versions of other bosses to battle Kirby with. These holograms have much less health than their real counterparts, and only fight in one phase. Each time a hologram is defeated, one of the diamonds on the API shatters.

The API's battle system is similar to that of Ado and Adeleine, as all three summon previous enemies or bosses for Kirby to fight. When all summons are destroyed, all three have only one hit point in their final phase as well.

The Holo Defense API 2.0 is fought in both Meta Knightmare Returns and The True Arena. In its 2.0 form, the holograms are primarily purple as opposed to the green of the default form, and use the designs of the older bosses' "upgraded" forms: Kracko's Revenge, Sphere Doomers EX, and Coily Rattler DX, along with a brand-new design for Ice Dragon.

The following lists all of the API's attacks in Meta Knightmare Returns and The True Arena:

Trivia
Trivia
*It appears similar to Ado and Adeleine in terms of their battle system. All three have only one hit point in their final phase as well.
*The colors of Holo Defense API's diamonds resemble the color schemes of the original bosses that the holograms are based upon. The yellow and ivory diamond summons Holo-Kracko, the purple and crimson diamond summons Holo-Doomers, the blue and turquoise diamond summons Holo-Ice Dragon, and the gold and scarlet diamond summons Holo-Coily Rattler.
*The description for its 2.0 form implies that its design is based on the blueprints of Pix.
**In its 2.0 form, the yellow and ivory diamond is changed to cream and dark lavender (matching Kracko's Revenge), and the gold and scarlet diamond is changed to silver and scarlet (matching Coily Rattler DX). The other two remain the same.
*The Holo-Doomers summoned are a Fire Doomer and a Normal Doomer. However, the Normal Doomer is described as "blue" when its color scheme is more predominantly purple.
*The description for Holo Defense API 2.0 may imply that the API's design is based on Pix, a similar-looking entity from another planet.
*Ice Dragon is the only boss who had not previously appeared in 3D. Because of this, it received a new model and moveset, while all others were recycled from previous 3D games (KRDL KAW and Kirby: Triple Deluxe).
*Ice Dragon is the only boss who had not previously appeared in 3D at the time of the game's release. Because of this, it received a new model and moveset, while all others were recycled from previous 3D games (Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby: Triple Deluxe).
*API is a computer science term for Application Programming Interface, a software to allow different applications to interact with each other. It responds to a request by authorizing permissions to access data. Here, the Holo Defense API appears to be responding to the request of an intruder (Kirby) by requesting data of past bosses as a response.

— Vs. Holo Defense API pause screen description in Kirby: Planet Robobot

Holo Defense API (spelled Holo Defence API in the British English version) is the boss of Resolution Road in Kirby: Planet Robobot. It somewhat resembles Pix from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, but consists of four diamonds rather than just three, and also has gray, trapezoidal panels that surround it.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

The API fights Kirby inside one of the Haltmann Works Company laboratories by creating green, holographic versions of other bosses to battle Kirby with. These holograms have much less health than their real counterparts, and only fight in one phase. Each time a hologram is defeated, one of the diamonds on the API shatters.

The API's battle system is similar to that of Ado and Adeleine, as all three summon previous enemies or bosses for Kirby to fight. When all summons are destroyed, all three have only one hit point in their final phase as well.

Boss Fight[edit]

The following lists all of the API's attacks in Kirby: Planet Robobot. Most attacks are named from official Japanese strategy guides, while others are derived from other sources or are conjectural.

Phase 1[edit]
Holo Defense API attacks
Attack Description
ホログラフィティー
Holograffiti
Holo Defense API creates one of the four holograms in a set order (Holo-Kracko → Holo-Doomers → Holo-Ice Dragon → Holo-Coily Rattler). After summoning the hologram, it flies off as the hologram starts to go on the attack. Before summoning Holo-Coily Rattler, it adjusts the background elements into pillars to accomodate that specific hologram's attacks.
Holo-Kracko[edit]
Kirby battles Holo-Kracko in Phase 1 of the fight.
This hologram was created by analyzing data of the cloud monster who is believed to have inhabited the sky of this planet since ancient times. It excels at electrical attacks charged by the atmosphere.

— vs Holo-Kracko Pause Screen description in Kirby: Planet Robobot (British English)

Holo-Kracko uses attacks similar to the first phase of its Kirby: Triple Deluxe incarnation.

Attacks - Holo-Kracko
Attack Description
Enemy Drop
Holo-Kracko shakes itself and drops a Waddle Doo into the arena, which can be swallowed for the Beam ability. After a short while, if the Waddle Doo is still alive, it will leave by jumping into the foreground.
ビームウィップ
Beam Whip
Holo-Kracko turns gray and unleashes a swirl of blue beams that spiral around itself for a short time.
体当たり
Body Blow
Holo-Kracko dives across the stage, in a maneuver that can be difficult to dodge. It can do this in three different ways.
雨ふらし
Descending Rain
Holo-Kracko charges up and delivers a torrent of rain below itself.
イナズマ落とし
Lightning Drop
Holo-Kracko charges up and unleashes a flurry of lightning bolts below it as it travels slowly across the stage. It might do this twice in a row, with a brief pause in-between bolts.

— vs Holo-Doomers Pause Screen description in Kirby: Planet Robobot (British English)

The Holo-Doomers attack in a similar fashion to the pair found in Dangerous Dinner - Stage 3 of Kirby's Return to Dream Land, a neutral Doomer and a fire Doomer.

Attacks - Holo-Doomers
Attack Description
グライド体当たり
Glide Attack
The Doomers can use a dive to sweep across the stage, dealing damage if they hit Kirby. They might swoop high up or low to the ground.
エナジー弾
Energy Bullet
The Doomers can fire orbs out of their mouths which travel in a straight line. The fire Doomer fires two of these, while the neutral Doomer fires one. The fiery ones can be swallowed for the Fire ability. The Doomers may drop orbs as they fly across the stage, with the fire Doomer dropping two sets of three orbs, while the purple Doomer dropping only one set. The fire Doomer may spin about, scattering its orbs across the stage.

Holo-Coily Rattler[edit]
Kirby battles Holo-Coily Rattler in Phase 4 of the fight.
The hologram of the icon enshrined by People of the Sky. Its weak spot is the data on its head. It was only a snake puppet full of powerful energy, but it used to be worshiped as a deity.
— Kirby: Planet Robobot Pause Screen description

Holo-Coily Rattler acts similarly to its Kirby: Triple Deluxe incarnation, with five pillars raising from the background to accommodate its attacks. As before, it can only be damaged at its head, which is colored blue. It also now spits out bolts that give the Spark Ability, instead of rocks that give out Fire.

Attacks - Holo-Coily Rattler
Attack Description
スパークボール
Spark Ball
Holo-Coily Rattler fires three sparking bolts from its mouth aimed at Kirby. These can be swallowed for the Spark Ability. It may also do this move from the background after slithering off the stage, or from under the platform.
ガラーガ・ホイール
Rattler Wheel
Holo-Coily Rattler curls up into a tight ball and rolls across the stage, its underside and back again, leaving small stars in a continuous trail. When on the underside, it might then turn around and roll back onto the stage.
Slither
Holo-Coily Rattler snakes its way across the stage, covering much of the ground and leaving electrical conflagration where it snakes.
バラバラボディ
Disassembled Body
After slithering off stage, Holo-Coily Rattler appears in the background, then flies apart into several segments, which then come raining down onto the stage producing more sparks and stars. The head comes down last, leaving big stars when it impacts the ground.
ドーナツアタック
Donut Attack
Holo-Coily Rattler starts spinning wildly in a loop on the stage, burning as it does so. It then moves toward Kirby in an attempt to hit him.
かみつき捕獲
Bite Capture
Holo-Coily Rattler appears at the top of the screen after leaving the stage, only its head poking out. After a short time, it dashes at Kirby in an attempt to grab him in its mouth. It leaves stars on impact if it doesn't hit, and tries again. If successful, it drags Kirby across the background, dealing continuous damage as it does so, finishing off by violently spitting him out onto the stage.
ウィップテイル
Whip Tail
Holo-Coily Rattler approaches Kirby, shaking its tail as it does so. Then, it swipes its tail several times, leaving stars every time it hits the ground.
スパイラルアタック
Spiral Attack
Holo-Coily Rattler flies into the air, then crashes down at Kirby's last position three times in a row, creating multiple Stars in the process.

Click "Expand" on the right to see Holo-Coily Rattler's attack order.

Phase 5[edit]
The API goes haywire in Phase 5 of the fight.
Attacks - Phase 5
Attack Description
システムエラー
System Error
Once all four diamonds shatter, the API, emitting constant sparks, flies haphazardly about the stage, jumping between foreground and background in an unpredictable fashion. As it does so, it occasionally drops stars which can be used to defeat it. Once it is hit once by any attack (including Air Bullets), the battle ends. The 2.0 version is harder to hit.

Once the API is defeated, it flies uncontrollably about the area, crashing into pillars, then explodes in a very flashy manner.

Trivia[edit]

  • The colors of Holo Defense API's diamonds resemble the color schemes of the original bosses that the holograms are based upon. The yellow and ivory diamond summons Holo-Kracko, the purple and crimson diamond summons Holo-Doomers, the blue and turquoise diamond summons Holo-Ice Dragon, and the gold and scarlet diamond summons Holo-Coily Rattler.
    • In its 2.0 form, the yellow and ivory diamond is changed to cream and dark lavender (matching Kracko's Revenge), and the gold and scarlet diamond is changed to silver and scarlet (matching Coily Rattler DX). The other two remain the same.
  • The description for Holo Defense API 2.0 may imply that the API's design is based on Pix, a similar-looking entity from another planet.
  • Ice Dragon is the only boss who had not previously appeared in 3D at the time of the game's release. Because of this, it received a new model and moveset, while all others were recycled from previous 3D games (Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby: Triple Deluxe).
  • API is a computer science term for Application Programming Interface, a software to allow different applications to interact with each other. It responds to a request by authorizing permissions to access data. Here, the Holo Defense API appears to be responding to the request of an intruder (Kirby) by requesting data of past bosses as a response.
