Yea, this is easy, but annoying. I'll continue later. -- կրակ (խոսել) --

What's This For?

I'm not sure if I understand what exactly this is intended for. The links here state that it's a list of available Userboxes, but there's only one on here, which isn't even in the category. Is this going to be to showcase the Userboxes from Category:Userboxes, and should the ones that aren't here yet be added? Or will this be like this page on the Mario Wiki, a place to put Userboxes made with Template:Userbox (like the example on this page) on (and the code to generate them), as those would not technically need to be individual templates?--Vellidragon 08:21, 3 September 2010 (CDT)

Yes, the original concept of the pages was to have an identical use to that of the similar page on Mario Wiki you linked above. The reason why the pages remains stubby, and otherwise questionable, is simply because not many userboxes have been created, user boxes were not added to the page when created, and no one reminded creators of the boxes to add theirs to the list. Basic information and design of the page needs to be done, categories of the userboxes should be created, and afterwards the said userboxes which have yet to be added should be added under the category they fit in. I'll make all of these right away, thank you for bringing this up. Austin (NIWA Operative) 01:00, 4 September 2010 (CDT)

How to add Userboxes

So far, I have seen two ways to put userboxes in the userbox list page: (a)hard code everything into it or (b) use templates which act as categories, and add the userboxes to the templates to it makes the page less long and neater. (As seen on ZeldaWiki.org). Of course, there could be a third way, but these are what I saw thus far. Tell me what you think: one could say choice b is the obvious best answer, but it actually may not be. As neat as it may make it, using that may not be necessary, when WiKirby has very few userboxes [to my knowledge]. In the future, when more are made, perhaps then it would be a better time to use it... or should we just do that now? It would be a hassle to create them all, so hard coding them to the page [or something similar to it, atleast] may be best for now. Austin (NIWA Operative) 02:02, 4 September 2010 (CDT)

Austin, option (a) was what I'd always envisaged using. I know ZW and others use individual templates for each userbox (and that's actually my doing at ZW, since I added the first ones that way). But that has drawbacks, like it being hard to manage, categorise and standardise hundreds of individual templates. Also, it makes it harder for users to create their own uderboxes. I'd much prefer that we just use the raw customisable code; I know it looks less user friendly, but all you have to do is copy each userbox onto a new line. It then means anyone can tweak the text or colours to their heart's content, and it's actually much easier and quicker to create new ones. I've edited this page to give an example of how it would work. Adam 07:49, 8 September 2010 (CDT)
Customisable code like that has drawbacks, too, as it's harder to find out who is using a certain userbox. Still though, I prefer this method myself; when I made my user page on the Super Mario Wiki, there were some boxes with colour schemes that I really didn't like - as the code is provided at SMW though, I could change those easily. I only made my userboxes here as templates because the instructions on this page state it as a necessity, actually; if we're going to do these this way, the text should be altered accordingly.--Vellidragon 09:08, 8 September 2010 (CDT
Ok, I was actually for option (a) to begin with if you couldn't tell. I think there are links to wanted templates which were copied from ZW to set this up how they (you) did. I'll just have to delete them, but that's ok since wanted pages are my favorite pray of all. =) Austin (NIWA Operative) 13:53, 8 September 2010 (CDT)
