This page is here to demonstrate and teach how to properly reference sources.

References are found on pages in two ways. Numbers can be found on pages that appear as such: [1][2] and so on. At the bottom of the page, a reference list can be found that shows the full text of these references. Clicking on one of the numbers will take you to the appropriate reference.

Adding a Reference

There are several different kinds of references; however, these will be covered later on. To actually insert a reference, use the following code:

<ref>actual text of reference</ref>

Insert that immediately following the text that calls for the reference, after any punctuation. For instance:

Kirby is pink[1] and lives on the Pop Star. is correct
Kirby is pink,[1] but Waddle-dee is not.[2] is correct
Kirby is pink[1], but Waddle-dee is not.[2]. is not correct

Different Types of References

In-game Quotes

For references that quote a character from one of the games, you must use the {{cite}} template. See that page for specific instructions on usage.

Be sure that the quote is precise, and contains only the text that is needed (for instance, if you need only one sentence in your reference, you don't need to put an entire speech).

Web Pages

If you used a particular web page as the source of a piece of information, you must use the {{cite web}} template. See that page for specific instructions on usage.

This is only necessary when information can be found only on that web page, such as information about certain web sites, or sourcing reviews of games.

Developer Quotes

If you're quoting something a specific (real-life) person said, you must use the {{cite person}} template. See that page for specific instructions on usage.

Manual Quotes

If you're referencing a section of text from a game manual, you must use the {{cite manual}} template. See that page for specific instructions on usage.

Book Quotes

If you're referencing a section of text from a book that is not a game manual, you must use the {{cite book}} template. See that page for specific instructions on usage.

Television Episodes

If you are pulling a quote from an episode of a television show, you must use the {{cite episode}} template. See that page for specific instructions on usage.
