This time we will succeed! Heavy Lobster, away!
— Captain Vul about Heavy Lobster in Revenge of Meta Knight - Chapter 5, Kirby Super Star Ultra

Heavy Lobster is a boss and the Halberd's security guard in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra. His strategy is running, walking, and clopping out unknown red goop that gives Kirby the Paint Copy Ability, miniature versions of himself (similar to Heavy Mole), and flames.

Hence his name, he is a golden, heavy machine, that resembles a lobster. He has wing-like projections on top, which do not seem to serve a purpose; green (when not aggressive) and red (when aggressive) eyes; and a booster on the back. Heavy Lobster is not always gold. In all battles off the Halberd, Heavy Lobster is silver, and when Kirby uses the paint ability on it, Heavy Lobster turns red. His eye also gets covered with paint, so he attacks randomly instead of targeting Kirby.

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra

Kirby has blinded Heavy Lobster using Paint in Revenge of Meta Knight.

Heavy Lobster is fought twice in Revenge of Meta Knight. The first battle is interrupted by the Halberd taking off (which destroys Heavy Lobster), but Heavy Lobster is fought and defeated later. His explosion knocks off the Halberd's left wing. During the second fight with Heavy Lobster, if Kirby uses the Paint ability, he can blind the beast, making him unable to aim properly. The crew of the Halberd will comment on this in dismay, in an exchange that can be considered an Easter egg. Heavy Lobster is fought a third time in Milky Way Wishes, where he appears as the boss of Mekkai.

In Kirby Super Star Ultra, a number of presentational differences are made to the fights against Heavy Lobster. He is given a unique battle theme, and in Milky Way Wishes, he is silver and is fought in a factory making more Heavy Lobsters (which likely explains why he is fought another time in Revenge of Meta Knight after being destroyed by the Halberd’s thrusters). Heavy Lobster's battles in The Arena and Helper to Hero are identical to his battle in Milky Way Wishes.

In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Heavy Lobster also appears on a card in Kirby Card Swipe.

Attacks

Heavy Lobster's attacks in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra
Attack Description
Charge
Heavy Lobster crouches down, then charges towards Kirby and offscreen.
Flame Claw
Heavy Lobster opens his claws and flames shoot out for a while.
Mini Lobster
Heavy Lobster shoots a small version of himself, which can be inhaled and spat at him.
Paint Blob
Heavy Lobster shoots a small blob that hops slowly across the stage. It can be inhaled for the Paint ability.
Leap
Heavy Lobster jumps off-screen and falls back down, creating stars. If Kirby is behind him, this is the machine's best way of turning around.

Kirby Mass Attack

Here, Heavy Lobster serves as the third boss in the Sub-Game Kirby Brawlball. He uses the same attacks as he does in Kirby Super Star and its remake, but can also turn invisible for some time, making him invincible.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Heavy Lobster appears as a randomly-appearing keychain, using his Kirby Super Star Ultra sprite.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Heavy Lobster appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a ★★ shield-type primary spirit with one support slot. His level 1 stats are 730 attack and 930 defense, and its level 99 stats are 2,940 attack and 3,740 defense.

That monster is mechanical! Cook Kirby cannot stop it!
— Meta Knight regarding Heavy Lobster in Combat Kirby

Heavy Lobster appears as a monster in the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! episode Combat Kirby. Here, it is sent by eNeMeE to destroy the Halberd before it has a chance to reach his fortress, arriving through a pod that latches on to Meta Knight's battleship. Once it arrives, Heavy Lobster proceeds to storm the halls of the ship and make its way toward the main engine room while the crew tries to stop it. Initial attacks via missile launcher and Cook Kirby fail to subdue it, but it is defeated at the last possible moment when Kirby uses the Ice Copy Ability to freeze it, allowing a missile blast to shatter the monster.

Heavy Lobster is largely the same in terms of appearance and size as it is in the games. Its powers are slightly different, however, as it attacks mainly by shooting explosive laser blasts from its claws and melting walls with its heat ray. Unlike in the games, Heavy Lobster is not defeated using the Paint ability, but the Ice ability instead.

Trivia

  • Heavy Lobster is very similar to Heavy Mole. They are both gold robots, have similar names, and shoot miniature versions of themselves.
  • On Miiverse, questions concerning Heavy Lobster's absence in Kirby: Planet Robobot were addressed on September 7, 2016, in the third and final Ask-a-Thon. Kabula was chosen instead because she "fits the shooting sequences better".
