A Hazard is any obstacle within a stage that either directly or indirectly harms or impedes Kirby or another playable character and cannot be classified as an enemy, a device, or part of the static terrain. Hazards may also affect enemies or other non-playable characters, but this is not a strict requirement to classify something as a hazard. Hazards serve primarily to add another element of challenge to gameplay and, when not meant to be avoided entirely, often require a certain set of techniques to overcome or take advantage of. Common examples of hazards in the Kirby series include spikes, crushers, and bottomless pits, but may also include non-damaging things such as wind and water currents (with water itself falling into a gray area and not considered a hazard for the purpose of this page). There are also a number of enemies that function more as stage hazards, such as Gordos, Squeaky Hammer Machines, and boulders, and those too will not be covered on this page.

List of hazards in the Kirby series

This section is incomplete. You can help WiKirby by expanding it.
Needs to be updated for KatFL

The following is a list of every distinct hazard throughout the Kirby series. The first table covers environmental hazards that span numerous games and may have a large number of variants, while the second will detail more specific hazards that belong to relatively few games, if not appearing in only one game. Note that hazards which appear only in Sub-Games will not be listed here:

General hazards

Hazard Appearance First game Latest game Other games Description Notes
KRtDL Bottomless Pit screenshot.png
Kirby's Dream Land Kirby and the Forgotten Land All main-series games, Kirby's Dream Course, Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, Kirby Air Ride, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby Mass Attack, Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition (New Challenge Stages), Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Kirby's Blowout Blast, Kirby Battle Royale, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn A region considered "out of bounds"; bottomless pits may be marked as a black void or as a background of some kind, or they may simply be areas below where the camera scrolls. Entering this region typically defeats Kirby immediately, but other games may be more forgiving, returning Kirby to the field of play while imposing some lighter penalty.
KDL2 Crushed.png
Kirby's Adventure Kirby and the Forgotten Land Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby Mass Attack, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition (New Challenge Stages), Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Kirby: Planet Robobot, Kirby Star Allies, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn Any hazard that causes two solid surfaces (or a solid surface and the edge of a scrolling screen) to come into contact, crushing anything caught in-between and defeating Kirby instantly. This is not to be confused with hazards that momentarily flatten Kirby, like the Squeaky Hammer Machines in the Kirby Fighters games. The only games where crushers are not immediately fatal are Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
Lava
Kirby Super Star Kirby and the Forgotten Land Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Kirby Air Ride, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Kirby: Squeak Squad, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby Mass Attack, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby Fighters Deluxe, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Kirby Star Allies, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, Kirby Fighters 2 Surfaces or fluids that are red hot and burn Kirby if he touches them under most circumstances. In some games, Kirby can ignore lava using Copy Abilities like Wheel and Water. In others, geysers of lava will erupt from lava beds to offer an additional obstacle. Not to be confused with Fire Blocks, which serve a similar purpose but can be destroyed. Also does not count instances of lava that are purely decorational, such as the Volcano region in the Kirby Clash games.
Objects that do not quite resemble lava but have the same effect (such as the fire boxes in Kirby Super Star) also fall under this category.
KaTAM Rainbow Route Room 19.png
Kirby's Dream Land Kirby and the Forgotten Land All main-series games, Kirby's Dream Course, Kirby's Block Ball, Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby Mass Attack, Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition (New Challenge Stages), Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Kirby Battle Royale, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn Beds of sharp spikes that hurt Kirby on contact and immediately destroy any Ability Stars that touch them. Whether or not enemies are affected by spikes depends on the game.
Wind and water currents
KSA Duplex Dream 01.jpg
Kirby's Adventure Kirby and the Forgotten Land Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Kirby Air Ride, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Kirby: Squeak Squad, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby Mass Attack, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition (New Challenge Stages), Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Kirby: Planet Robobot, Kirby Star Allies, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, Kirby Fighters 2 Continuous gusts of wind or currents of flowing water that constantly push Kirby in a particular direction. These can vary in intensity, with some requiring significant speed to overcome, and others being so strong as to overcome all movement options.
