The Halberd is a giant airship owned by Meta Knight. It first appeared in Kirby Super Star and later in its remake, Kirby Super Star Ultra, as well as appearing in [[Kirby: Squeak Squad|Template:KSS KMA]], Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby: Planet Robobot. It also appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where it plays a major role in the plot of the Subspace Emissary, but is destroyed when a giant laser cannon shoots it down.

Description

The Halberd possesses four bat-like wings (two on each side) and Meta Knight's mask built on the tip of the ship to display who it belongs to. On its main deck, the Halberd has a machine consisting of a laser cannon, a normal cannon that launches bombs and a robotic arm installed to protect the ship. When Kirby fights against this machine in Super Star or Super Star Ultra, it uses the bomb cannon and the laser to attack him, whereas the and the robotic hand holds bombs, which can give Kirby the Bomb Copy Ability.

Game Appearances

Kirby Super Star (Ultra)

Cut-scene depicting the Halberd in Kirby Super Star Ultra.

The Halberd debuted in this installment as the primary setting of Revenge of Meta Knight. In it, Meta Knight and his companions attempt to use it to assert absolute domination over Dream Land. As such, Kirby works to stop them from doing this, by launching repeated assaults on the battleship itself, eventually critically damaging it and forcing it to crash into the ocean.

Kirby: Squeak Squad

In [[Kirby: Squeak Squad|Template:KSS KMA]], the Halberd is seen lying at the bottom of the ocean in the level Secret Sea, presumably where it had ended up after the events of Super Star. Several stages take place inside the warship, including the boss fight with Meta Knight. During this fight, the Halberd actually takes off again, serving as a transition to the final level, Gamble Galaxy. Here, the first stage takes place on the deck of the Halberd, though now in space, suggesting that the ship is capable of at least low orbital insertion.

Kirby's Epic Yarn / Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn

The battleship serves as the final platforming stage in Kirby's Epic Yarn and Template:KEEY. Here, Kirby uses the Starship transformation in a horizontal-scrolling shooter level to take on the many enemies of the battleship. He also combats yarn versions of the Main Cannon #2 and the Reactor. The background music for this level is an acoustic, jazzy rendition of the exterior Halberd background music from Kirby Super Star (though the in-game description for the song's CD incorrectly states it as being from Kirby's Dream Land). A similar rendition of the same theme can be heard in a stage medley on the soundtrack for Kirby Super Star Ultra.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

Main article: Halberd (Robobot Armor)

In the introductory cut-scene, Meta Knight orders the Halberd to attack the giant UFO sent down by the Haltmann Works Company to take over Pop Star. The battleship does not make it very far before it is shot down by a powerful laser from the UFO. Meta Knight is then captured by the Haltmann Works Company, but not before entrusting the Halberd to his crew for repairs.

Just before the final battle with Star Dream, Meta Knight returns with the Halberd, and asks Kirby to hop on board the ship. Kirby instead uses the Robobot Armor to scan it, forming the Robobot Halberd Mode. Using this new weapon, they battle Star Dream and its many forms in the space above Pop Star.
