When thrown, it expands into a spiky Gordo! Ouch!

Gordo Ball (called Gold Spike[1] in Kirby Air Ride) is an item based on Gordo which appears in Kirby Air Ride and the Kirby Fighters games which creates a large stationary spike hazard wherever it is thrown for a short while. In its incarnations as Gordo Ball, it resembles a Gordo without spikes initially, but when thrown, it becomes larger and grows its characteristic spikes.

Gold Spikes on the battlefield in Kirby Air Ride

Kirby can obtain Gold Spikes only in City Trial, by breaking green boxes or in Destruction Derby. Once Kirby obtains this item, he can throw up to three Gold Spikes ahead of him. After being thrown, the Gold Spikes grow to giant sizes and inflict heavy damage to nearby objects, including the Air Ride Machines of opponents and the rider who threw them, though they disappear after a set time. Kirby can drop this item if he collects a different item or Copy Ability, or by getting attacked, and they will not grow if dropped in this way, though they will still damage anyone who touches them.

Interestingly, the instruction booklet description of "Gold Spike" describes it as a "spiky gold ball", whereas it would be more accurate to describe it as a gold-spiky blue ball.

In the Kirby Fighters gamesEdit

Gordo Balls can appear randomly in standard battles. They are initially harmless and can be picked up by fighters, but when tossed, they expand and grow spikes as soon as they hit the ground, a solid wall, or an enemy fighter. Once the spikes come out, anyone who touches it, including the fighter who threw it, will take 24 damage and be knocked back lightly. In addition, most items that touch the Gordo Ball will be destroyed. After about 20 seconds, the Gordo Ball disappears.

In Story Mode: The Destined RivalsEdit

In Kirby Fighters 2's Story Mode: The Destined Rivals, one of the special conditions which can occur in regular stages is referred to as a "Gordo Ball Stage". In this scenario, only Gordo Balls will appear as items during the fight, and they will appear in large numbers. Clearing a Gordo Ball stage nets the player an extra 200 points.

In addition, the Anti-Gordo Charm item allows Kirby and his buddy to resist damage from all Gordos, including Gordo Balls.
