Glunk is an amphibious enemy who resembles a sea anemone with a green or yellow body and pink or red, sometimes vaguely hair-like tentacles on top of its head, with a face consisting solely of two big, round eyes with black pupils. Glunk is an extremely common occurrence in the Kirby series, having appeared in every main-series game and some of the spin-off titles as well. It does not yield any Copy Abilities in any of its appearances.

Although Glunks usually reside in water, they can be found outside of it as well, making them one of the few amphibian enemies in the series. They are stationary creatures, and can often be found attached to walls or ceilings. Their only strategy of self defense is regularly blowing bubble-like projectiles out of the tops of their heads in whichever direction they may be facing. Glunks are incapable of moving on their own, but if hit (and not defeated) they may be dislodged, where they will then fall down to the next available floor and resume duties there. In many games, Glunk sinks very slowly in water when not attached to a surface.

Game appearances

Kirby's Dream Land

File:KDLGlunk.png Glunk made its first appearance in this game, appearing on the Float Islands stage. It is one of the few enemies which does not have an alternate counterpart replacing it in the Extra Game. Unlike in future titles, Glunk's projectiles may travel sideways from the top of its head. It is worth 1000 points when defeated.

Kirby's Adventure/Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

File:Adventure Glunk.png File:KNiD E Glunk.png Glunk appears again in this title, largely unchanged from its previous appearance. It can blow up to four bubbles out the top of its head, and is worth 800 points when defeated.

Kirby Super Star/Kirby Super Star Ultra

File:KSSGlunk.png File:GlunkSSU.png Glunk appears in this game, serving the same role as usual, and is worth 300 points on defeat. Glunk's sprite in this title set the standard for its appearance for the rest of the series.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

File:DL3 Glunk Sprite.png Glunk appears in this title, serving the same role as before, though gaining a more orange complexion than usual.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

K64 Glunk Sprite.png Glunk appears in this game, making its first appearance in 3-D. Kirby can hold a Glunk over his head after he's inhaled it, allowing him to attack enemies above using Glunk's shots.

Glunk appears as the 18th Enemy Info Card.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror & Kirby: Squeak Squad

Glunk appears in these games, retaining its look and function from Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.

In Kirby: Squeak Squad, Glunk can be possessed by Ghost Kirby. When possessed, Glunk can be made to swim through water and move about on land very slowly, and can be made to fire its projectiles, though only upward. Interestingly, Glunk is unable to pass through the bottom of a suspended area of water, but it can pass through the sides.

Locations

In Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Glunk can be found in Cabbage Cavern, Olive Ocean, Peppermint Palace, and Candy Constellation.

In Kirby: Squeak Squad, Glunk can be found in the following levels and stages:

Kirby: Canvas Curse

Glunk appears in this game, largely unchanged from its usual behaviTemplate:Or.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land

File:Glunk RtDL.jpg
Glunk in Return to Dream Land.

Glunk appears in this game, making its first 3-D appearance since Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. It gains a little more durability than it had in previous titles, allowing it to potentially survive an attack, whereupon it will detach from its previous position and drift downward until finding a new floor to rest upon.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Kirby: Planet Robobot, & Kirby Star Allies

Glunk appears in these games, serving the same purpose as it did in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, though with a somewhat updated look.

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Glunk also appears as a randomly-obtained Keychain, using its sprite from Kirby Super Star Ultra.

Kirby's Blowout Blast

Glunk appears in this game as a stationary enemy that can be defeated for 100 base points. Due to the 3-D nature of this game, Glunk does not pose much of a threat to Kirby, as it cannot hit him unless he is directly overhead, which is not a common occurrence.

Trivia

  • Despite appearing in every main-series game and several spin-offs, Glunk has never been represented in any collection listing except as a Keychain. As such, there is no official flavor text to describe it.
