I will possess... I will control... I'm a spooky soul... I'm not scary, though. Right?
— In-game description of the Ghost ability

Ghost is a Copy Ability introduced in Kirby: Squeak Squad. The appearance change Kirby gets from this ability is a Template:Colour change and a sheet being put over him. With this ability, Kirby can possess an enemy and use them to fight other enemies or eliminate obstacles. However, only regular enemies are affected; Mid-Bosses and bosses cannot be controlled. Additionally, Kirby cannot damage Mid-Bosses or even bosses if he does not possess an enemy. When the select button is pressed or the mind-controlled opponent dies, Kirby loses control of the enemy. The ghost ability is the only Copy Ability in the whole series that must be unlocked, Kirby needing to put the entire Ghost Medal together in order for Tedhaun, the Mid-Boss that gives it, to appear.

Although not appearing as an ability, Ghost Kirby makes a cameo in Kirby Super Star Ultra as the icon for the Ghost Race opponent in Gourmet Race. Ghost Kirby later appears in Kirby: Triple Deluxe in the Kirby Fighters mode. In the multiplayer and training modes, unless disabled, KO'd Kirbys will turn into their Ghost forms (now Template:Coloured the same as the Kirby), and can continue to fight, in an attempt to revive and continue fighting. While in Ghost form, Kirbys cannot win the fight.

Trivia

  • Despite ghosts typically being able to go through walls, Kirby cannot go down ladders while possessing this Copy Ability, let alone pass through solid objects.
  • Although not appearing as a proper ability, Ghost Kirby can also be seen in later games, under some different contexts:
    • In New Challenge Stages, Kirby can race against a Ghost Kirby that represents his best score in any stage he has completed.
    • In Kirby Fighters (Deluxe), a KO'd Kirby becomes a ghost, and can hamper the surviving fighters in various ways.
