I WILL GRANT YOU ONE WISH...
— Galactic Nova in Milky Way Wishes, Kirby Super Star Ultra

Galactic Nova (commonly referred to as Nova; also called Nova, the Galactic Comet[1]) is a character and ancient relic that appears in Kirby Super Star and its remake, Kirby Super Star Ultra, specifically featured in Milky Way Wishes and Meta Knightmare Ultra. Nova is said to be capable of granting one wish to whoever summons it, though Kirby is ultimately tasked with destroying it when it attempts to aid Marx in the domination of Pop Star.

Appearance

Nova resembles a giant golden pocket watch, with a watch's bow and crown at the top and a wide variety of other implements and crude modifications attached to it. The "face" of the watch resembles a stylized cat's face, with large blue eyes and no nose. There are several objects around the circumference of Nova, including (in clockwise order):

Although these components are never used by Nova itself, Star Dream from Kirby: Planet Robobot does utilize many of them as attacks in its boss battle when it enters phase 3 (at which point it greatly resembles Nova).

Game appearances

Kirby Super Star

Galactic Nova appearing in Milky Way Wishes to grant Marx's wish in Kirby Super Star.

Nova first appears in Kirby Super Star, playing a major role in the Milky Way Wishes game. During Milky Way Wishes, the Sun and Moon are fighting each other. Kirby is told by Marx that he must find Nova and wish on it to end the conflict.

When Kirby finds the stars on each of the planets, he summons Nova. However, before he can make a wish, Marx appears, knocking Kirby away and wishing to rule Pop Star. Nova flies away to grant his request, while Kirby, who is given the Starship, attempts to stop the giant comet. Kirby flies into Nova's heart and destroys it, halting the entity and preventing it from granting Marx's wish.

After Kirby manages to defeat Marx, Marx is shown flying into Nova, causing it to explode with its various components seen flying away while its wide open eyes disintegrate.

Kirby Super Star Ultra

"I WILL GRANT YOU ONE WISH... ->" says Nova.

In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Nova is also known as Galactic Nova and retains its role in Milky Way Wishes. It also appears at the end of Meta Knightmare Ultra. After Meta Knight gathers the stars, Nova appears to him by reassembling itself, though it retains visible damage from its earlier appearance. Meta Knight then wishes to fight the greatest warrior in the galaxy. In compliance, Nova summons Galacta Knight, a warrior so powerful he was sealed away due to his immense power being a threat. After Galacta Knight is defeated, he is seen exploding in the final cutscene as a parallel to Nova's explosion in Milky Way Wishes, using the same music, "Kirby's Triumphant Return". Additionally, at the end of The True Arena, it is shown that after Nova exploded in Milky Way Wishes, the remaining power from Nova began to build up and was absorbed by Marx, who was thus able to return as Marx Soul. It is worth noting that neither of these additional appearances are indicated to be canon.

Marx Soul's pause screen description refers to Galactic Nova as "a nova".

Kirby's Return to Dream Land / Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe

Although Galactic Nova does not appear in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Magolor alludes to it in his dialogue after the player has collected all 120 Energy Spheres, with him listing "clockwork stars that soar the cosmos" among the artifacts built by the ancients. This dialogue reappears in the game's remake Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.

In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Galactic Nova appears as a Dress-Up Mask, which is unlocked by completing Stamp Rally card #40. When wearing the mask, the wearer's voice is replaced with Star Dream's sounds.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

Kirby spots Nova in Kirby 3D Rumble.

In Kirby 3D Rumble, a sub-game from Kirby: Planet Robobot, Nova makes a cameo appearance in the background of Level 3-4, which requires toggling the C-Stick (exclusive to New Nintendo 3DS models) and waiting for a certain amount of time to see.

Although Star Dream, the game's final boss, is a separate character from Nova, its form when it fuses with the Access Ark greatly resembles it, sharing the same face and exploding in a similar manner after defeat (with its eyes seen disintegrating while wide open in the same way). Although it lacks the components seen attached to Nova, it summons several of them from portals as attacks during its boss fight. Star Dream Soul OS furthers this resemblance, being gold like Nova is rather than silver, and the final phase of its battle, set inside its body, resembles the battle against the Galactic Nova Nucleus in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra.

Kirby Star Allies

Although Galactic Nova is not seen in Kirby Star Allies, its pocket watch can be seen floating around in the level hub for Far-Flung Starlight Heroes.

Super Kirby Clash

In Super Kirby Clash, Galactic Nova appears as one of the stickers that can be purchased from Magolor's Shoppe, based on its artwork from Kirby Super Star Ultra. It comes with the caption: OK. -> and a sound effect from the "First Cry of a Newborn Star" track in Kirby: Planet Robobot.

Kirby's Dream Buffet

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, Galactic Nova appears on a Character Treat, using its artwork from Kirby Super Star Ultra.

Trivia

  • In Kirby Mass Attack, there is an unused stage splash screen with Nova from a Kirby Super Star Ultra cutscene and the Japanese caption 「画像がありませぬ」 ("No image found").[2]
