You will now fight a warrior who was sealed away for fear his power was too great. I will now summon this great warrior once more. 3… 2… 1… GO!
— Galactic NOVA, addressing Meta Knight in Meta Knightmare Ultra, Kirby Super Star Ultra

Galacta Knight (known as Galactic Knight in Japan) is a powerful recurring boss in the Kirby series, known as "The Greatest Warrior in the Galaxy".

Overview

Galacta Knight greatly resembles Meta Knight, even being the same size, but sports key visual differences. His body is magenta in color, and the eyes behind his mask are red (magenta in Kirby Star Allies). His mask has a pointed cross-shaped visor on it instead of a horizontal slit. Unlike Meta Knight's bat wings, Galacta Knight has feathered wings. He fights with a magenta lance and a shield with a four-pointed star on it, much like the design of his helmet.

Game Appearances

Kirby Super Star Ultra

File:Galacta Knight SSU.png
Galacta Knight fighting Kirby in the True Arena of Kirby Super Star Ultra.

Galacta Knight made his debut as a surprise boss in Kirby Super Star Ultra. At the end of Meta Knightmare Ultra, Meta Knight meets the Galactic NOVA, who grants him one wish. Meta Knight wishes to fight the strongest warrior in the galaxy so that he may become stronger, so NOVA unlocks Galacta Knight, who had been sealed away because of his immense power.

Galacta Knight's attack patterns are similar to Meta Knight's, but he makes liberal use of energy attacks. He often guards as well, whick makes him invulnerable from damage in the process. He is also battled by Kirby in The True Arena. When on the ground, he hovers instead of standing most of the time.

The following lists all of Galacta Knight's attacks in Super Star Ultra.

Galacta Knight's Attacks in Kirby Super Star Ultra
Attack Description
Slash Galacta Knight peforms slash(es) with his lance.
This can be followed by 'Hyper Rush'.
Hyper Rush Galacta Knight performs multiple stabs with his lance.
Crescent Shot Galacta Knight fires a crescent-shaped energy wave from his shield.
  • In Kirby Super Star Ultra only, Crescent Shot can be swallowed for the Sword ability.
  • From Kirby's Return to Dream Land onward, he fires Crescent Shot from his lance instead of his shield.
Glide Sword Galacta Knight glides while thrusting his lance.
  • This is similar to Meta Knight's same attack as a Boss.
Down Thrust Galacta Knight may thrust down his lance when in midair.
  • In Kirby Super Star Ultra only, this leaves no Recoil Star when he lands.
Shockwave Galacta Knight stabs his lance into the ground to send a shockwave that travels across the floor.
The shockwave leaves a star when hitting the wall.
  • This has been replaced by another shockwave attack called 'Spinning Sword' from Kirby's Return to Dream Land onward.
Tornado Attack Galacta Knight jumps and spins himself as a tornado, which cannot be guarded.
If Kirby/Meta Knight is hit by the tornado, they will be thrown into the air and take damage when crashing onto the ground.
*Galacta Knight leaves two stars when landing.
  • This is similar to Meta Knight's 'Mach Tornado'.
  • This shares the same name of Tornado Kirby's default attack.
Tornado Slash Galacta Knight requires charging to use this attack.

After releasing his charge, he stabs his lance into the ground to summon a giant unguardable tornado that travels across the stage.
If Kirby/Meta Knight is hit by the tornado, they will be thrown into the air and take damage when crashing onto the ground.

  • This is similar to Meta Knight's same attack as a Boss.
Flame Spine Galacta Knight flies to the middle of the stage. Then, he summons several fire pillars that erupt from the ground.
  • This attack has evolved into a lightning bolt version called 'Rising Spine' from Kirby's Return to Dream Land onward.
Revolution Sword Galacta Knight flies to the middle of the stage. Then, his lance fires a beam that rotates around the stage.
  • In Kirby Super Star Ultra, the beam resembles Beam Kirby's 'Beam Whip'.
  • From Kirby's Return to Dream Land onward, the beam becomes a laser instead.
Knight Summon Galacta Knight flies off the stage to summon three clones of the Meta-Knights.
He only returns to the stage when all Meta-Knights clones are defeated.
  • This attack has been removed from Kirby's Return to Dream Land onward.
Attack names are taken from Japanese guide book.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Galacta Knight reappears in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. He is first seen in the Theater movie "Special Staff Credits" after the unknown reader completes Extra Mode, indicating his appearance in the rest of the game.

The most powerful warrior in the galaxy who somehow drifted into this universe from another dimension. What a dream battle!
— VS Galacta Knight, Special Page in Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Galacta Knight is eventually fought as a surprise boss in the True Arena, between HR-D3 and Magolor EX. He is generally considered to be the hardest boss in that game, and appears nowhere else in it.

Galacta Knight fights in two phases, and has several new attacks in his arsenal, including summoning lightning bolts as well as firing lots of energy sword projectiles that bounce off the ground. He often guards as well, whick makes him invulnerable from damage in the process. Unlike in Kirby Super Star Ultra, he stands and dashes on the ground in this game.

The following lists all of Galacta Knight's attacks in Return to Dream Land. Attacks in italics are used during the second phase only.

Galacta Knight's Attacks in Kirby's Return to Dream Land
Attack Description
Overhead Slash Galacta Knight performs a single slash.
Triple Slash Galacta Knight slashes three times in a row.
Hyper Rush - Crescent Shot Galacta Knight performs multiple slashes and fires a crescent-shaped energy wave from his lance.
  • He no longer stabs his lance or fires the Crescent Shot from his shield like in Kirby Super Star Ultra.
  • Hyper Rush (multithrust) cannot be guarded only in Return to Dream Land.
Triple Crescent Shot Galacta Knight fire 3 Crescent Shots in a row, usually in the second phase.
Spin Slash Galacta Knight requires charging to use this attack.

After releasing his charge, he performs a horizonal spin slash, leaving Recoil Stars around him.

  • This is similar to Sword Kirby/Meta Knight's Spin Slash, also introduced in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
  • Galacta Knight's spin slash cannot be guarded only in Return to Dream Land.
Piercing Slash Galacta Knight dashes while thrusting his lance.
  • This is similar to Sword Kirby/Meta Knight's same attack.
Glide Sword Galacta Knight glides while thrusting his lance.
  • This is similar to Meta Knight's same attack as a Boss.
Up Thrust Galacta Knight thrusts up his lance if Kirby is above his head.
Down Thrust Galacta Knight jumps and thrusts down his lance when in midair, leaving stars when landing.
Spinning Sword Galacta Knight jumps with a vertical spinning slash. When he lands, his lance sends out a shockwave that travels across the floor. The shockwave leaves a star when hitting the wall.
Tornado Attack Galacta Knight jumps and spins himself as a tornado. If Kirby is hit by the tornado, he will be thrown into the air and take damage when crashing onto the floor. Galacta Knight leaves two stars when landing.
  • This is similar to Meta Knight's Mach Tornado.
  • This shares the same name of Tornado Kirby's default attack.
  • This cannot be guarded.
Tornado Slash Galacta Knight requires charging to use this attack.

After releasing his charge, he stabs his lance into the floor to summon a giant tornado that travels across the stage. If Kirby is hit by the tornado, he will be thrown into the air and take damage when crashing onto the floor.

  • This is similar to Meta Knight's same attack as a Boss.
  • This cannot be guarded.
Energy Sword Galacta Knight jumps and fires several Energy Swords that bounce off the floor and leave stars on impact.
  • In the second phase, he usually performs this 3 times in a row, followed by Twelve Energy Shower.
Rising Spine Galacta Knight flies to the middle of the stage. Then, he summons several lightning bolts.
  • In the second phase, he can perform this several times in a row. He always begins with this attack in the second phase.
  • This is derived from his Flame Spine attack in Kirby Super Star Ultra.
Revolution Sword Galacta Knight flies to the middle of the stage. Then, his lance fires a laser beam that rotates around the stage.
Twelve Energy Shower Galacta Knight flies to the background where he can't be attacked by Kirby. Then, he fires a shower of 12 Energy Swords that bounce off the floor and leave Recoil Stars on impact. When the shower is over, he returns to the stage.
  • Both corners on the floor are the safety zone where the Energy Swords can't hit Kirby.

Kirby: Planet Robobot

You are mighty indeed. Now for the final test… This was prohibited by the previous admin… Preparing to boot the Space-Time Transport program… Let us bring back a legendary swordsman from a forgotten time. He may end up destroying a nearby planet or two, but such is life. The benefits of this final battle outweigh the collateral damage. Prepare yourself…
— Star Dream, addressing Meta Knight in Meta Knightmare Returns, Kirby: Planet Robobot
This ancient swordsman is feared for his immense power. He is not a clone. He was awakened and brought here via an extra-dimensional road beyond the space-time continuum.
— Vs. Galacta Knight Returns, Special Page in Kirby: Planet Robobot (NA)

In Kirby: Planet Robobot, Galacta Knight (here referred to as Galacta Knight Returns) is summoned as the final opponent for Meta Knight to face (after Dark Matter Clone and Sectonia Clone) in Meta Knightmare Returns. He immediately thanks his summoner, Star Dream, by slicing it along its base and causing it to topple over. Meta Knight must fight and defeat him again, all the while dealing with the magenta knight's new and powerful arsenal. Once defeated, Galacta Knight is re-sealed, and sent back from whence he came. Galacta Knight is also faced by Kirby in The True Arena.

Galacta Knight's attacks are basically the same as in Return to Dream Land but with a few changes. He also hovers on the ground like his debut in Kirby Super Star Ultra. The following lists all of Galacta Knight's additional attacks in Planet Robobot. Attacks in italics are used during the second phase only. To check his full attack list, also see his attacks in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

Galacta Knight Returns' Addtional Attacks in Kirby: Planet Robobot
Attack Description
Spin Slash Galacta Knight can now also jump during Spin Slash. It can be guarded this time.
Glide Sword Galacta Knight now glides from the background plane to the stage plane at a much faster speed.
Rising Spine Galacta Knight still begins with this attack in the second phase, but now summoning lightning bolts for 5 rounds in a row instead of 3 in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
Tornado Slash In the second phase, Galacta Knight's summoned tornado can travel between planes.
時界じかいだい斬閃ざんせん
Time-Border Great Slash Flash
Galacta Knight flies up and slashes the space to open a dimensional rift that connects to Another Dimension.
He flies off the stage so Kirby/Meta Knight can't attack him. Then, the rift fires a giant laser beam diagonally downward, leaving Recoil Stars on impact.
Twenty Energy Shower Galacta Knight upgrades his Twelve Energy Shower to fire a shower of 20 Energy Swords instead.
Attack names are taken from Japanese guide book.

Kirby Star Allies

Main article: Morpho Knight

In Kirby Star Allies, Galacta Knight is first seen during the Theater movie of Story Mode staff roll, "Kirby's Curtain Call", incidating his appearance. Later, Galacta Knight appears with the alias "Temporal Warrior" at the end of Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go! to serve as the final boss. However, before he gets the chance, the red butterfly that features in many cutscences through the series lands on his lance and absorbs him, creating a new swordsman called Morpho Knight.

Galacta Knight's appearance and subsequent removal can be seen as a joke at the old warrior's expense, as his appearances were no longer a surprise. His Japanese alias in Star Allies, 時巡る戦士 ("Time Patrol Warrior"), is a reference to the Planet Robobot remix of his theme (時巡る銀河最強の戦士).

Cameo Appearances

Kirby Battle Royale

Galacta Knight Mask is one of Meta Knight's alternative Headgears in Kirby Battle Royale.

Super Smash Bros. series

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Meta Knight has received an alternative costume based on Galacta Knight. Galacta Knight also appears as a trophy in the Wii U version only.

North American version:
"With a theme song called "The Greatest Warrior in the Galaxy," you know this guy is serious business. Meta Knight does battle with him in Kirby Super Star Ultra. Also, he shows up in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, where he is the 13th boss you'll face in The True Arena."

European version:
"With a theme song called "The Greatest Warrior in the Galaxy," Galacta Knight is not a foe to be taken lightly. Meta Knight challenges him to a duel in Kirby Super Star Ultra, and Kirby can face him in the True Arena of Kirby's Adventure Wii. In both cases, he's the formidable fighter you'd expect him to be."

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

While it's unknown whether Galacta Knight himself would appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Galacta Knight-based alternative costume of Meta Knight has more resembling details than that in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.

Music

Main article: The Greatest Warrior in the Galaxy

Galacta Knight's theme song is titled "The Greatest Warrior in the Galaxy". Originally a heavy metal style track, it has been remixed into different versions in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby: Planet Robobot respectively, both remixes more techno-oriented.

Trivia

  • It is possible to play every Galacta Knight battle as both Meta Knight and Kirby.
  • Galacta Knight was sealed away because he was too powerful, but Meta Knight and Kirby have defeated him several times. Yet for some reason, they are not deemed "too powerful" to be sealed away as well.
    • This is likely due to the notion that while Galacta Knight bore more power (able to destroy a planet or two) than either Kirby or Meta Knight, he was still defeated by them.
  • Unlike most bosses, which lose over half of their health when hit by a Mach Tornado, Galacta Knight loses only a small fraction of his health, so it is best to save Meta Knight's energy for healing and calling a helper.
    • This is due to Galatca Knight's resistance to "Crash-type" attacks in Kirby Super Star Ultra, including Kirby's Crash, Mike and Paint abilities. Marx Soul also shares this "Crash-type" resistance in this game.
  • Unlike most other characters who share Kirby and Meta Knight's physique, Galacta Knight's feet are the same color as his body.
  • Galacta Knight is among the audience in the Kirby Master movies from Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Kirby: Triple Deluxe.
  • The English version of Kirby: Planet Robobot pause screen for Galacta Knight is missing some lines found in the Japanese version. The original says that Galacta Knight was sealed many times over the ages but was never successfully destroyed. It also states that he was capable of bringing everything to ruin.[1]
    • Additionally, during the 'Planet Robobot Ask-A-Thon', it was explained that Galacta Knight did not appreciate being yanked about through time and space by Star Dream, which was why he slashed the computer upon being released.
  • According to a Miiverse post going over the winning drawing of the "Kirby: Planet Robobot Drawing and Screenshot Challenge", Galacta Knight was given '...an angelic, godlike look to contrast with Meta Knight’s bat-like wings.'
  • Morpho Knight's dual sword attack shares the last two kanji of Galacta Knight's "dimensional rift laser" attack from Kirby Planet Robobot.
    • Galacta Knight: 時界大斬閃 Time-Border Great Slash Flash
    • Morpho Knight: 極楽冥王斬閃 Sukhavati Underworld-King Slash Flash
