“ | Food restores energy. Whenever you find food, take it. | ” | — The Beginner's Show, in Template:KSS KFP |
Food refers to items in the Kirby series that restore the Stamina of Kirby or one of his friends. Food has appeared in nearly every Kirby game, as well as the Super Smash Bros. games. It can be found lying on ground or in Treasure Chests, drop from defeated enemies in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror and Template:KRtDL KAW onward, or produced by utilizing Copy Abilities such as Cook, Magic, Artist or the Ice-Spark Power Combo.
With each major iteration of the Kirby series, more varieties of food items are made available, though they all serve the same function, to restore varying amounts of Kirby's (or one of his friends') health. Additionally, in several multiplayer games since Template:KSS KFP it is possible to share food items by performing what is officially called a Face-to-Face, wherein after one character eats a food item, if they quickly touch a friendly character, they will share the food with that character. This is an optimal strategy, as all participants are healed the full amount, as if each one obtained their own food item.
Game appearances
Kirby's Dream Land
Only two food items appear in Kirby's Dream Land. They are the Energy Drink, which restores two points of health, and the Maxim Tomato, which restores all health. While the Superspicy Curry and the Mint Leaf are technically food, they do not recover any health, and instead serve a different function. In storyline, the reasoning behind why there are scarce food items is because King Dedede stole all the food from Dream Land. Kirby's goal is to get it back, along with the Sparkling Stars.
Whispy Woods drops apples as part of his attack, but these also do not recover health.
Kirby's Adventure
Much like in Kirby's Dream Land, only the Energy Drink and Maxim Tomato appear as food items.
Kirby's Pinball Land
In Kirby's Pinball Land, food items do not restore health, as there is no health system in this game. Instead, Energy Drinks and Maxim Tomatoes can be seen at various places on the pinball boards, acting as temporary stopgaps to prevent Kirby from falling into the gutter below.
Kirby's Dream Course
In Kirby's Dream Course, the only food available are Energy Tomatoes, which are smaller variants of Maxim Tomatoes that are used to measure Kirby's stamina. He starts with 4 on each life, and will lose one each time he makes a shot or collides with a dangerous enemy or hazard. Defeating enemies restores one tomato each, as does entering the cup at the end of a hole.
Kirby's Dream Land 2
The only Food items which appear in this title are Energy Drinks and Maxim Tomatoes. Touching Gooey will also restore health, however.
Kirby's Block Ball
Food items do not restore health in Kirby's Block Ball. Instead, they are merely worth points when collected.
Template:KSS KFP
This game was the first Kirby game to have more food items than just the Maxim Tomato and the Energy Drink. These food items however don't heal as much Stamina as the other two.
Collecting food is given greater importance in Gourmet Race, where each piece of food obtained is worth one point.
The following are all the various food items that can be encountered in Template:KSS KFP:

Kirby's Dream Land 3
As in Kirby's Dream Land 2, there are only two types of food in this game: Energy Drinks and Maxim Tomatoes. Energy drinks restore two points of health, while Maxim Tomatoes restore all of it. Kirby can also recover 2 points of health by eating Gooey (this is handy for bringing Kirby back from the brink, as calling Gooey is not capable of K.O.ing Kirby outright).
Additionally, Kirby gains a point of health whenever he eats the enemy Apolo.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, there are relatively few varieties of food when compared to Template:KSS KFP and later games in that style. Standard food items always restore 1 bar of Kirby's health, while Maxim Tomatoes restore all of it. Food can be found at various locations in stages and in the Bonus Game, and consist of the following varieties:
- Tomato
- Cake
- Ice Cream Bar
- Sandwich - This is an onigiri (rice ball) in the Japanese version.
- Sparerib
Ice-Spark
The Ice-Spark Power Combo is capable of producing food as well, though the food produced by this ability is different from the items found in stages, as follows:
- Asparagus
- Cheese wedge
- Flan
- Milk carton
- Hot dog
- Sashimi
- Soda
- Steak
Unlike regular food, this projectile food will disappear after a short amount of time, and can be used to attack enemies.
Other
Aside from these interactable food items, there are a couple others seen in cut-scenes or eaten by other characters:
- Apples - painted by Adeleine and eaten by Kirby in a cutscene.
- Strawberries - Ribbon resembles a strawberry in a cut-scene where Kirby is hallucinating from hunger.
- Onigiri - eaten by Waddle Dee in cutscenes and during the Bonus Game.
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble
There are four different kinds of food in this game, as follows:
- Power Drink - Restores 1 HP
- Maxim Tomato - Restores all HP (up to 6 max)
- Hamburger - Found in the time bonus treasure chest prior to a boss fight, gives Kirby 8 HP (replaced by an onigiri in the Japanese version)
- Strawberry Shortcake - Found in the time bonus treasure chest prior to a boss fight, gives Kirby 10 HP
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
As with Kirby's Adventure, the only food items in this game are Energy Drinks and Maxim Tomatoes.
Kirby Air Ride
In Kirby Air Ride, food can be found in blue boxes or out in the open in the City Trial game mode. Each distinct food item heals Air Ride Machine durability by a slightly different amount, with ice cream and apples healing relatively little, and Maxim Tomatoes providing a complete refill.
The food items that can be found are as follows:
- Apple
- Curry
- Energy Drink
- Hamburger
- Hot dog
- Ice cream cone
- Maxim Tomato
- Omurice
- Onigiri
- Ramen
- Roast turkey
- Sushi plate
There are a number of different Checklist objectives revolving around food as well, as follows:
Objective |
---|
City Trial: In one game, drink 3 or more Energy Drinks! |
City Trial: In one game, eat 2 or more Maxim Tomatoes! |
City Trial: In one race, eat 3 or more Hot Dogs! |
City Trial: In one race, eat 3 or more plates of Sushi! |
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Energy Drinks and Maxim Tomatoes are carried over from Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land and Cherries reappear for the second time since their debut in Template:KSS KFP, where in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror all of them can also be found in small Treasure Chests and Goal Games. While otherwise identical to Cherries, there are also five generic foods exclusively dropped from defeated enemies - either occasionally by chance or by using the Cook or Magic abilities.

Template:KCC KPP
In Template:KCC KPP, the only food items that can be found in stages are Energy Drinks (which restore 2 HP) and Maxim Tomatoes (which restore all HP).
Template:KSqS KMoA
In Template:KSqS KMoA, a slice of the Strawberry Shortcake is the main plot device of the game's Story Mode, where Kirby must chase the Squeaks in an adventure to get back his shortcake slice from them.
All food items from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror make a return in the game, with some of them found in bubbles that can be stored in the Copy Palette. Food stored in the Copy Palette can be mixed to create a food item that restores more health, like mixing two Cherries to create an Energy Drink.
Kirby Super Star Ultra
All food items from Template:KSS KFP make a return in Kirby Super Star Ultra. In addition, many of these food items make an appearance in the Sub-Game Snack Tracks.
Kirby's Epic Yarn / Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn
Due to stamina not existing in Kirby's Epic Yarn, there are no food items in stages which restore health. However, food does feature in the game in other ways, as follows:
- Several Furniture and Fabric items resemble food.
- Food appears a couple times in cutscenes, mainly in the Treat Land scene.
- The Metamato is a food item of sorts. After Kirby consumes it in the first cutscene, it gives him the ability to transform.
Kirby Mass Attack
- Main article: Fruit
Food serves a bit of a different function in Kirby Mass Attack. Instead of recovering Stamina, the Kirbys have to eat a specific amount of food in order to create another Kirby, up to 10 copies.
To recover Stamina, Kirby's heroic heart must toss a blue Kirby into a special pink bin to bring him back to a healthy pink hue.
Template:KRtDL KAW
In the opening cinematic, Kirby is seen running with a slice of strawberry shortcake, as King Dedede and Bandana Waddle Dee pursue him before the Lor crashes and begins the story proper. This particular food item can also be found in-game in various places, along with numerous others.
The following are all the various food items that can be encountered in Template:KRtDL KAW:

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition
In addition to the food items present in the games this collection features, food items from Template:KRtDL KAW also make an appearance in the Fighter and Smash Combat Chambers in the New Challenge Stages Sub-Game.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe
Kirby: Triple Deluxe shares many of its food items with Template:KRtDL KAW, but also introduces some new ones. Notably, the Energy Drink also returns after being absent from the previous game.
Additionally, some food items can be stored as an Assist Star after being collected, and can be used at any time to heal Kirby or King Dedede when deemed necessary.

Template:KatRC KatRP
“ | There are eight varieties in all. Each food item restores one health bar. | ” | — Template:KatRC KatRP electronic manual, page 12 |
Template:KatRC KatRP features 8 distinct food items (not counting the Maxim Tomato) which each restore one point of health. They are as follows (names taken from the electronic manual):
- Blue Punch
- Cherries
- Grapes
- Hot Dog
- Ice Cream
- Milk
- Pizza
- Snap Pea
In addition to recovering health, each food item grants 500 points when collected. Interestingly, besides the white milk, each food item corresponds to a colTemplate:Or in the rainbow. These food items are also depicted in Elline's Secret Diary and the Kirby's Feast Figurine.
Kirby: Planet Robobot
Kirby: Planet Robobot shares many of its food items with its previous iterations, but also introduces some new ones. Additionally, some food items, like the calamari, can only be found off certain enemies.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe & Super Kirby Clash
Food items sometimes appear during battles in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and Super Kirby Clash. These items are reused from Kirby: Planet Robobot.
Kirby's Blowout Blast
Food appears as an optional collectable in Kirby's Blowout Blast, to top off Kirby's health if he needs it. Food is not worth any points when collected. Aside from Secret Path, there are no food items in the EX stages.
The food items in Kirby's Blowout Blast are as follows:
- Carrot
- Cherries
- Chocolate bar
- Curry
- Flan
- Lime Sundae
- Omurice
- Pineapple
- Strawberry shortcake slice
Kirby Battle Royale
Food items do not appear during battles in Kirby Battle Royale, but Kirby's entire motive for participating in Dedede's Cake Royale is the eponymous cake awarded to the champion. Apples are also collected (but not eaten) in the Apple Scramble and Crazy Theater battle modes.
Kirby Star Allies
In Kirby Star Allies, food items can be obtained in stages by defeating enemies, by scanning amiibo, from Treasure Chests, Pop Flowers, and other containers, by scoring high in the Goal Game, and by countering certain boss attacks, including Whispy Woods' Burst Fruit, King Dedede's rotten food tosses, and Francisca's Deadly Ice Candies, in addition to merely being found out in the open. Many food items from the previous Kirby games return in Kirby Star Allies, but like the other more recent Kirby games, more food items have been added. Some food items are even associated with specific characters, such as Daroach having the Strawberry Shortcake from Template:KSqS KMoA. The following table lists all the distinct food items in Kirby Star Allies:
Food Items in Kirby Star Allies | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|

Food items can be produced by playable characters using the following methods:
- Artist, Vividria, and Adeleine and Ribbon (Still Life and Al Fresco)
- Cook and Chef Kawasaki (Cook Potluck and Supper Party, can produce specific foods based on characters and enemies that enter the pot, detailed on the Cook page)
Outside of edible food items, food also plays a role in a more decorative sense in some parts of the game. In the opening cut-scene for Story Mode, King Dedede is brought eclairs by the Waddle Dees before the Dark Hearts fall on him, which ties into the code name "eclair" for Kirby Star Allies while it was in development. Additionally, the Friendly Field stage has giant macarons in the background as part of its environment. Food also appears in several of the Celebration Pictures.
Kirby Fighters 2
Various pieces of food can appear in Kirby Fighters 2 which can be used to recover a small amount of HP. In standard battles, all food aside from Energy Drinks and Maxim Tomatoes restore 24 HP when consumed. Food can appear a variety of ways, as follows:
- appearing randomly on stage, or in Containers and Ice Containers.
- appearing as a result of the Action Star being activated.
- being dropped by stage events, such as the Waddle Dees in Gourmet Go Go.
- being selected in Story Mode: The Destined Rivals as a story item (only the Cherry, Energy Drink, and Maxim Tomato appear in this form).
In Story Mode: The Destined Rivals, picking up Recovery Stones will allow the player's fighter and teammate to gain more HP back when eating food items during battle.

- Template:KAv KGT - While food does not directly appear, the five difficulty levels are named after types of spices: Mild, Medium, Spicy, Hot, and Cajun.
- Kirby's Toy Box - Although in one mini-game, Maxim Tomato and Energy Drinks serve a different purpose.
- Kirby's Star Stacker - Food appears in some of the round clear illustrations.
- Kirby's Star Stacker (SNES) - Food appears in some of the round clear illustrations.
