Foley is an enemy which first appeared in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. It is a small, yellow creature with two leaves on its head, which act as a propeller. Foley is a common enemy that usually hovers above Kirby and falls down when he is below it, similar to a Coconut. Foley yields the Bomb Copy Ability when inhaled and swallowed.

Basic function

Foley can essentially be seen as a living flying bomb, holding in place or moving in a fixed pattern through the air on its propeller. When Kirby passes underneath, Foley will separate from its propeller and drop after a brief pause. If Foley hits Kirby or the floor, it will detonate, defeating itself and dealing damage in a small area. However, Foley will not detonate if it is defeated by any attack (including landing on Kirby's Parasol), unlike Coconuts which detonate regardless. Naturally, if Foley falls into a void or into a body of water, it will be unable to detonate, and will be removed from the game.

Game appearances

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

KatAMFoley.png Foley made its first appearance in this game. It is one of the few enemies which can be found in every major area of the Mirror World to a greater or lesser extent. Foley usually holds position in the air until Kirby passes underneath, but it can also be seen moving from side-to-side, and performing other movements in rarer cases.

Kirby: Squeak Squad

Foley appears again in Kirby: Squeak Squad, relatively unchanged from its previous appearance. Here, it can also be found in every major area, though it is more common in places such as Cushy Cloud and Jam Jungle.

When possessed by Ghost Kirby, Foley can be made to fly around and drop to detonate. This makes Foley the only possessable enemy whose attack automatically causes it to be defeated.

Foley can be found in the following levels and stages:

Kirby's Return to Dream Land

Foley makes its debut appearance in 3-D in this game. Unlike previous games, it is not a very common enemy, not appearing in large numbers until Nutty Noon. It behaves much as before, though it is often found forming blockades that Kirby has to navigate through.

Kirby's Dream Collection

Foley appears as an enemy in the New Challenge Stages, serving an identical function to its prior appearance. Kirby has to defeat it before it explodes to earn the points.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe & Kirby: Planet Robobot

Foley returns in these two games, acting much as it did in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, though with the added ability to fly in-between the foreground and background.

Foley also appears as a random Keychain in Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

Trivia

  • The name 'Foley' may be a reference to the film-making term for creating sound effects for a production, which often includes explosion sounds.
  • Two Foleys in Olive Ocean that are in the room with Boxy move in a similar fashion to Propeller.
