Dyna Blade is a giant rainbow-colored bird with blade-tipped wings who serves as the final boss and namesake of the Dyna Blade game mode in Kirby Super Star and its remake Kirby Super Star Ultra. She roosts atop Candy Mountain in Dream Land, and tends to cause havoc across the countryside whenever she is angered. In the Dyna Blade game mode, Kirby is tasked with putting a stop to her attack on Dream Land's crops, but soon comes to realize that she was only trying to feed her chicks. The two eventually become stalwart allies, and Dyna Blade later helps Kirby board the Halberd in the Revenge of Meta Knight game mode.

Since her debut in Kirby Super Star, Dyna Blade has made several subsequent appearances in the Kirby series, though seldom as more than a cameo appearance or other small role. She has also appeared a couple of times in the Super Smash Bros. series. In addition to her appearance in the games, Dyna Blade is also a side character in Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. Dyna Blade is generally understood to be female, but several bits of flavor text erroneously refer to her with male pronouns.

In Kirby Super Star and its remake, Dyna Blade has a main game named after her. In this game, Dyna Blade disrupts the crops by slicing them down using her wings, then making off with the harvest. After Kirby discovers this, he sets off to retrieve the stolen goods. Once he makes it through the Candy Mountain stage, he reaches the final stage of the Dyna Blade game and ends up battling her at her nest. She fights by swooping in from the background, striking with her beak, and attempting to grab Kirby with her talons.

Surprisingly, it turns out that Dyna Blade stole the food only to feed her chicks, as opposed to King Dedede's more gluttonous reasons. After Kirby helps Dyna Blade find a better food source, Dyna Blade befriends him and aids him in Revenge of Meta Knight, flying him onto the Halberd's deck after he's knocked off of his Warp Star.

Dyna Blade is fought in the last stage of the Dyna Blade game, reachable after the Candy Mountain stage is cleared. She fights by swooping in from the background, striking with her beak, and attempting to grab Kirby with her talons. She can be defeated using the Recoil Stars that drop whenever she swoops near the ground or lands.
Dyna Blade is also fought in The Arena as one of the first set of randomly-fought bosses. In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Dyna Blade appears on a card in Kirby Card Swipe.

Dyna Blade is also fought in The Arena as one of the first set of randomly-fought bosses.
Boss battle
Dyna Blade is distinct as a boss in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, due primarily to her aerial attacks and her large imposing presence. She attacks primarily with her wings, talons, and beak, but also has the ability to breathe fire. If Kirby has no ability, he can fight back by inhaling the Dropped Stars that appear whenever she lands or by inhaling her fire balls and spitting these back. Only her head can take damage; hitting her anywhere else does nothing.

The following are Dyna Blade's attacks. Note that attack names are conjectural.

| Divebomb
| Dyna Blade flies in at top speed from the background, dealing damage on contact. After finishing a divebomb, Dyna Blade will fly back down from the top of the screen and land, producing Dropped Stars on impact.
The initial dive Dyna Blade does when entering the fight does not do damage.

| Dyna Blade flies slowly through the air and lands after a short time, either in a new position or just straight up and down.
Whenever she lands, two Dropped Stars appear briefly at her feet.
When Dyna Blade is at low health, she may do a variation of this move where she lands briefly, then flies upward again to transition into a Divebomb.
|-
| Talon grab
| Dyna Blade swoops in a low arc just above the ground with her talons out. If Kirby makes contact with her talons, he will be grabbed and taken into the air, where he will take continuous damage unless he breaks free (by having the player mash directions) or is automatically released after a short time.
This attack cannot be guarded against, but Kirby can crouch to avoid it.
Each talon is independently capable of grabbing, and if Kirby has a Helper with him, both he and the Helper can be grabbed by different talons.
|-

| Dyna Blade lunges her head toward Kirby to attack with her beak, which can reach him from all the way across the arena.
This attack is quite fast and can be difficult to anticipate.

| Dyna Blade opens her mouth and spits out four fireballs in Kirby's general direction. These can be inhaled, but provide no Copy Ability if swallowed.
When Dyna Blade is at low health, she will spit out six fireballs at a more rapid pace.

Dyna Blade appears in one event in City Trial mode of Kirby Air Ride. During this event, Dyna Blade will fly in and land in a pre-determined though randomly selected location within the city, with her size being comparable to the larger buildings. She will harm any racers who touch her, but can be attacked by flying into her head, which will cause her to drop items of various value, usually Patches or Food.

Dyna Blade will fly off and land in one other location given enough time. After being damaged sufficiently or a short time after her second landing, she will fly off and the event will end.

|Dyna Blade takes center stage in this episode as her return to Dream Land causes a commotion via strong gusts of wind generated by her passing. King Dedede and Escargoon trick Kirby into scaling the mountain and reaching the nest to eat her egg, which Kirby appears to fall for. When Dyna Blade returns to her nest to discover the egg broken open and her chick missing, she flies into a rage looking for the one responsible, and discovers it to be Kirby after King Dedede paints a pictograph for her depicting Kirby eating the egg. After spending a fair amount of time attacking Kirby, who tries to get away using the Warp Star, the giant bird eventually discovers that her chick is safe and sound at the beach, and that Kirby had been trying to look after it. While it is still understood that Kirby had wanted to eat the egg, but didn't because it hatched on him, Dyna Blade forgives Kirby since ultimately no harm came of the chick.

Anime
In the Kirby novel series
Dyna Blade appears in the anime, Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, as a minor character, appearing in Episodes 7, 21 and 32.
While Dyna Blade never directly appears in the Kirby novel series, she is mentioned in Kirby Meets the Squeak Squad!. She is known to be a very rare and legendary bird. Her crest feathers are treasures that many rich people have searched for, and they sell for tons of money. A very similar character called Acti Blade appears, who is capable of speech, is much less rare, and is not as burly. The theme of the two names could suggest they are derived from "dynamic" and "active".

Unlike most characters, she makes almost every appearance in 3D. Dyna Blade is shown to be a legendary bird with metal wings and feathers, which explains why "blade" is in her name. She is said to be seen every 100 years.
In Kirby Meets the Squeak Squad!, obtaining one of Dyna Blade's crest feathers is King Dedede's ultimate goal. When Kirby first tells King Dedede that they must protect a large bird's egg, he only remembers that she had "Blade" in her name. At the end of the story, when the egg is returned to Acti Blade, King Dedede requests to pluck one of her crest feathers. He celebrates, and reveals that his true motivation was to steal a Dyna Blade crest feather and sell it for loads of money. Acti Blade informs him that she is a completely different species from Dyna Blade, and that her crest feathers are worthless, which angers Dedede.

In her first appearance, King Dedede tricks Kirby into eating Dyna Blade's egg, which causes her to wreck havoc upon Cappy Town. However, it is found that Dyna Blade's baby had already hatched, and she forgives Kirby. After that she makes two cameos.
Trivia
*There was initially confusion regarding Dyna Blade's gender in English translations of the series. In the English Kirby Super Star instruction booklet, as well as in Kirby Air Ride, Dyna Blade is referred to as male. In the English dub of the anime, she is referred to as "it." She would not be concretely established as female in English until Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
*Dyna Blade's battle theme in Kirby Super Star Ultra, as well as that of Wham Bam Rock and Wham Bam Jewel, is a remix of Castle Lololo's theme from Kirby's Dream Land, which is also used as Dyna Blade's theme in Kirby Air Ride.
*In Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, using the Jet ability's Rocket Dive on Dyna Blade with proper timing can instantly defeat her if all three hits connect (rise, drop, Dropped Star rebound).
*Dyna Blade is the only final boss from Kirby Super Star to not be given a stronger variant in the remake.

This article is about the character. For the main game in Kirby Super Star and its remake, see Dyna Blade (main game).
A gigantic bird who can attack his opponent by either stretching out his neck or grabbing them with his claws.[sic]
— Description of Dyna Blade in the Enemy Characters section of the Kirby Super Star Instruction Booklet

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Dyna Blade using her talons to grab Kirby during her boss fight.

Dyna Blade is also fought in The Arena as one of the first set of randomly-fought bosses. In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Dyna Blade appears on a card in Kirby Card Swipe.

Boss battle[edit]

Dyna Blade is distinct as a boss in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, due primarily to her aerial attacks and her large imposing presence. She attacks primarily with her wings, talons, and beak, but also has the ability to breathe fire. If Kirby has no ability, he can fight back by inhaling the Dropped Stars that appear whenever she lands or by inhaling her fire balls and spitting these back. Only her head can take damage; hitting her anywhere else does nothing.

The following are Dyna Blade's attacks. Note that attack names are conjectural.

Dyna Blade's attacks
Attack Description
Divebomb
Dyna Blade flies in at top speed from the background, dealing damage on contact. After finishing a divebomb, Dyna Blade will fly back down from the top of the screen and land, producing Dropped Stars on impact.
The initial dive Dyna Blade does when entering the fight does not do damage.
Swoop
Dyna Blade flies slowly through the air and lands after a short time, either in a new position or just straight up and down.
Whenever she lands, two Dropped Stars appear briefly at her feet.
When Dyna Blade is at low health, she may do a variation of this move where she lands briefly, then flies upward again to transition into a Divebomb.
Peck
Dyna Blade lunges her head toward Kirby to attack with her beak, which can reach him from all the way across the arena.
This attack is quite fast and can be difficult to anticipate.
Fire breath
Dyna Blade opens her mouth and spits out four fireballs in Kirby's general direction. These can be inhaled, but provide no Copy Ability if swallowed.
When Dyna Blade is at low health, she will spit out six fireballs at a more rapid pace.

Kirby Air Ride[edit]

Dyna Blade in City Trial.
The mystery bird Dyna Blade appeared! Aim for his head![sic]
— Notice from the Dyna Blade event in City Trial, in Kirby Air Ride

Dyna Blade appears in one event in the City Trial mode of Kirby Air Ride. During this event, Dyna Blade will fly in and land in a predetermined, though randomly selected location within the city, with her size being comparable to the larger buildings. She will harm any racers who touch her but can be attacked by flying into her head, which will cause her to drop items of various value, usually Patches or Food. Dyna Blade will fly off and land in one other location given enough time. After being damaged sufficiently or a short time after her second landing, she will fly off and the event will end.

Notably, the in-game flavor text for Dyna Blade refers to the character using male pronouns, which is inconsistent with the rest of the series and likely a mistake.

Kirby Mass Attack[edit]

Dyna Blade's appearance in Kirby Quest in Kirby Mass Attack

Dyna Blade appears in one of Kirby Mass Attack's Sub-Games, Kirby Quest, as one of Kirby's 'Awesome' attacks. For the attack, she dives towards the enemies, hitting all of them in one big swooping motion.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

In Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Dyna Blade appears as a rare Keychain, depicting her in sprite form from Kirby Super Star. Her Keychain can be found in Fine Fields - Stage 2.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe & Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

Dyna Blade appearing in sprite form on the Dyna Blade's Nest Battle Stage in Kirby Fighters 2
Main article: Dyna Blade's Nest (Battle Stage)

In Kirby Fighters Deluxe and Kirby Fighters 2, Dyna Blade appears on a stage themed after her nest and attacks the combatant Kirbys with similar moves to her appearance in Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra. Instead of being rendered in 3D, her appearance is directly taken from her in-game sprite from Kirby Super Star Ultra.

More information about Dyna Blade's attacks can be found on the Dyna Blade's Nest (Battle Stage) page.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

In Kirby: Planet Robobot, a randomly-obtained sticker depicting Dyna Blade's head can be found, based on artwork from Kirby Super Star.

Kirby Battle Royale[edit]

This helmet is designed after the legendary bird with large white wings.
— Dyna Helmet description from Kirby Battle Royale

In Kirby Battle Royale, there is an unlockable type of headgear for Sword Kirby based on Dyna Blade. It is called the Dyna Helmet, and it costs 3000 Battle Coins.

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

Starting with version 2.0.0. onwards, Dyna Blade makes a cameo appearance in Kirby Star Allies after completing Story Mode, where she can be rarely spotted flying behind Castle Dedede in the distance in the first level: World of Peace - Dream Land.

Dyna Blade can be seen in the sky in the background on occasion from this vantage point in World of Peace - Dream Land. She appears as little more than a blurry silhouette, though her status as sole giant bird in Dream Land — and her texture in the game files — make it clear it's her.

Super Kirby Clash[edit]

In Super Kirby Clash, Dyna Blade appears as one of the stickers that can be purchased from Magolor's Shoppe, based on her artwork from Kirby Super Star Ultra. The sticker comes with the caption: *flap*.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, Dyna Blade appears on a Character Treat, using her sprite from Kirby Super Star.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Dyna Blade appears as a trophy and sticker in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Dyna Blade sticker can be equipped in The Subspace Emissary to increase launch resistance by 46 points, though it is only effective when playing as Kirby, King Dedede, or Meta Knight.

In Kirby Super Star, she's destroying Dream Land's crops, but there's apparently a perfectly good reason for this." Kirby Super Star

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

Dyna Blade appears as a ★★★★ defense-type primary spirit in this game. She can only be obtained by summoning her using cores from other bird-like spirits. She has level 1 stats of 2,325 attack and 1,902 defense, while her level 99 stats are 5,813 and 4,756 defense. She has two support slots and will grant the paired fighter increased jump height.

In days of old, there dwelt in the land of the Cappies a giant bird. It had wings that shone like the Sun, a steely beak, and claws as sharp as swords. This wondrous creature - known to all as Dyna Blade - could streak through the sky like lightning.
— Professor Curio describing Dyna Blade in Kirby's Egg-Cellent Adventure

Dyna Blade appears in the anime, Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, as a minor character, first appearing in the episode Kirby's Egg-Cellent Adventure.

Unlike most characters, she makes almost every appearance in 3D, with her specific character model being updated in later episodes. Dyna Blade is shown to be a legendary bird with metal wings and feathers, which explains why "blade" is in her name. She is said to be seen every 100 years. Unlike many other characters in the show, Dyna Blade does not have any speaking roles, though she is still fairly intelligent. She demonstrates destructive speed, and her breath weapon is a cone of gale force wind.

In her first appearance, King Dedede tricks Kirby into eating Dyna Blade's egg, which causes her to wreak havoc upon Cappy Town. However, it is found that Dyna Blade's chick had already hatched before being eaten, and she forgives Kirby. After that, she is rarely seen outside of small roles or cameo appearances, and the only other episodes which features her prominently are The Empty Nest Mess and Waste Management.

In the Kirby novel series[edit]

Trivia[edit]

 • There was initially confusion regarding Dyna Blade's gender in English translations of the series. In the English Kirby Super Star instruction booklet, as well as in Kirby Air Ride, Dyna Blade is referred to as male. In the English dub of the anime, she is referred to as "it." She would not be concretely established as female in English until Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
 • Dyna Blade's battle theme in Kirby Super Star Ultra, as well as that of Wham Bam Rock and Wham Bam Jewel, is a remix of Castle Lololo's theme from Kirby's Dream Land, which is also used as Dyna Blade's theme in Kirby Air Ride.
 • In Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, using the Jet ability's Rocket Dive on Dyna Blade with proper timing can instantly defeat her if all three hits connect (rise, drop, Dropped Star rebound).
 • Dyna Blade is the only final boss from Kirby Super Star to not be given a stronger variant in the remake.
