"Dark Nebula Battle"[derived from Japanese][1] is a boss battle theme from Kirby: Squeak Squad associated with Dark Nebula.

Composition[edit]

Kirby prepares to battle against Dark Nebula.

"Dark Nebula Battle" is a dramatic theme in A minor and 4/4. It begins with a rapid arpeggiated intro with a syncopated bassline. Elements of the intro continue playing throughout the rest of the theme. The melody comes in with delayed attack, featuring a rhythmically sharp rising fourth (similar to that of "Green Greens") and second. After it plays twice, the second string section mirrors the first part with higher-pitched falling intonations, joined by an analogous chromatic brass counterpoint in the lower registers. The second section repeats with some variations and addition of repeated trumpet notes. The track then loops from the intro.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]

In Kirby: Squeak Squad, "Dark Nebula Battle" plays during the battle against said boss. Moreover, a variation of the theme plays during the chase sequence in the boss stage. The latter features a new section at the end with alternating percussive accents and softer arpeggios.

Other appearances[edit]

The theme is featured alongside "Vs. Zero" as モノクロームブレンド (Monochrome Blend) in The Sound of Kirby Café 2.
