"Dark Manor", named "Theme from Dark Manor" in the British English version, is a theme from Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn that plays in the stage with the same name. It was composed by Tomoya Tomita.[1]
Composition[edit]
Kirby lights the way through the dark manor.
"Dark Manor" is a sombre theme in B minor and 4/4. It begins with a sinister intro full of chaotic noise from the harp, piano, bells and non-pitched percussion. The main section begins in a more organized fashion, with a basic I-V piano accompaniment with castanets. The main melody is played by a harpsichord. While starting on an offbeat, it is rhythmically and intonationally close to "Flower Fields", albeit darker due to its minor key. During the second section, the harpsichord is replaced by lead flute, bassoon and tubular bells with accompanying harp and strings. Once again, the pattern of "Flower Fields" follows, now in a variant of its second section. The third and final section combines traits from the previous, with a harpsichord and oboe playing in tandem, at first with a lyrical character akin to the second part, then concluding with a phrase similar to the first section's ending. The track loops from the piano accompaniment.
