D'Preciation Day is the 93rd episode of the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! series. In this episode, King Dedede grows jealous when he sees the Cappies holding an appreciation day for Mayor Len Blustergas, so he tries to compel his subjects to appreciate him as well. When nobody shows up, Tiff grows sorry for the King and sends Kirby along with a gift, but Kirby botches the delivery, causing Dedede to grow even angrier and declare that all appreciation days going forward are now diss-days. After the townsfolk celebrate the first one at Chef Kawasaki's expense, King Dedede and Escargoon hatch a scheme to diss Kirby next and pull a prank on him, causing him to explode when he eats watermelons filled with time bombs. To get revenge on Dedede for this, Tiff and the townsfolk hold a mock funeral to convince Dedede that his prank actually killed Kirby, forcing the King to feel remorse for what he did. Kirby then reveals he did not die after all, which surprisingly makes Dedede feel relieved despite their past history. King Dedede delivers a present to Kirby, which against Dedede's knowledge turns out to be the monster Chuckie. Kirby then makes quick work of this monster using the Parasol Copy Ability.

This episode marks the final appearance of the Parasol Copy Ability in the anime series.

Plot synopsis[edit]

Escargoon mocks Dedede for his failed attempt to get appreciation from his subjects.

The episode begins in Cappy Town, where all the Cappies have gathered to celebrate "Mayor Blustergas Appreciation Day". Tiff presents a gift to Mayor Len, which turns out to be a bright red bow-tie for him to wear. However, the party is soon cut short when King Dedede and his Waddle Dees douse the gathering, thinking it yet again to be a planned uprising to overthrow him. Tiff and the others scold Dedede for his rash behavior, telling him that everyone in town gets an appreciation day. When King Dedede asks when his is, the town glares at him, as they deem him unworthy of the honor. Swearing to get back at them, King Dedede rushes off to plan a new scheme. Back at the castle, he tries to determine if even a single person appreciates him, but none of his supposed loyal subject are willing to entertain a lie that they do. Escargoon in turn rubs King Dedede's universal dislike in his face when even he gets a present from his mother. Later on, a Channel DDD broadcast starts and King Dedede announces the start of "D'Preciation Day", demanding his subjects to give him gifts and pay a visit to the castle. King Dedede sets up festivities and awaits his subjects in his throne room, but nobody shows up and Escargoon continues to mock him for his unpopularity. Seeing this, Tiff for the first time in her life feels sorry for the King, and plans to get him something at least.

Tiff talks it over with Tuff and Kirby, and decides that Dedede might be influenced to change for the better if Kirby gave him a gift. A short time later, Kirby walks down the red carpet with a present for the King, and receives adulation from the Waddle Dees. When King Dedede opens the gift, he sees a watermelon inside, but closer examination reveals it is just an empty shell, as Kirby had already eaten the contents. Tiff bemoans Kirby's gluttony as Tuff laughs at this unintended prank on the King. To get revenge for this further insult, King Dedede announces to everyone that from now on, all appreciation days are now disdain days, and anyone who has the official Disdain Flag placed on their house has to endure twenty-four hours of disrespect. The next morning, Chef Kawasaki's appreciation day is replaced with a disdain day, and the Cappies decide to go along with it in order to punish the chef for his years of bad cooking. They proceed to mock him by raising his hopes up for some customers only to throw pies at his face. Tiff berates the crowd for going along with this, but King Dedede and Escargoon brush her off as they plan on dissing Kirby next.

Kirby rockets off after eating the watermelons stuffed with time bombs.

Soon, King Dedede and Escargoon get a hold of Kirby by luring him out with a watermelon. They set up a cart full of watermelon shells with time bombs inside to get revenge on the pink puffball, but accidentally get themselves stuck in the cart as well. When Kirby arrives, they try to get him to wait until they have freed themselves from the cart, but Tiff and Tuff show up to exacerbate matters. Kirby impatiently hops onto the cart, causing it to go careening down the cliff with King Dedede and Escargoon still inside. Despite this setback, King Dedede and Escargoon are still able to get Kirby to eat all the watermelons, and he ends up rocketing away when they all detonate inside his belly. Kirby survives this incident, but he is blackened from the explosion, and Tiff and Tuff vow to get revenge on Dedede. Meanwhile, King Dedede returns to the castle gloating over his prank, and decides to contact Night Mare Enterprises to get Kirby a gift to soften the incident. Before anything arrives, however, a letter reaches the castle from Tiff, which informs King Dedede and Escargoon that Kirby has died, and that she is inviting them to his funeral to pay their last respects. Realizing the connection to the incident from earlier, King Dedede and Escargoon rush off in the Royal Racecar and find Tiff and the Cappies carrying a small pink coffin. They inform King Dedede that Kirby died due to the explosive watermelons from earlier, and that they had only manage to recover some of him for the burial.

Kirby defeats Chuckie using the Parasol ability.

Feeling genuinely sorry for what he did, King Dedede and Escargoon weep at Kirby's grave, and leave him an unadulterated watermelon. Tiff then gets Dedede to promise to never pull pranks on his subjects again. However, Kirby hops out of the grave in order to eat the watermelon left for him, blowing the ruse. Escargoon does the expected thing and berates the crowd for tricking him and Dedede again, but King Dedede is relieved to see that Kirby is okay, admitting in his own twisted way that he cares about the pink puffball. At that moment, the gift from Night Mare Enterprises arrives and Captain Waddle Doo delivers it. Kirby opens up the present to reveal the monster Chuckie. Chuckie proceeds to attack Kirby by pouncing on him with its box and then hitting him repeatedly with its head. Kirby tries to inhale it, but Chuckie just hides back in its box, preventing this. Instead, Kirby swallows Buttercup's umbrella and gains the Parasol Copy Ability. With this ability, Kirby makes short work of Chuckie by first spinning it around with the Circus Throw technique, then hitting it with an upward Parasol Drill to defeat it. As the townsfolk celebrate Kirby's victory, one more card arrives for King Dedede, making him hopeful that somebody appreciates him, but it just turns out to be the bill for the monster he ordered. The episode ends as King Dedede sulks and Kirby is hoisted into the air.
