Crack the earth with a whack!
— Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

Crackity Hack is one of the Sub-Games available for immediate play in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. This sub-game at first seems a lot like Megaton Punch; however the powering up steps are rather different. Crackity Hack pits four Kirbys (pink, yellow, red, green) against one another in a rock breaking contest. The winner is determined by the depth of the crack through the ground.

Crackity Hack returns in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, where Bandana Waddle Dee, King Dedede, and Meta Knight can now be chosen as contestants, and Red Kirby is replaced with Blue. It is available to play in Merry Magoland or the Lor Starcutter, though in the Lor, it needs to be unlocked by collecting 80 Energy Spheres.

GameplayEdit

Crackity Hack gameplay in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

A series of four bar meters will rise, reach the top, then fall. The objective is to press the A button at (or as close as possible to) the top to build up strength. The contestants will then jump up and prepare to punch. While in the air, a pair of crosshairs, one fixed and one falling, will line up momentarily. The objective of this step is to press the A button while the two are aligned. Once this step is complete, the contestants will fall and strike the boulder.

The following animation will seem like a race of the cracks. The weakest hit will travel the least and the strongest will go the furthest. If 999.00 (999.99 in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe) is reached, the other side of the planet can be seen as the crack breaks through, viewed upside-down. In Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, this causes a flood of water to spout beneath a swimming Waddle Dee, much to their surprise.

There are three levels of difficulty to this subgame. Higher difficulties cause the bars and crosshairs to move faster, and also adds more bars to fill in sequence. CPU opponents are also more precise on higher difficulties.

Tutorial transcript (Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe)Edit

  • "Press A/B to stop the gauge. Try to stop it at the highest point possible! (You can also play using a Joy-Con and motion controls.)"
  • "When the markers overlap, press A/B to release a rock-splitting crackity hack!"
  • "Do your best to split the ground apart and reach the deepest depths of Planet Popstar!"

TriviaEdit

  • The official Japanese website for Kirby & The Amazing Mirror has a wallpaper based on Crackity Hack. This is also the case with its other two Sub-Games, Kirby Wave Ride and Speed Eaters.
  • The rocks to be broken in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe change depending on the level of difficulty, with Level 3 the rocks appearing to reference Popstar by having golden coloring and two sparkling rings orbiting them. Furthermore, this may also be a reference to Megaton Punch, another game where Kirby is able to crack the ground by punching with great force.
  • If the player refuses or misses the crosshair entirely in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, their character will flop onto the ground upon hitting the rock, with the rock being unscathed.
