Cotta is an enemy which made its first appearance in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. Being the most basic enemy in the game, it wanders around aimlessly or stands still and can be easily defeated by Kirby's Touch Dash or Waddle Dee's spear. When defeated, Cotta confers 100 points and 3 Point Stars onto the player.
Cotta can be found in a variety of situations throughout Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. In addition to their usual waddling, they can be seen hanging from balloons (sometimes waving at Kirby while doing so) and are frequently found in areas out of reach. They are also often used as fodder to introduce certain stage hazards, with an example being the Cotta in The Long-Lost Ruins which gets flattened by a falling wall.
Its name is an abbreviation of "terracotta", a type of fired clay used for ceramics.

Due to being the basic enemy of Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, there are several different variations of Cotta that can be found in the game, as follows:
- Cannon Cotta - a Cotta shaped into a cannon, which acts like Shotzo, but can be defeated.
- Cotta General - a large Cotta Knight who acts as a mid-boss of sorts.
- Cotta Knight - a tougher variant of Cotta who can take more hits.
- Drill Cotta - a Cotta with a drill bit for feet that can bore through soft ground.
- Mecha Cotta - a large Cotta robot that takes many hits to defeat.
- Spear Cotta - a Cotta which carries a spear, analogous to Spear Waddle Dee in other games.
- Spear Cotta Knight - a Cotta Knight who carries a spear.
